Nothing for me will ever equal the magic that was living in the virtual world of EverQuest with the many people I spent good times with there. Nothing else even comes close. The vast world to explore was amazing. The lore of the world was rich and interesting. Grouping with friends and making new ones doing it was so much fun. Doing our epic quests truly was an epic experience as was raiding with over 50 people working together in challenging, highly entertaining content. Soloing at times was a real adventure. Death had consequences and in the early days was truly to be feared depending on where it might befall you. There was a palpable sense of tension venturing out into certain places. The community for the most part was helpful and friendly. It was truly an immersive world full of fun and excitement and camaraderie. It really was magic.

Nothing has ever recaptured the wonder that was playing EverQuest even though I've played and enjoyed many MMOs over the years. I will have fond memories of my time spent in EQ for the rest of my days.

And I would acknowledge that Everquest is the first True 3D open world game. Arena and Daggerfall does not count because there were still using "Doom" like graphics and sprites. Though I have it but decided to play it last after the other RPGs I have, Everquest is a technical achievement.

You just can't get over to start a thread with an actual opinion, don't you? :p

Best Community: Everquest

Best PVE: Guild Wars 2

Best PVP: Dark Age of Camelot pre-New Frontier

Most innovative: Everquest / Ultima Online in the beginning, Guild Wars 2 now

Best additional / unique feature ingame: LotRO music system / Warhammer Online Tome of Knowledge

Best one overall: Guild Wars 2

Siannah: Best Combat: LotRO Warden
I took 6 months off and now wardens hurt my brain.

Plus that asshole that revamped 'em locked multiple skills I had in my rotation behind the fucking Isengard expansion. Relearning a mastery rotation is a giant pain in the ass!

Anyways, I play a ranger in EverQuest (still) so it won't be hard to see where my preference lies.

EverQuest 4 lyfe

Siannah: Warhammer Online Tome of Knowledge
Glad someone else loved this as much as I did.
Lineage II - Hands Down for me
I've tried a few, mostly the free games or free trials, but the only one that ever really hooked me is Guild Wars. So much to do, and while it can be repetitive (especially when going for titles), I just love it. The mechanics are very smooth and pretty much spoiled me when it comes to other games (for example, movement - if a game only gives me 90 degree options for changing directions, I hate it).

To me, it just works perfectly - I wish there were other genre games that would take that approach.
The only one I liked enough to play to the level cap was WoW, but then again I have only tried 4-5 total.
Bump
Eve Online by far, for me. I'm not a power gamer and that game allows for casual play more than any other MMO I've played. Casual play that sees consistent gains. I've tried quite a few, some for as much as 6 months, but nothing hooked me like Eve.
