AstralWanderer: I can't see any reason (aside from avoiding processing fees) not to provide an Amazon payments option for UK projects
avatar
ET3D: I can see a big reason (apart from Amazon UK perhaps not supporting this the way the US one does, which I'm not sure about). They probably want to open Kickstarter to more countries in the future. They can't count on Amazon providing the service for every country, so they would eventually have to create their own system. Might as well do it now, instead of having another intermediate step.

Also using Amazon is a liability. If the Amazon service fails (which happened a few days ago), Kickstarter can do nothing about it. If pledges don't go through because of Amazon's system, again, Kickstarter is helpless. I'm sure that Kickstarter would rather have its own system over which it has more control. (And of course it could cut itself a larger cut, and optionally give project creators a larger cut.)
Would it not use Amazon.co.uk then if the .com isn't supported or something like that.

The question is: Will it be as good as Curiosity?
I'm not going to dismiss it entirely, despite all the recent nonsense from Peter Molyneux. But. It's gotta be singleplayer. Offline singleplayer. I'm not going to help fund the annoying "everything's got to be multiplayer/social now"-trend.

Yes, that's the reason I did not go straight in also - "It’s a multiplayer power-struggle the way it should be."

AstralWanderer: Hmm...I've got severe reservations giving CC details direct to Kickstarter also (rather than via Amazon who do have a track record of sorts and are big enough not to be subject to the "Verified by Visa" liability-shift). I can't see any reason (aside from avoiding processing fees) not to provide an Amazon payments option for UK projects so I'll likely be avoiding UK projects for now.

nijuu: WHy did they make the change? Makes me think twice about pledging UK based projects
Did raise this with Kickstarter and received the following response:

"Thanks for writing in and I'm sorry about the inconvenience of not being able to use Amazon Payments for UK projects. As I'm sure you're aware, the Kickstarter website is constantly evolving. User feedback is what helps makes our site better and we greatly appreciate it. I'll pass it along!"

So I guess if enough people request this (via the "Contact" link at the bottom of each KS page) they'll add it in.

ET3D: I can see a big reason...
Aside from avoiding Amazon's fees (some saving there, but they still have to pay credit-card processing fees - typically 3-4%) none of that really applies to offering Amazon Payments as an option.

To be fair, a similar argument could apply to GOG also, however my current approach is to limit online transactions to a few sites only, making it easier to check CC statements later on (as well as lessening the chance of fraud due to website compromise). KS' online security is an unknown quantity at this stage and given the amount I've been pledging lately, it's a big-ticket item on my statements.

amok: Legend of Dungeon is now up.

I am not to found of the whole muliplayer deal, but might get in $20 anyway.

edit:

hmm, there is an online demo, whups -seems to work. http://robotloveskitty.com/LoD/Demo.html
Looked cool, but the limited and sold out $20 tier and no intention of making additional spots available killed my interest.

Sorry to hear it's not working out :( It seems like it's mostly bad luck here...
Hey would you all prefer to see the main list sorted out according to ending date or by alphabetical order?
