I want to get into JRPGs but to be honest don't have a first clue where to start... What gave me this idea is getting my PSP working again which is meant to be one of the best consoles for JRPGS, so I might get FF1 for it... or should I get the remakes on the DS or a completely different series?
How bout FF7? It's an obvious one, but it's pretty easy and has everything you expect from a JRPG, you can download it on PSP
Monster Hunter.
FFX

Hack your PSP, put a SNES emulator on it and play Secret of Mana. :D
Or are you specifically talking about turn based JRPGs?
Try with Septerra Core. It's on GOG,so it's on hand :P
Any game from the Shin Megami Tensei series.
Pretty much any snes jrpg is good for getting into the genre

It's pretty good but those fights are pretty weird thing. Well I mean if I have played too much Final Fantasy.
The Suikoden series is also excellent.

If you have a ps2 or a ps3 capable of playing ps1 games, Star Ocean: The Second Story, is worth a play through.

Elmofongo: Monster Hunter.
Love that series! :D Have 1,2 and tri for wii but they're more action games than RPGS.

Ok people seem to think I've only a PSP so I'll name out consoles. PC (obviously) PSP, Xbox 360, DS, PS1 (The effort of setting it up i'd rather download from PSN for PSP) and Wii (Basically all Nintendo consoles thanks to VC and Gamecube backward compatibility). Basically all the current gen except for PS3 and no next gen. I'd rather not use ROMs and hacking btw.

Hence it is called an Action RPG.

Never thought of it as RPG as there's no level-up system usually in RPGs but I suppose with the armour and weapon stats it could be considered one.
