Hello GoGlodytes!

I know this community will be able to help me find the name of an old game that I used to play all the time, on my father's PC. (x386 I think)... 22/23 years ago.

The game started with a map (of some sort) and a chopper (of some sort) flying over it. You had to hit a key to make your soldier jump to the right spot. Once there, the shooting start. You controlled a Rambo-kind of soldier, and you had to make your way up through the map, avoiding traps and enemy soldiers. you could walk or crawl, and the level ended once you finished the objective (which I don't remember what it was, but it was marked on the map you saw at first)

Can't say anything about the colors as it was an amber monitor but it looked pretty neat, at least for the type of games I was used to see.

I have vivid memories about that game but I cannot remember the name... (actually I remember that it was c:\ar\ar.exe)

Does all this ring a bell to someone?
Strictly a guess based on the AR initials, but could it have been called something like Army Rescue or Aerial Rescue?
Airborne Ranger
It sounds an awful lot like Airborne Ranger.

EDIT: Ninja'd by a split second again!

It was a brilliant game, by the way. I played it on the C64. I'd welcome a modern remake.

Not modern, but there was a 1992 sequel to it (Special Forces), but I think none of the original AR developers were participating in making it.

It seems to be abandonware, at least there's no link to any place you can buy it from its abandonia page

Is the PC version any good? Most games from that era (1988 or earlier) are usually considerably better on Amiga or even Commodore 64, than on PC.

Its a Microprose game which means the rights probably ended up wither with Atari or Take 2 (or 2K or whatever the parent company is) via Frixis, It wasn't on the list of miscellaneous assets that Tommo bought when Atari went belly up so maybe they lie with Take 2 who GOG have so far not been able to sign as a publisher, but maybe someone bought them off Atari before the public auction - some stuff that's definitely Infogrames is unaccounted for right now...

For what I remember, it was very nice to see, and very easy to control (I was no older than 6 years old at the time, so that's for sure).

But since I never played the Amiga or C64 version so I cannot compare. Now that I know the name, I'll try to get my hands and all three versions and compare them.

Gaming time!
One of those games I remember playing at my friend's house on his C64 (RIP Mike). Definitely one of those that would be best served if GOG could start carrying non-DOS games.
