By itself or in menudo? Because my mom makes awesome menudo.

Myself? Hmmm.... I once ate tofu by itself, pure texture no flavor, and what a disgusting texture it was. I'm also no fan of the durian. Liver is okay until the aftertaste kicks in the texture is odd as well.

Other than that I can't remember anything that really sticks out.

In Thailand, some innards/bowels of a pig, cooked. Chewing it felt like trying to eat an used condom, I presume. I rejected eating some fried insects or maggots, though.

Another time, also in Thailand, I was very hungry and knew I had no food, so late in the evening we decided to buy some ready-made food from a street kitchen. It seemed it was the last scraps of something that had been there for the whole day, but I was hungry.

At the motel, I tasted a bit of it, and threw it to trashcan. Obviously it was rancid already. Fortunately I had some spare chocolate bar so I had something to eat.

You should try some roasted insects, honey covered or chocolate coated crickets etc. I dared it once and to be honest I thought it was pretty good.

I love durian! Albeit sometimes I get sick of it, if I eat it daily. Too much is too much.

As for tofu, I used to hate it (same as you, no taste, unpleasant texture). But some time my gf fried slices of tofu in oil, and gave them some extra flavor, and they were actually pretty good! Almost like some kind of semi-crispy snacks, almost.

I've seen two kinds of tofu though (I think they are both called that?), the jelly-like which you could eat with a spoon, and the firm one which feels almost like cheese. I think the fried tofu slices were made of the latter, the firm tofu.

I love soft tofu, the person just needs to know what sauce to cook it in. Or fried ones.

Anyway, one of the worst things I've tasted is Chocolate Cheese.

And this is why I carry a Bullet Meal sandwich or two with me when I know other sustenance may be in short supply. Their taste isn't brilliant either, and the mouthfeel is kind of beany, but they're alright by my standards which, admittedly, aren't terribly high.

As for the worst stuff I've had to eat. military food. Anything prepared in a field kitchen never tastes good, and it gets worse if all you have to eat it from is this funny but useless little thing and your mess kit, already contaminated by leftovers of whatever you have been eating for the past few days, now frozen solid on the sides and bottom.

I remember some terrible terrible cold minced meat that some people seem to be fond of. Childhood trauma.

Another is chocolate waffle biscuit from a bag where a can of olives had broken open. Not the best flavour marriage you could try.

And lately, the most hilariously bad crepe I ever ate. Each bite made me laugh. It was like dried paper, with some ash inside. The waitress was very nice and I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth when she came asking me if it was fine. The poor girl was horrified by my apparently unexpected facial expression, as I was struggling to find the words. She thought very hard at any potential problem for a moment, and then hopefully asked if I was finding it too expensive, and proceeded to explain to me that all the shops around were more expensive. I just told her that the price was fine. And I changed the subject.

But I'll never forget this crepe. It was candid camera material.

Never eaten this but it would be a difficult meal IMHO. Odori-Don

Paella.

I was in Spain, and wanted to eat something Spanish. I recognised the name, but didn't know what it contained (nor could I read the menu, only one in the family of five could so translating for everyone was a bit much). And I've never liked shellfish, before or since (I can stomach instant noodles with shrimp flavour, but not much more than that - even just the smell at parties with lots of shrimp, prawn and crayfish is almost enough to make me gag).

Can't remember, this was some ten to fifteen years ago.

I'm not saying the food was bad, for all I know it may have been excellently done. I couldn't eat much of it though, picking out some rice and legumes that didn't taste too much like the damned shellfish.

On another note though (deviating from the topic title), a Vietnamese place that opened in my town a couple years back has some great fresh spring rolls - I didn't read the menu fully, so I didn't notice that it said "shrimp" and was thus surprised that the same stick out at either end of the rolls, but since I had ordered the dish I ate it and didn't even notice the shrimp taste. Thus, that's pretty much the only shellfish-containing dish I can eat happily.

Foie gras doesn't taste much of anything.

Well, it isn't really food, but the worst thing I've ever eaten was the liquid stuff inside a gel cap. It was one of those gels that you can take to get rid of a cold. Only problem was, I can't swallow pills, so my dad said that since the liquid stuff on the inside is what actually contains the medicine, I could try squeezing it out onto some bread and eating it. Well let me tell you, there is a reason that liquid is encased in a thick layer of gel stuff. That stuff was as bitter as the devil's heart. My face nearly imploded, and only a tiny bit of the stuff touched my tongue. Needless to say, I just let the cold go away on its own.

When I was a kid, I ate a dog biscuit. If you want to count that. Otherwise, my first attempts at cooking with tofu (the recipe apparently assumed I'd know to press it without being told; I didn't) were pretty sorry affairs, and put me off the stuff for a while, although now I eat some sort of tofu dish weekly.
