Bloodygoodgames: Just about every game I've played in the last couple of years, except the old games, don't use WASD, they usually use the mouse alone or occasionally the mouse and arrow keys. WASD is not remotely intuitive for me. It's too high a placement on the keyboard, which makes me wrist hurt after just 15 minutes of gameplay.

Ghorpm: Sherlock Holmes would probably conclude that most probably you are a girl of small build and your hands are small with short and slender fingers. That would fit perfectly to symptoms you've just described. The question is... would Sherlock be right? ;)
What's this? Your erotic fantasy? A teeny tiny girl with small hands that can kick your ass at Battlefield 3? :)

Not that small. 5ft 5, average build, big boobs though :) and yep, small hands.
Worst game: Deathwish 3 for the Commodore 64.
The Spec-Ops games on the original Playstation... those games were terrible.
SPORE: Creature Creator

I bought it years ago because I was thinking it was the full SPORE game (I was amazed by the low price) and not just a useles piece of shit. I installed it only once and it's hidden deep inside a closet since then. Everytime i see it, it reminds me of my naiveness and my wasted money.
Alien3 for SEGA Genesis
Mega Turrican for SEGA Genesis

Iron Storm PC
Medal of Honor: Airborne PC (beautiful graphics, terrible gameplay)

Rest of my games I love or like.

Fever_Discordia: Personally I prefer arrows because they are over there by themselves and easier for your fingers to find, whenever I try WASD I find that I've accidentally drifted to ESDF or something!
And no I've never be a touch typist or guitar player, I can see the advantage for people who do have the fine spacial awareness though
I think it sucks when games don't let you re-configure controls though, whether they are arrow or WASD based and it's just shocking that some games still don't have the option in this day and age - there's just no excuse and its usually a symptom of a rushed and botched port!
avatar
Bloodygoodgames: THAT :)

I always end up bashing away at the wrong keys plus slamming my wrist against the wrist rest while I'm at it (and the person who invented wide wrist rests should be shot :)

Oh and I'm a "touch typist" (my parents insisted I do a 2 year Private Secretarial degree before I went to university - best thing I ever did!) and I still get the wrong keys in the heat of battle.

darthspudius: I know this seems silly but you sure you don't need a better keyboard? If you're getting strain on your wrist from typing/gaming you could probably do with a softer, lower style keyboard with a wrist support.

I play drums and have had a good few reoccuring injuries that can make typing on a normal keyboard hurt my wrists. a nice bit of support (and usually abit extra cash lol) can make a difference.
avatar
Bloodygoodgames: I KNOW I need a better keyboard :)

I'm currently using a laptop I bought in Spain a few months ago. All the new laptops now seem to come with really wide wrist rests and I freakin HATE wrist rests. So....by the time I reach WASD, my wrist and half of my arm, it seems like, is already resting on the wrist rest which HURTS.

Need to buy another plug in keyboard but my desk is already so jammed full of stuff I don't know where I'd put it. And then I couldn't play games lying in bed with my laptop on my knees :)
Try a wrist sweat band. I use to use them for my laptop, it was convenient enough to support my wrist and cheap too. You just never know. :)

You've just made my day ;) Very witty! I'm humbled ;)

But believe me - my fantasies are different ;) Especially if we are talking about Battlefield part - FPS is not my cup of tea, I don't think I play any of them more than fifteen minutes (ok, Wolfenstein 3D is the only exception here) and as a result I cannot play them well so I guess everybody can beat me. And about the rest... well my fantasies are not really based on physique. And let it be that way...

Big, small... it's relative. If I'm not mistaken I'm 10 in taller than you. And my hands are huge even for my height. You have no idea how painful it is to find gloves that actually fits.

Anyway, thanks for brightening my day. Your one-liner was perfect!

Perfect timing too. I've already used a lot of minced oath and it became apparent that it wouldn't suffice. But now it's all over - I'm calm and happy. It's amazing how little things can help you solve big problems ;) Thanks again

Wow, I learn something every day!

I have NEVER heard the term 'minced oath' before. Had to look it up. Very funny. Thanks for the English lesson too :)

And you still got a better deal than you would have if you got the full Spore game, as the creature creator cut out all the bad parts.

What? KOTOR is a masterpiece. So is TF2.

Have you ever played a really awful game. I have! It's called the silver lining. I like Kings Quest, but this is just...

What's the problem with TF2, exactly?
