Is the webcomic supposed to be a hit?

-edit- Whoa yeah it does seem quite popular.

Azarr: I am considering now that you have brought it to my attention. But the lack of information on the shipping cost (From what I can see.) is annoying me. Are they going to cover it themselves or have they just not thought of it?

Usually what they forget to think of, is getting the word out.
Good question. I sent them a PM.

lowyhong: Is anyone backing Best Friends Forever? This looks like it may actually turn out to be a good movie. 11 hours to go.

Right, just got a response. $10.

And I have pledged. Too bad there's quite a few other awesome projects, I would have gone a tier higher, but yeah.
Added Ace of Spies, a spy-theme card game. Looks promising, and the people on BGG are all over this too.

Rock Paper Shotgun just posted an article about the kickstarter dilemma.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/23/the-kickstarter-dilemma/

While I can see where they are coming from, I also think they are over thinking things. It's not like they haven't posted articles about games in development (with little to actually go on) before kickstarter came around.

They should look at a game as a game before they look at it as a kickstarter project. At least that's how I personally would feel was a responsible way to conduct myself it I was a games reporter. It wouldn't be my concern how intelligently people spend their money, I'm not their financier. It seems in the article that they are admitting the RPS audience are mindless sheep who'll follow whatever they say...

Eeehhhh yeah. I read that article too, and I agree with your assessment.

That seems about accurate for their core audience, yeah, but then the same can be said for most review sites.

I ended up throwing down for Serpents Tongue, I just can't pass up the shinies. Worst case scenario, I wind up with a kind of cool collector's item to sit on a shelf near my gaming things.

But, as long as I find it fun, I can probably talk a friend or two into playing with me. Which wouldn't have been the case with MTG had that one flopped.

This one is my last one though, there's just too many of them and not enough money.

This is my problem too. I ended up passing on Best Friends Forever as I also wanted to back Zombicide and have 4-5 other projects starred that look interesting. In some ways I wish double fine hadn't introduced me to Kickstarter!

Things like Dome http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightytreehouse/dome?ref=activity and Ogre http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/847271320/ogre-designers-edition?ref=activity are v interesting, though Ogre is out ATM as doesn't ship internationally.

I couldn't resist backing Chris Huelsbeck's project for a limited edition, 3 CD, Turrican music project http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chris-huelsbeck/turrican-soundtrack-anthology-by-chris-huelsbeck

It's kind of addictive.

But, this will be the last one I buy into until I get back to the US. One of the problems I have is that I don't have any way of paying directly for any of these. I have plenty of money as the cost of living here is basically nothing, but it costs me something like $40 to do a transfer back to the US, after going through the hassle of converting my RMB into USD.

But, I've funded 5 really good projects and the others I can buy into when they're completed.

Apart from reading responses directed to me, I'm probably not even going to come back into this thread again.

I hear the Bank of China has been doing pretty well. Borrowing sector seems to be flourishing. :3

Most banks here in China are essentially owned and operated by the government under different names.

The challenge is doing the paperwork to demonstrate to the government that you've paid the relevant taxes and then getting the money wired is also problematic as there are caps involved. I literally pay less than $30 in living expenses here, but getting the money back home is kind of tricky and expensive.

I suppose I could get a CC here, but I'm not sure what I would have to do and if that's a possibility for foreigners that are temporarily residing here.
You are the Plague in this one although it doesn't look like it's gonna make it...

lowyhong: No disrespect intended for not including the Steampunk Holmes project. I can tolerate and even appreciate pastiches, but I don't care for popular characters rewritten by other authors in alternate universes, especially characters that I like. The acting isn't very good either.
What I understand from this is that the list is basically tailored to your taste. I guess that's natural because you're the one maintaining it, but I still think it's a pity. Personally I love it when people play in other writers' back yards, and I've done it myself. Cyborg Watson sounds cool to me.

Interesting article - but quite revealing to see repeated comments (linking 6 times - verging on spamming IMHO) by mercenary-games on their project Vigrior (discussed previously in this thread).

Legends of Eisenwald looks interesting, but I'd take issue with their statement "Turn based tactical battles where we managed to get rid of the main enemy of turn based battles – boredom." In my experience, boredom in such games tends to occur at strategic level (not battles) due to (a) your armies having nothing to do (no enemies in sight) or (b) you're in a certain win/lose position but have to continue playing to reach a conclusion rather than being able to finish the game there and then, or (c) the game has lots of micro-management.
