keeveek: Wait. You say that original has cheesier voice acting? You kiddin me? I saw tones of comparison videos, and:
McFlynn totally didn't understand her character. The voice she made was completely out of character.
Also, the new James voice is just... so fucking..."I'm a badass here". Damn, this was so weak. Original voices are so much better for every character existing in both games.
I only heard from friends about the awful voice acting so far, now I finally heard a comparison:

God, I want to punch the whole team behind the HD collection in the face. You're right about the "I'm badass" thing. It totally breaks the whole character. And all the weirdness that defined Angela is gone too. I mean, Angela was very odd but the moment where you learn that she was sexually abused as a kid kinda explained it, suddenly I understood that her way of talking reflects that of little frightened and traumatized girl. Everything was perfect about the cast. Not to mention that the original devs did a perfect job including their cast in the development, they even used the voice actors for the motion capturing. It's incredible how idiotic the team behind the HD collection was to just throw all of this away.

And I'm only listening on a laptop right now, but is it just me or are the environmental effects of the new voice samples botched? To me it sounds like Angela's voice has the reverb you'd expect in a big room, James' voice from the same scene and place seems to have different effects. Additionally the voices and character animations aren't synched as well as in the original. God, I hate the HD edition.

Elmofongo: Sorry I could not stand Original James and Mary's Voice, the New ones felt more Breathy, and more Emotional same goes for Eddie.

keeveek: This conversation is over!!!!!!!!11111!1!!!!1oneone
Now you know how I feel about fixed camara.

And HD James does NOT sound like a Badass like Snake.
When SH HD collection came out I watched a voice acting comparison video. Different link to above:

I think it was mainly the Eddie one that put me off the idea. His new voice sounded laboured and I couldn't stop imagining that the actor was putting on a stereotypical hippy voice. I also kind of feel Angela sounds more nervy in her original voice which is fitting. But having heard the original voices first perhaps it makes me a bit biased :)

If having a better idea of what the game is supposed to be like is being biased...

Its too bright now I can clearly see Pyramid Head F###ing those Manniquins :(
As many have stated before, the point of Silent Hill is not neccesarily to scare you in a "jumpy" way, but rather to provide a provoking and disturbing psychological horror story. I have only played 1-3, and the one that actually achieved this for me was the second title, I found the plot of 1 and 3 a bit silly and dumb, (1 has it`s moments though, the story of Lisa Garland was interesting), but from a gameplay and atmospheric perspective I prefer the first SH over the others.

That looks very good, how did you get it to look that good? Did you add custom textures or what?

I've actually never played a single silent hill game yet.

Play them in the order of 2, 3, 4, 1. And somewhere in there, play the Wii ones. That's really clever. The game changes in countless different ways as it actually psychologically profiles you based on how you play and what you do. Characters will look and act differently because of who the game thinks you are, areas will change, enemies will look different. Even things like spending a long time looking at beer on the shelves in bars, or staring at women's cleavage, will have the game assessing you and altering the nightmare to suit you.

Export: Play them in the order of 2, 3, 4, 1
Why would he do that? Playing 3 before 1 is pointless. It makes the "armchair scene" nothing as powerful.

ALWAYS play SH1 before SH3. ALWAYS.

I bought, played, and beat Silent Hill 1 long before I played Silent Hill 3.

You do know Silent Hill 1 is being sold on PSOne Classic right?
Oh, well I was more going off the idea of Silent Hill 1 looking like someone vomited grit all over cardboard, and then built a town out of it - but I did forget the obvious plot link somehow. Still, I think the difficulty in getting to grips with SH1 now, as opposed to going 2, 3, 4, outweighs the advantage of taking that bit of plot in order. After all, the plot of SH1 was just some crazy shit that doesn't really fit into the more psychological themes of 2 and 4 (and the Wii remake).
Yeah, I understood why you suggested SH1 as a last one, but stories of SH1 and 3 are connected, so they rather shouldn't be played in swapped order.

It looks terribly bad for today's standards, but well... So does Resident Evil 1, but it's still an awesome game. (but it has a cool remake too)
