"Rep" stands for "reptile."

What others have said. The system is designed as a way to gauge how active and helpful a member is. Though as it has also been pointed out, the system is easy to abuse. And has been abused to the point where in general the rep number is meaningless.

That said, I will still up rate a post if the poster makes a well thought out point that is respectful to those with differing opinions. And I will down rate a post if I feel it is overly profane or if the poster is directly attacking another person.

Oh, personally I feel like a little deputy with my silver star and my 50 rep, oh yes I do son.

Well.. I was in irc few times years ago and I didn't care if I had the "crown" or not.. So it's not a big deal, it's only a question.

Its under your settings I think. Hit general discussion then look at the top right for a few icons.

Hit my settings button on top right, and change forum "title"
