I have doubts about this too. That's why I pulled my pledge. Even if in the remote chance it does get made, it may turn out to be crap.

well this guy from the escapist by the user name Dexter111 made me worried about this kickstarter read this from this dexter111 guy:

Elmofongo, I agree that this guy may be too naive to succeed. Let's hope for the best. (I pledged just $1 as a sign of general support, so I won't get anything either way.)

I'd suggest that you pledge something and discuss that on the Kickstarter comments. Frankly from my POV the web version is close enough, and at $9 I think it's very good value.

lowyhong: Because the list is growing, I'm not going to randomly add any project that comes along. If I don't add it to the list, but you really want it in there, you'll have to explain why the project should be in there. I check the thread (more) often (than I think I will), so I rarely forget to add a good project into the list.
What's the criteria for not adding a project? It's hard to argue if a project should be on the list if I can't tell what normally makes it and what doesn't.

Mostly if it's interesting, or I see that it has some sort of appeal. Weeaboo games are a dime a dozen, and most have average or mediocre art, so unless it's something out of the ordinary or has potential, like Kitaru, I won't post them. Obvious scams also won't make it.

I'll usually post it anyway if you can explain why the project's worth looking at, even if it only appeals to a niche crowd.

Examples of what won't go on to the list:

No disrespect intended for not including the Steampunk Holmes project. I can tolerate and even appreciate pastiches, but I don't care for popular characters rewritten by other authors in alternate universes, especially characters that I like.

so how long those kickstarters make game? Years? many years?

It sucks for the buyers if a project doesn't deliver at all. OTOH, there is always a risk involved. That's how KS is, caveat emptor. It is up to the backer to decide whether the risk is worth taking.

gameon: Perhaps it would be worth posting which projects to avoid also?
Oh come on. I think the GOG community is smart enough to make informed decisions ;)

It depends. Certain games are going to take longer to make. Other games will have really short development cycles. It's just like any other game you would buy.

gameon: I'm sure others do. But if theres anyone else like me, i could potentially add to a project "for a laugh". Like picking a horse with low odds, it might become a winner!

I need serious convincing that something is so terrible, that i shouldn't help it out.
Well you can always start a new thread. I prefer not to clutter up the OP. Sorry!

SirPrimalform: So basically it's not the genre they dislike, they're just racist?

Starmaker: Weeaboo isn't a race.
Never said anything of the sort. What you said implied they didn't like games made by Japanese people, but were fine with the same kind of games made by Westerners.

"JRPG" is a distinctive style of RPG, much like a platformer is a particular style of arcade. While this style is particularly popular with Japanese devs, there's no reason Westerners can't make a "JRPG".

However, when Western people do make such a game, they are often "inspired" by particular games so much that in addition to imitating the mechanics, they produce a twice-digested sorry pile of misunderstanding. I bet you a hundred bucks that if someone made a random selection of undoctored backstory synopsises only from various RPGs made and proposed by Westerners, I'll easily tell which ones are, or are meant to be, "JRPGs".

This game, however, is very in-your-face about NOT having any crystal maiden regurgitated wtf in it. And that's good.
Is anyone backing Best Friends Forever? This looks like it may actually turn out to be a good movie. 11 hours to go.
Here's one for the Dr. McNinja fans...

I am considering now that you have brought it to my attention. But the lack of information on the shipping cost (From what I can see.) is annoying me. Are they going to cover it themselves or have they just not thought of it?

Usually what they forget to think of, is getting the word out.
