Nirth: What's with the cell phones hatred?
avatar
Reveenka: It's f*cking annoying when you're with someone and they check their phone\write sms's constantly.
Other than that I think lots of people are stressed out because they feel like they always need to be available, but that's not an issue for me. I turn my cell phone off when I don't want to be available, and that's actually worked wonders for my stress levels. Of course, some people have shitty bosses or jobs that require them to be available constantly and aren't able to just turn their phones off when they feel like it.
Don't forget the annoying ringtones of music, quotes Movies/TV, and people who use this for their email alarm:

Imagine hearing that at a funeral.

Nothing. It might be because I'm too young, but I'm really happy with the way things are. I never bought games legally before discovering DD...
Ah, I actually I found something that I miss, something pretty obvious:

- That you can't buy or give away used games anymore, and that you can't lend them to your friends. Well, with DRM-free games, technically you can, and Steam is working on that, too, with their Family Sharing, but both of these options are kind of awkward. And if I don't like my games anymore, I can only delete them or throw them away, I can't pass them on to someone who'd appreciate them more.

- That you can't buy games as a gift for RL friends without forcing them to create an account somewhere. No "here's a game, just try it" anymore, which makes it harder to convince less tech-savvy or more paranoid people. It's often much more of hassle to install a game than it was back in the days (which doesn't mean that all games were easy to install, but still).

amok: I'm not sure I miss anything at all...

by the way, I still read a lot of physical magazines, I still prefer them even thought they are not as up to date, but I do not see it as something that has changed. It is more of a case that I get news from online, but information is just as much from magazines.

keeveek: I think it only has to do with the layouts. For example, Bing News in Windows 8 Metro interface is awesome. It feels just like reading a magazine.
Could be, but I also read magazines in the little boys room, or in the kitchen when cooking :)

Huff: A nice, thick game manual to pore over from start to finish
This. Also, bookstores.
...that I was able to buy triple A games without having to fear Steam, but also the creativity - the genres seems to have dried down: racing (NFS), FPS (CoD and Battlefield), RTS (Blizzard's next release), MMO (WoW and the "next wow killer")

Honestly, I've trouble finding games I want - even if they were given to me for free I wouldn't play them. That's a really bad sign.

Leroux: and that you can't lend them to your friends.
Ah, this is a big one indeed. I discovered a bunch of games by lending friends games and borrowing something back. I would later buy the games I liked, even if I had already finished them, simply because I wanted them on my shelf and I wanted to support the developers.

Agreed, I'm not paying much attention to what's being released nowadays anymore. That's partly because I have an old computer that can't run the games, but also partly because I just don't find contemporary games to be all that creative anymore, instead going for yet another copy of some tried-and-true formula.

I really only buy new games for my 3DS. For my computer collection and even my console collection I tend to flesh out my library with oldies but goodies that I missed back then, and am much more inclined to pick up a PS1 or Gamecube game than anything more contemporary.

Tablets, bro, tablets.

They just need to make them waterproof and breakproof and we're all set.

I don't miss that. I always had to remind them 10 times that they have to return my games. Douchebags.

Manuals big and heavy enough to kill a horse with!

When I buy a complicated RPG or strategy game now all I get is a tutorial, installation instructions and a couple pictures with arrows to buttons telling me what they do. :(
Well also a shitty edited pdf file that either doesn't really explain stuff that needs explaining or makes it stupidly hard to find everything related to something. Who the fuck makes all these lousy pdfs?
I miss the smell of new games when you open them... the smell of recently printed manual's pages...

What I do like about the new games is that they are so intuitively designed and have so good in game explanation that you no longer need manuals big and heavy enough to kill a horse with :)
One thing that annoys me in this cheap, digital age is how CGI makes action movies look so clean, sterile and fake, and the only thing that may be real are the actors.

And I've seen books full of misprinted words due to the publishers using an OCR, anf then not even bothering to use a spell checker before printing their cheap books. What the fuck is up with that?!?
I don't miss anything, everything is pretty much way better for me now.
