I've heard about GOG from early days, but I didn't join until the Fallout giveaway. (I've always been a late adopter!)

When i found out that Oddworld Strangers Wrath was available without steam here, it was a no-brainer for me - and i've been lurking around ever since ;)

Later the HD version got released here at no extra charge. - Win!
Stranger's Wrath is great! I was a fan of the Oddworld series for a long time but unfortunately missed Stranger's Wrath when it came out (I didn't have an Xbox and when it eventually released on PC I had forgotten about it). When I bought the other Oddworld titles available on GOG (Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus), Stranger's Wrath showed up in my recommended games, and was an instabuy for me. I don't regret it one bit, it may depart from the classic Oddworld games, gameplay-wise, but it's arguably one of the best games I've ever played, the Oddworld charm shines through, absolutely!

I forgot to mention the free games in my previous post. They weren't essential to my decision to stick with GOG for my PC gaming needs, but they sure helped! Beneath A Steel Sky, and, later on, [url=http://www.gog.com/game/flight_of_the_amazon_queen]Flight of the Amazon Queen are three of the best classic point-and-click adventures one can find, and though they are freeware everywhere, it sure is nice to have them all in one place, DRM-free, optimized to run on modern systems and running straight off-the-box, with no meddling or hassling required.

Also, I think I might have a problem, I may be addicted to linking GOG game pages every time I mention a game available in here.

I'm pretty sure it was when GOG released Ultima IV here, I saw somebody tweet it, and came to check it out.

I originally made an account here just to get the free games, Tyrian 2000 and Beneath a Steel Sky in particular. I finally bought my first game here, Independence War, after about 7 months and an irresistible discount. Then, a few months later I picked up Gothic 2. Then I got Broken Sword for free from one of their mass giveaways, and shortly afterwards one of my all time favorite games, Little Big Adventure, showed up and I insta-bought it along with Divine Divinity and Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded. Now, I've got 275 games here so far, and I love and respect GOG so much that I pay full price for everything I buy from here. I'm actually waiting for tomorrow for the discount on Risen 2 to expire so I can pick it up at full price to support GOG, Deep Silver, and Piranha Bytes, along with a few random games from my wishlist.

lol~ I keep seeing people mention Little Big Adventure, and now both of those are on my wishlist, too!

I swear that I didn't start this thread just to get game recommendations! haha

Just to warn you, Little Big Adventure's control scheme may take some getting used to. It's not that they aged poorly or anything, the controls were always a little odd. :)

And I just had some good timing by getting into day-trading when the stock market started climbing around the end of January, so I ended up with a lot of extra money for discretionary spending. It's very stressful, but it can be very rewarding. Yesterday and today were not such good days though.

for me it wasn't any game in particular, it was more of me liking the idea of "not being punished for buying a game". And I needed a way to get games & still maintain my principles.

Wasteland brought me here. I played that game like crazy BITD, and it was being given away free to kickstarter backers of Wasteland 2 (on GOG or Steam). I previously got "The Bard's Tale" (also free for being a backer) on Steam, and was not very impressed with Steam so I thought I'd give GOG a go. And I'm very glad I did, I love GOG and have bought many more games here since!

Civ5 brought me to GOG. It required steamworks which i rejected, so was in need of a new game (cuz Civ used to be the only game i needed). i first tried Elemental: War of Magic from Stardock. But they sold our digital accounts to another company. And they made a crap game and never finished the second game they gave away as recompense. They suck big time. i whined on stardorks forums about DRM and a kind poster directed me to GOG. Haven't bought a game elsewhere since. Bought more games in the few years here, than i did in all of the previous 14 years.

The game that brought me here was "Septerra Core".
I played it a long time ago, didn´t finished it, but I recalled the nice story and gameplay. I guess it got lost and I didn´t find anywhere to be offered, when suddenly, stumbled upon this site, which was about old games and not only that, they made them work in modern OSes, and they were DRM-free O_O! I was like......sjhdgsd...bookmarked! :D

I preordered The Witcher 2. I hadn't even heard of the site before that (shame on me!), and I thought, if GOG.com is a sister company of CD Projekt RED, making my purchase here would be a better way to support the developers rather than buying the game through middlemen.
