Just being cautious here since I noticed I never had to type in my debit card number into Steam while buying a game, not sure where Steam stores that info. And is there anyway to disable the storing of the number.
What do you use? Paypal? If so, I wouldn't be worried. And besides, I wouldn't think Steam would have too much of a problem with hackers.
I have not really heard of steam really being hacked. It would more or less be your account that gets hacked, and not technically the website. If you are one of the people that worry about putting your credit card information online. Prevent your information from being saved to the website. Change your password often. Or use an alternate payment method to prevent access to your cred card information.

They're going after everything right now, I'm sure Steam is a target.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, but it wouldn't bother me.
You can delete your card info, but I don't remember how offhand.

Also when you go to check out there is a box that says save my payment info (or something like that) just uncheck that and it won't save it in the first place.

Of course steam might still save it somewhere on their servers that you can't get rid of, I don't think they do but really there's no way to know for sure.

The first time you enter it, there's an option to store it.
You can choose to remove it from your account at any point in time. Think its in your account settings or something.

To delete your card info click on your username/email in the top right hand corner of the client next to the minimize button. It should show your transaction history and so on and on the right there is your wallet balance and stored card info with a delete link.

Hmmm...given the spate of security breaches, I just did this, but it seemed somehow too easy. It wouldn't surprise me if the CC information was still stored by steam in some fashion.

Hypothetically speaking they could be, in practice I doubt that they do. They're just way too unapologetic about their abuses of power to bother to pretend like they're doing that without telegraphing to everybody that they're saving your information without your permission.

Then again, maybe they have been cracked. I bought a game from them a while back and not two weeks later somebody was ringing up unauthorized charges on my card. Nobody has stepped up to claim responsibility for losing my CC data.
they might hack the user data[steam guard? is it possible?] but dont think its possible to take down all the download content servers they have all over the world

I'm pretty sure that it is possible to crack the guard, and doing so would be a pretty serious blow to the service. Depending upon what they did, if they could trigger a massive failure of VAC, that would be a pretty significant source of lulz.

I'm suspect that there's software out there already that could be adjusted to do something like that. It's not like cheaters haven't been working on that for years. And probably some have gotten away with it. If you don't care if the accounts get flagged, that's even easier. Easier still is if you want the accounts to get flagged.

Thank you, worked like a charm, with all this crazy hacking thats going around i dont want any fraudulent charges on my CC.
I don't wanna think about it :(
