Sci-Fi: Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, and War of the Worlds and District 9

Crime: Dog Day Afternoon, Goodfellas, Casino, Resevoir Dogs, Scarface, Carlito's Way, and Pulp Fiction and Road to Perdition and The Departed.

Thriller: No Country for Old Men (It was more thriller than crime for me) and Phone Booth

Historical War: Braveheart and Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut.

Modern-ish War: Letters From Iwo Jima, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now

Drama: There Will Be Blood, Raging Bull, The Wolf of Wall Street, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Godfather 1 and 2, The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, And Cast Away?

Superhero: V for Vendetta, Watchmen

Horror: Tie between Exoricst and Women in Black

Musical: Tie between An American in Paris and West Side Story

Animated: American Pop and Fantasia

Comady: Jackass Number Two

Acttion/adventure: Lord of the Rings Trilogy and King Kong

The Exorcist is a horror film? I always considered it a comedy.

When I first saw Freddy vs. Jason I actually thought it was a comedy.(and I am still not sure if it actually is)

For the most part it's impossible to point at one movie and say: "it is my favorite ever!" on any genre.

I suppose the best I can do is Kung Pow: Enter the Fist as my favorite comedy.

Sci-Fi: it would be the Aliens trilogy ... but it's hard to tell.

Crime: Snatch

Thriller: Seven

War: Grave of the Fireflies (I consider it a war movie before being animated)

Drama: Memento

Superhero: batman, not the kitsch ones.

Horror: (void)

Musical: thing with Edward Norton ... it's the only I saw through the end and enjoyed so ....

Animated: Wall E was fun

AND :

Western : The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Peplum : I liked the old Spartacus ( Ben Hur too ... but not Charlton Heston )

Pirates : (all the Burt Lancaster movies)

Action : Die Hard 1

I saw that movie in the theatre and I own it on DVD. Pretty sure it's a comedy. :D

I hate sorting favorite films by genre, so I'll just mention Spellbound. Amazing film.

Where's "comedy"? I'll add it as the first on the list:

Comedy: <span class="bold">Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid</span>
- Pure Steve Martin goodness long before he started acting as a big-family daddy in all his movies.

Sci-Fi: <span class="bold">RoboCop</span>
- I presume it counts as scifi?
- What the heck, now I found out there is <span class="bold">a remake</span> in the making too? I'm 95% sure it isn't as good as the original, since the sequels sucked too. But maybe the visual effects kick ass.

Crime: <span class="bold">The Usual Suspects</span>
- Keyser Soze is so bad ass.

Thriller: <span class="bold">Memento</span>
- Maybe closer to drama, but...

War: <span class="bold">Alexander</span>
- I hope non-WW2 or non-Vietnam movies count too; I love how some combat scenes reminded of playing some good RTS game, Age of Empires or Total War series.

Drama: <span class="bold">Jacob's Ladder</span>

Superhero: A tie between <span class="bold">Kick-Ass</span> and <span class="bold">Scott Pilgrim vs. the World</span>
- For some reason both appeared the same year (2010). I thought I was completely jaded by movies, but somehow these two felt like a breath of fresh air, making me feel young again (when it comes to getting excited about movies).
- I didn't see these movies until recently, when they happened to come from TV. I didn't even know about the Pilgrim movie before, I would have thought it was a huge success and all internet was gaa gaa over it back in 2010?
- I generally dislike the common superhero movies, like Batmans, Supermans,Spidermans etc.

Horror: <span class="bold">Hellbound: Hellraiser 2</span>
- I adore the visuals and feeling in this movie, Pinhead <3 foreva

Musical: <span class="bold">Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny</span>

Animated: <span class="bold">Monsters, Inc.</span>
- Makes a grown man cry with joy and sorrow at the same time.

- I'm surprised how much I liked this brainless action movie. I wasn't expecting anything from it.
