thuey: Child of Light. UbiSoft's stubborn stance is infuriating.
Child of light? NNNOOOO!!! That looks like a good game :(

But we'll see... Maybe that will change around sooner or later...
simply every game i want and is only purchasable on origin, i even skipped the freebies dead space and battlefield 3 on origin because of origin
Wow I knew I couldn't that felt the way I do about Steam and the other services and now I find a whole thread of people that are as like minded about it as me :D. To answer this thread's question more specifically as I'm pretty sure that everyone can say that Steam, Origin and uPlay are reasons why we have never bought any games exclusive to those platforms because of those platforms I was so close to buying Skyrim on disc until I found out that even the disc was just a Steam installer and that, along with the Steam authentication servers going down for about 4 hours when I was transferring games to my then new desktop (which I built after pirating Skyrim to try it out and found out my poor old laptop couldn't even handle it at the lowest graphics settings) which prevented me from installing them even from a disc backup even though I could log in, has caused me to just boycott buying anything from Steam ever again. I'll admit I have been pirating the games instead but if the games I'm pirating ever came to GOG I would buy them in a heartbeat because the DRM is the only reason why I haven't bought them (hm I wonder why PC games don't sale so well and are being pirated more according to the major publishers who use that as an excuse to put DRM on them in the first place) as I have never pirated any games available on GOG out of respect for the service they offer. Ok that's not entirely true there was a couple I pirated just because one of my friends was having issues with then and I wanted to see if I could find a fix for them on my end and I did buy one of them when I saw it available during one of the recent sales but I waited a long time trying to save up money for the Witcher 2 and it ended up going on sale allowing me to finally buy it...and realize how much I need to practice the combat if I'm ever going to be able to get past the first section. Now as far as Origin and uPlay screw both of those services. I don't care if every game on them was free I will never install 1 byte of those services' launchers on my computer even if you paid me to. All of this online DRM makes me miss the disc based DRM even more because at least then as long as I had the disc or CD key I could play the game with or without an internet connection even if they were annoying to deal with and are now so easy to bypass.

inc09nito: In Diablo 3, they at least won against piracy (at the cost of heavily crippling their game).
But steam crap in Skyrim isn't justified in anyway.

rtcvb32: You can't edit, hack, mod, or do anything with D3. Even texture replacements isn't allowed. And it looks like WoW in my opinion.

Compare this to D2, specifically Zy-El mod, and the expansion to the game in complexity, fun, secrets, and infinite inventory made it astounding and beyond measure, only limited by it's own programming limitations. Zy-El makes D3 look seriously inferior.
I never said D3 was good (if that's what you imply). In fact, I played it (I do not own it though) and I think it's totally mediocre ARPG, definitely not worth the price.

And of course, you are right - you can't do anything with the game, it's controlled by Blizzard entirely - no modding allowed, the game is not yours in any sense.
Holy moly, there are so many, here are a few I remember.

Borderlands 2
X Rebirth
X 3 Albion Prelude
XCom : Enemy Unknown
XCom : Enemy within
Skyrim
Van Helsing 1
Van Helsing 2
The Bureau
Fallout 3 New Vegas
Might and Magic X
Torchlight 2
Mass Effect 3
Space Rangers 1
Space Rangers 2
Galactic Civ 2
Drakensang 1
Drakensang 2
Starcraft new releases (accidentally bought the first one, didn´t know it would be forced online account bound)
Shadowrun Returns (Until it was offered on Gog)
Two Worlds 2 (Until it was offered on Gog)
Risen 2 (Until it was offered on Gog)

And soooo many more that I do not remember.

I returned these after finding out they were forced online client thingies, did not check properly before purchasing or not enough information on website.
Mass Effect 3
Skyrim
Fallout new vegas

Meh, shortly after release there were servers you could connect to that were not blizzard servers, so they even failed at that.

They were store bought (boxed versions), not from online services, and I did not open them, I noticed the Steam/origin requirements before so I was able to return them. However returning games can be a real hazzle since some of them were from amazon in the uk and I live in Iceland, so returning them is costly and stuff.

elendiel7: Since I have joined GOG, I have not purchased a video game on any other store front. Therefore I have only bought drm-free games since summer of 2013.
Same here, I have pretty much stopped checking for games outside of Gog since most game distributers are going for steam or origin and stuff like that.

I did download a test-version and yeah, this calling home didn't work with my local network setup and the game wouldn't work. So I refused to buy it.

darkwolf777: Reading some of the earlier posts, let's be clear: Steam is not DRM, Steam is a game launch client. Steamworks is Valve's DRM they've developed that developers are free to use, but they are not required to use. Many indie games, especially ones DRM free elsewhere (like here or Humble Bundle) do not include the Steamworks DRM even though you activate the game on Steam.
Dude, potato, potato (ehh yeah), steam is DRM becaue as soon as you need to authenticate yourself to do anything it´s DRM.

Well, you do have to log in to GoG to download anything, but at least we do not need it for the installation (not with every game on Steam too though, but with way too many).
I'm happy with GoG and HB until now and hope, that GoG-Galaxy will not be used for DRM.

Beyond being tied to the lore a bit and having Decard Cain in the game, it probably could have gone with a different name other than Diablo 3.

If they want to lock down the game that much, let them, there's quite a few people who won't ever touch it, not even the PS3 version. If they've said 'screw you' from early on, there's no reason to adopt later.

Honestly Path Of Exile is much better and free... Although there were certain issues I didn't like that felt like I'd never get ahead/even solo.

I Unfortunately have to add Transistor to my list. I really enjoyed Bastion and was looking forward to Transistor. Well, still hoping for a DRM-free version in the future, which would most probably come with a discount as well.

What is the DRM situtation with that game?

Yeah, that is true though, but considering that is the only time you have to authenticate I will let it slide 8)
