cogadh: Uh, no, but even so I still fail to see what that has to do with us Americans in particular, especially considering that "barely legal" porn refers to porn that features *ahem*... actresses... who are actually 18 (just turned 18, that is). I've encountered way more instances of age questionable porn from former Eastern Block nations than I ever have from the US. Seen any "Russian Teens" porn lately?

I suspect he means it more in the sense of "That 35 year old woman is SO not 18 years old"

Yes. Yes I have. :D
This thread just got me exited, especially with older classics like Nethergate, Slicks n' Slide, Assault Trooper and other similar good/old indie games.

Do we have a "what kind of porn have you seen lately" thread out there :> ? Would be quite interesting (and slightly amusing) to have one...

18 - my point exactly. As much as I admire quite a few things about the USA, this is one of those that seem unnatural as hell to me...
Keep in mind - it's a lot easier to spot for a foreigner, because "how are they different from us ?" is a lot simpler to answer than "how are we different from others ?".
@ the posts above: please keep this thread ontopic!!!
I hope GOG.com consider the great indie games out there. I think that if they start to late with putting them on a lot of great indie games will be forgotten... We should make a list so we will remember them in 2 or 3 years.
I already started in the OP with World of Goo and Osmos. I also like Plants vs Zombies, but its not really indie is it?

m.elsinghorst: I know the website is called Good Old Games. But what about indie games on GOG? I think they would love to publish there games on GOG.
I'm thinking of games like World of Goo and Osmos for example. Games like this are fun to play and are similar to old games (focused on gameplay).
What do you think?
p.s World of Goo and Osmos are DRM free already.

There are bunch of indie games that would be nice to see on GOG; time will tell.

cogadh: I'm not sure I understand what that means or how to take it. What is this leniency about the age of 18 that you are referring to?
avatar
stonebro: Have you watched any Barely Legal porn lately?

Meh. PG Porn is where it's at!

I'll raise you one,
MOST "barely 18" porn features actresses in their 20's who LOOK younger. Mia Lina in particular was doing "barely legal" porn well into her mid 20's. It's jut a branding technique, some idiots are into jail bait.

You just made me look up Mia Lina.

I am still failing to see your point. I'm not sure you are really explaining it clearly. What is so unnatural about the "age of consent" being 18 in about half of the US? A lot of things happen at 18 here: legal adult status begins, you can buy cigarettes, you can vote, you can join the military... what is really unnatural is that we allow all those things at 18 but you have to be at least 21 to legally buy or drink alcohol.
We should talk about serious stuff here : indie games.

She has a nice body of work, including the great <blank> cocktail.

Like I said - you might not see it as THAT weird, because it's your own country. You probably got used to it by now.

Don't you think that a 17 year old is both physically and mentally fit to have sex ?
Also - let's be honest here - do you really think people will refrain from having sex before turning 18 ? And on a slightly different note - do you think it's wrong ?
I GUESS that these laws were made to protect the innocent children from unwanted attention by pedophiles. Do you think people at this age still don't have a mind of their own ?
Also - inb4 the heap paradox.

I never said THAT was natural ;).
In Poland the age of consent is 15, and you can drink, smoke, drive, vote and watch porn @ 18. That mostly makes sense to me...

So you have to be more mature to drive a car than to have sex?
That's interesting. Also, allowing people to start driving the same time they can start (legally) drinking? That seems like a recipe for trouble.
I think you are assuming that a law stating that the age of consent is 18 implies that it is equivalent to the country's moral standard. The thing is, there is no national age of consent here. Some states its 18, others its 16, some individual municipalities are even different within the states. The way our country is set up, laws like that are not the responsibility of the federal lawmakers, they are the responsibility of the individual states as sovereign entities, like countries unto themselves. For example, just as Poland's age of consent law may be different from Germany's (I don't know if it really is), New York's is different from California's (I also don't know if it really is, I live in Michigan).
Basically the whole idea of the "age of consent" being 18 is usually just attached to the "legal adult" concept for convenience sake rather than for moral sake (easier to write one law addressing everything at one age). No one really expects mature teens under the age of 18 to not have sex and no one is really going to be arrested for doing it, its just there, as you said, to protect minors from pedophiles and such. Even then the law does allow for exceptions. Believe it or not, most states actually have a parental consent clause that allows persons under the age of 18 but older than 14 or 15 to engage in... mature relationships... if the parents allow it, though that is mostly applied to underage marriage.
