Yeah I installed Daggerfall and THOSE CONTROLS ARE EVIL!!!

How did PC gamers played these games back then? and I placed GTA 3 on PS2 as the worse controls in video games ever.

Help me, help me Roman5 help me :(

You have been streamlined
Even for the time, Daggerfall's pretty clunky. Ultima Underworld came out like 4 years earlier and I find the controls easier to get the hang of.

Like everyone's been saying, it takes a bucketload of time to get used to it.

Fortunately (?), the game is epically long, so you have several dozen bucketloads of time on your hands.
i say this as somebody who finished daggerfall, and made maybe 5 characters, and did all of the daedra quests, and maxed most of the temple/guilds:
nobody just stops playing daggerfall, you can only rage quit. And when it was time for me to stop playing i rage quit too.

It took me the entire first dungeon to get used to the controls but they definitely grew on me. I kind of like the action of swinging the sword with a mouse - sort of Wii-ish, if that makes any sense.

Anyway, I also rage quit the game after a quest in the Main Questline bugged and I had no way of "finishing" the game. I'll try again some other day.

I know its a good game, but man:

the shift buttons are for strafing and ins and del buttons are for looking up and down.

And here I thought Daggerfall was the first game to feature look up, down, left, and right with the mouse by default.
It's in DosBox, so you could rebind the keys. I don't remember what opens the rebinding window, though? F11?
Oh, oh. There is no insert key on my Mac keyboard.
That's also my first reaction.......
I picked it up again after awhile, and it worked ok.

It's actually not that bad after you get used to it.
I rage quit Daggerfall after it made me literally get sick and vomit.

This. So much this.

IIRC there was an option to turn on mouse-look. Have you checked it?

Also, still IIRC, most keybindings are reconfigurable.

Turn off headbobing.

Strafing is not all that important in Daggerfall, so don't worry about that. And using ins & del for looking up & down was not all that uncommon back when DF was released. The controls are very much an artifact of its era, something that you have to get used to. But I guess someone who are used to those controls would have issues just jumping into a modern game.

And I've lost track of how many times Daggerfall has made me rage-quite.
