keeveek: Yeah, I was referring to the "generic japanese girl with long black hair covering her eyes" that is not scary, because it's in almost every japanese horror film ever made.

BUT still. The way the bitch moves, sounds, that you know you can't kill her (unless you have a certain item), was scary as hell.
Oh that yeah creepy little girls are prevelant even F.E.A.R. had one.

This is scarier than little girls man:

Yes I love Resident Evil Remake so much I want to marry it grrr I nfected better reclaim that Classic RE feel.
Silent Hill has never really scared me
I don't know how's that possible :P The soundtrack alone gave me extreme creeps...
Well,Silent Hill (at least from1 to 4) is my favourite horror saga but...it never scared me.
It disturbs me,and that is different.
Silent Hill 2 is disturbing becausee James kills his wife, and all the "horrors" he saw reflect this.
Silent Hill 3 is nothing special, but there is only one scene I really hate: after Heather reject her....kid,and then...I really hate that scene, every time I play the game I skip that FMV.

It is pretty subjective really which makes it interesting what scares each person. I remember playing SIlent Hill 1 with someone else in the room and thinking maybe I should stop because they seemed to be getting pretty scared. It was the part at the beginning down the alley. I just find it disturbing really than scary. But the jump scares in SH 3 were pretty cheap (it seemed like there were a lot of moments where you've explored a room, deemed it safe and as you're about to leave the room BAM loud noise).

I think I might find Project Zero / Fatal Frame series more scary since the threats are invisible or hiding until they're attacking you and you can't just beat them down with a pipe. I've only played a bit of the first one though so far so too early to tell for the longrun. SH 4 has the ghosts you cant just beat up but I guess since I could see them floating around the place for me to try to dodge I just found them an annoyance. But overall I like the atmosphere of Silent Hill the most and the concept behind it.

Did you beat the originals, or the HD Collection? Because if you beat the latter, you haven't beaten SH 2 and 3.

Yeah that is the appropriate feeling get playing the series, all the emtion, the depression, the atmosphere, it is not scary in the sense that its threatening or evil, its more distubing and symbolic hell Silent Hill kinda sounds least dangerous than Raccoon City or Derceto.

(SPOILERS)

Oh and yeah that part in Silent Hill 3, Heather basically vomited a fetus and Claudia just swallowed the thing from the floor.............I wonder if that can work in real life?

keeveek: Btw. I know this is generic japanese horror stuff, but I had nightmares after that part:

Did you literally have nightmares? Because I did indeed have some awful nightmare after the first time I encountered that bitch. I dreamt that my grandmother turned into a ghost like this, I hid in my room and heard that weird hover sound the ghosts in SH4 make. I heard her moving behind the door, I was crapping my pants and then I woke up all sweaty. And here comes the kicker: suddenly I heard that sound again, it was coming from a nearby construction site, just beyond my window. I must have heard it while I was asleep. :D

F4LL0UT: Did you literally have nightmares?
Yes, I had :D

I dreamt about having a large wardrobe with big mirror on one wing. She was in that mirror, bashing, screaming and kicking, trying to get inside. The glass was creaking a bit, and then I realized my entire apartament is haunted...

I almost wet myself :P And I was alone in the apartament, because my fiancee was visiting her parents, as I recall.

And I usually don't have nightmares.

Dude I saw the PS2 ones and its the samething only with cheeser voice actors. yeah the fog is a little ruined but I own the first Silent Hill from PSOne Classics and even that was not scary, besides the indoor parts of the game like the apartments, hospital, subway, prison, etc. were more scarier because it was dark inside. Heck in Silent Hill 2 it was scarier outside when it was at the dark of night.

Reminds me of a certain moment in SH2. It's in the aparments where you meet Pyramid Head for the first time (Bluecreek Apartments or something like that?). In one room there's suddenly some whispering. It comes out of nowhere, it's not triggered by some special event, you just walk through a room and suddenly there it is. This moment scared the shit out of me. It may count as a jump scare but it's the most epic one I have ever seen/heard in any game.

Wait. You say that original has cheesier voice acting? You kiddin me? I saw tones of comparison videos, and:

McFlynn totally didn't understand her character. The voice she made was completely out of character.

Also, the new James voice is just... so fucking..."I'm a badass here". Damn, this was so weak. Original voices are so much better for every character existing in both games.

I've seen how they fucked up the James' video, when he remembers that he killed his wife. The video in remake is cropped so badly, you hardly even see what's going on.

Cat in a locker in SH1 is better :D

As I recall, it's you find some blood stains, you follow them, you hear some noises. You open the locker, and you find nothing inside, only huge stain of blood. You close the locker, you are about to step outside the room and BAM! very loud cat noise.

Oh, I think I remember it wrong:

Yeah it's not something that would get you in subsequent playthroughs, but the first time its like "Wha?" since its a bit of a surprise. SH3 had quite a few of those. There was a shop in the mall near the start I was looking about in, nothing there so I go to leave, and suddenly there was a loud thud noise but I couldn't see anything. Can't find a clip made of it, since its possibly a random trigger you just stumble on, but this video highlights some of the other bangs and sudden thuds:

Then later in the Mannequin Room of course, it seems safe, you carry on then BAM!

kinda offtopic, but do you remember that scene from Condemned?

The best jump scare ever :P

Sorry I could not stand Original James and Mary's Voice, the New ones felt more Breathy, and more Emotional same goes for Eddie.

As for SH3 Well not that much different except Douglas which his new voice is better than his Original.
