Romulus: I think that when networking is involved, it simply can be anything which causes a problem. I was getting 15 minute drops from my wifi connection, so I moved the router in the other room from the desk up ontop of the bookshelf next to it. The problem stopped right away, even though the thing has moved less than a meter.

I'm a qualified network administrator and am 3/4 of the way through a cisco certified network associate qualification and I have to say that you're spot on. Shit happens is basically the mantra of networking. In your case I'd not be surprised if it was channel interference from another nearby source, moving it might just have shifted it out of effective range of the other transmitter. You might want to download #inSSIDer and see if it can pick up many other networks in the area

I live in a close-nit residential area, its all terrace housing and at my desk alone I get about 13 wifi signals. I'm not surprised I get interference. I once was getting massive packet loss, so I changed the channel and SSID and it worked fine.
I've always referred to it as Network Daemon Slaying.
metal blinds would probably be an asset there then

drmlessgames: I've been trying to download the 2GB file from ut2k4 with the GOG downloader for the upteenth time now, and it keeps resetting itself. Ive also tried downloading the file directly with my browser, but I cant leave it downloading on one pass, and it won't resume when downloaded that way. So, until GOG comes up with a downloader that actually works, Im not buying anything more from GOG since I wont be able to play it.

Sorry to hear about the problems downloading and with our downloader too :-\
I've asked support to help with a temporary workaround for now, so that you can download the game another way and someone will be in touch tomorrow.
Hate to hear that man, GOG is a great site with awesome games. You should check out this new game site that just launched and is claiming they're going to have the largest catalog in the world, the first Open Catlaog like iTunes. www.GameStreamer.com Their website says they will have a full featured Download manager by end of July and they'll have streaming as well by August-Sept.
Best of luck,
SS

drmlessgames: i wish whiney users would stop jumping into conclusions. I tried 3rd party downloaders, Gog people said they won't work since GOG uses special authentication on the download servers which reset the connection. The only way to download and resume a game is with the official AIR downloader. And no, it's not my ISP. My ISP is crappy, i know, probably the crappiest ISP, but they don't exclusively reset GOG downloads. I have downloaded gigs' worth of games from Steam and Impulse without a hitch, and with resume option. Last time I contacted GOG they told me to just pause and resume the download at times. That's not a good option, having to supervise the download the whole 2 GB of it.

Jiggle the handle, sorry had to say it. :)

You wouldn't by any chance be affiliated with them, would you? Brand new user, and throwing that link all around the forum. I call spam.

Shall I bring the anti-marketing personel weaponry?? Because I need an excuse to use it...
What, like a claymore that only detonates in the presence of advertising people? Is the IFF sophisticated enough to exclude the GOG lads/lasses?

It would be programmed to recognize the staff's distinctive blue text....
I might just check that site out, if they have a downloader that actually WORKS.
