But only because of the ol' backlog. I'd pay full price if I wanted to play it RIGHT NOW, but see the former.

I´ll buy Banner Saga and Broken Age as soon as possible and a Retail-Collectors for Blackguards!
Next game I´m waiting to go on sale???
Maybe the latest Omerta-DLC, would take it for five bucks ;)
And the same with Rayman Origins!
Not that I wouldn´t pay full price for it---but my Jump n´ Run-Backlog is soooo huge!

From an anecdotal standpoint, I buy more games because of sales than I would otherwise have bought and end up spending more money overall than I would if there weren't sales. This is because I'm far more likely to buy a game I'm only marginally interested in if it's on sale - actually, scratch that: I'll only buy a game I'm marginally interested in if it's on sale. If it never goes on sale, I'll never buy it. If I end up liking the game a lot, I'm far more likely to buy the next one from that developer at full price. If I think the game is only okay but has potential, I might try another one of their games - but only if it's on sale. I figure most devs would far rather have me purchase their games on sale than not purchase them at all.
I've also actually re-bought a number of games, which would never have happened if they didn't appear on sale.

I was waiting for Tales of Monkey Island to come down in price, and was quite pleased to have picked it up last week for $5 and change (down from $35). Having played the first 2 or 3, I'm very satisfied with this newer one.

I would love to see more new indie games go on sale. The point-n-click adventure style. (Similar to the first Monkey Island games.)

I think sales are not a problem per se, they only become one if developers offer them too early, like only a few weeks or months after release (or even on release day, as in the case of Botanicula), because that's what's creating this culture of disappointed fans waiting for sales, and not the general idea of sales itself. I have no idea how popular Castle Doctrine is going to be, but I think many games wouldn't even be able to compete in this oversaturated market, if they would never go on sale.

'In the old days' most people propably would buy games they really wanted to play. Now, with the sales madnes they buy games because they're cheap and they might be interested in playing them later. They buy more games than they actually play, hence the huge backlogs.
As to waiting for a sale - Blade of Darkness.
I loved Demons Souls, so having heard the comparisons of BoD to Dark Souls (which I havent played yet, propably will after I get a new PC, so in ~ 2 years, after CDP releases Cyberpunk) and checking out some vids, I know I must play it.
