tinyE: Where does the Wizard of Oz fit in here? It's both.
And what about Schindler's List? Does the one scene with the girl in the red coat count as being in color?
I think the majority of The Wizard of Oz was in color. Heck, IIRC, the rest wasn't even technically black and white; it was sepiatone. And what about Schindler's List? Does the one scene with the girl in the red coat count as being in color?
I think Schindler's would qualify. Truth be told, color was incorporated into very old black and white movies before true color films were even available, although it was ridiculously expensive. DeMille's King Of Kings incorporated a limited color scene (2 color?) for his silent film King Of Kings in 1927 (yeah, yeah, I took some film classes in college). I think most people would still be comfortable calling it a black and white regardless.
yyahoo: {shrug} I own it on DVD (I'm only missing a few Hitchcock movies in my collection - still haven't bought the Criterion releases of The Lady Vanishes or 39 Steps, they're always so darn expensive). It's definitely in color. I just checked IMDB, and it states that it was originally in color (Technicolor).
Licurg: Then why do I remember it as a black-and-white movie ? :/ On-topic - Why the hell am I the only one to post a Cagney movie ? What the hell is wrong with you people ? :/
