Dischord: No need for sorry at all, just a testament to the character of many users here.

Anyone could have grabbed, none did (believing I made a mistake and was intended elsewhere,) my salute!

Triock, please enjoy.
Aye, a cool forum to be sure, anyway, +1 for the giveaway :)

Yeah, was waiting couple of minutes before redeeming to be sure it's not mistake. Thanks again.

Dancers always survive, both in the literal and figurative sense!

I can't count myself as a member of this group, though, as I've suffered too many icy stares after declining an offer to dance, with the excuse that I don't.

Can move very gracefully, but in another realm not well suited to the dance floor. Adapted in time, one way, but perhaps not quite in time, in another. :-)

Don't worry, that's what Phil Collins used to say as well. And look at him now!

There's hope for you yet.

Thank you, maybe it is as my father used to say: Those that live in hope, don't die in despair!

He probably read that somewhere, but drifts into my mind from time to time :-)
I read the first page, but not the second and third, so if this has already been said, sorry.

But Gothic 2 has built in gamepad support whereas Gothic 1 does not. That may be something to consider if you're like me and just don't ever use the keyboard when WSAD movement is concerned.

I played both with a gamepad, but Gothic 1 required me to use the gamepad's software to mimic keyboard keys, whereas Gothic 2 supports a gamepad and merely requires you to go into the in-game options screen and assign keys to your gamepad.
All three of the Gothic games can be a bit tough to get into, but are also all very rewarding if you take the time to do so. Gothic 3 is probably the easiest to initially get into, although the combat mechanics can remain somewhat frustrating throughout the entire game (Gothic 1 and 2 can be more frustrating initially, but that frustration tends to drop off almost completely after a couple of hours). Both Gothic 1 and 2 can be more frustrating initially because the controls are a bit... unconventional; however, if you're able to put up with the initial frustration they actually start feeling pretty natural after a couple of hours. Gothic 2 (with the expansion) is the toughest of the Gothic games, so I wouldn't recommend starting with it- much better to get used to the gameplay with Gothic 1 before tackling G2, although while it's the toughest Gothic 2 is also arguably the best of the series, so it's really worth playing, just not the best to start with.

Ultimately, I'd recommend either starting at the beginning with Gothic 1 if you plan on playing the entire series, or starting with Gothic 3 if you're not sure whether you'll be into the series enough to play all of the games.

DaCostaBR: I figure I'll give it a shot at the series. So which one is the best? And which is the most friendly? Remember, Steam has it's winter sale in a couple of weeks so Gothic 1 and 4 are not out of the picture if you want to recommend one of those.
Gothic 2.
Gothic one is pretty cool.. I like the factions you get to choose.. and the Magic dome idea is pretty cool.

If you're a longtime gamer I'd say Gothic itself. Yeah the control scheme sucks horrid ass, but in many ways it is the best game of the series.

I would never recommend the first one to anyone who doesn't like the genre or doesn't play a lot of games.

And hey, you'll have a benefit I didn't: you'll know buried under that fucking moronic control scheme there's actually a really good game. I almost uninstalled the thing in disgust the first night.
Question solved, just bought Gothic 1 if I like it will play the others eventually.
whats with gothic 1 suddenly not being listed as win 7 compatible anymore? i downloaded it a while back and the movies didn't work but it ran! i guess people would rather have movies and not include their win 7 brothers in the mix.

I have two different discs of it, Original and Universe and both work with W7.

If you downloaded awhile back, check to see what it's patched to, gog's has the community patch now afaik.
