I know that their national rugby team recently joined the Tri-Nations together with the Springboks, Wallabies and All Blacks. I also know that it's beautiful country, especially the desert region in which the Dakar rally took place.

A lot of Argentinian soccer players have (or at least had) long hair. In the late 90s / early 2000s I used to dub them the heavy metal team, and would frown upon those who had short hair because they wouldn't share the ideals of their metal brethren. Silly, I know, but I thought it was funny x)
Beef!
I know you can say it when you want to learn how to roll your r's. I still can't though. :/
They have some really awesome penguins.

monkeydelarge: Because the more you know about other countries, the better it is for you. Ignorance is not bliss.
Depends what the idea is applied to but in this case, I do agree that when it comes to knowledge of other countries, ignorance is not only NOT bliss but can possibly be quite costly as well. Seriously, with the amount of time I've spent in China, I could write an essay on my experiences that support that claim.

That my experiences here are irrelevant as this thread is about Argentina.

The only thing I know about Argentina is it's a country located in South America. In 2005, I did meet someone from Argentina and I thought he was a really cool guy. But beyond that, nothing. Considering I don't deal with Argentina or any people there, this shouldn't be surprise.

@OP

What was it that made you want to start a thread asking the GoG community what they knew about Argentina? Very curious topic this one.

milito3515: It's a completely unknown country for you? Or do you actually know some thing about it?
When I hear it, three things pop to my mind:

- Diego Maradona, and "hand of God" (yeah right).

- Madonna singing <span class="bold">"Don't cry for me, Argentina"</span> (I haven't seen that movie though, I'd probably know much more about Argentina's past if I had)

- Argentine tango (I've even learned it a bit, too confusing for me though, the "Finnish" tango is much simpler and easier to comprehend, but also much less interesting I guess)

I have no idea who is now running the country, what you are exporting, is there unease in Argentina at this very moment etc. (I'd probably mix it up with Venezuela). So now you know how we feel here!

Cormoran: ummm... Madonna sung a song about it in some movie i never watched (but radios played it a billion times) and I think it's in South America somewhere.

... That is all. :P
Ack, obviously I wasn't the only one.

I know it has a white and light-blue flag, and they speak Spanish, and also that they had a military dictatorship during the Cold War. That's about it.
