DaCostaBR: I'm gonna have to give up and ask for a tip. I'm the kind of guy who says he likes anime but watches only two shows a year and only after I got validation from ten different sources that it is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm kinda in the same boat with tv shows as well.

Random tips:
-The storyline is sad and almost depressing, show it to people who think anime is about happy kids stuff and super heroes. I did like it though.
-Has lots of "objectionable content" and is pretty "adult", but totally not hentai or splatter anime.
-Genre is something on the lines of drama, post-apocalyptic, war, science fiction, adventure.
Have you seen ¨Kimi ga Nozomu Eien¨ ?
The kind of anime that I´d expect maybe an usual JK story and before I knew it, it turned upside down like that.

LoboBlanco: Well, sometimes it happens to me that I decide to watch some not expecting much and end being pleasantly surprised. But with time I think I have developed a ¨third eye¨ for my picks ;P
avatar
DaCostaBR: Yeah, my policy has been biting me in the ass lately, creates unreasonable expectations and all. Plus, my favorite anime, the one I created this topic on, I picked completely at random.

But there's so many things to watch and so little time, what can I do? I'm sure you understand having to put a few filters on. Like my other one that says I never watch an anime with more than 26 episodes, with very few exceptions.
Yes, I do that with games, but I guess it´s not working, my list keeps growing, so I´m just puting the ones I relly want to play in the top :P, so many things to do, so little time.

granny: Boom, baby!

Okay... see attached :-)
Spriggan.

Speaking of animated films, I've only watched two of Miyazaki's films: the Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro one, which I hated, and Princess Mononoke which was pretty damn good. So far it's even so I've been thinking of trying another one and could use a recommendation. I've been leaning towards maybe Spirited Away or Porco Rosso.

Four part mini series. Not to be mixed with the actual anime series, which is very different.

Might even call that my favorite.

Not a Miyazaki movie but okay.

I never liked Samurai X as a kid but figured I could give it another chance now that I'm older, this mini series could come in handy more so than the long running show for that.

aw, sorry - missed the miyazaki part :)

Anyways, my old classmate and roommate BOTH fell asleep when we were watching Kenshin some 7 years ago.

bad-bad people they were :p Anyways, i liked to story, the characters and general atmosphere - some are ofcourse only looking for the action and then you wont be able to really enjoy it.

Not sure on the first but the second is Maison Ikkoku. Takahashi's art is a dead giveaway.

Yep, one thing that caught me straight away from that anime was not the samurai fights but the way they showed Japan´s history throughout, like the first steam train, the religious battles, the first iron clads, the Meiji Restoration era, and so on and so forth.
And story wise, the awesome twists and turns it had, the characters, and the way Makoto Shishio had a deep strategic thinking.
