ok that is really weird, I went to the bathroom i come back and a window show up on my computer that says there is something wrong with it, I press cancel and it reboots itself my desktop is all black and only has firefox, skype and recycle bin and is completely black but all my files are still there, it also asked to scan my PC and it said my pc has a ton of problems like Drive C:\ is unreadable My Ram is messed up and computer's speed is decreased by 20%. also 20 some errors showed up saying something about system 32 and plus this window showed up i clicked it and it led to this Interent explorer window telling me too buy this software to fix my pc that costs $74.00 and you can exit out of it. thankfully all my files are their but this is some messed up virus.

Combofix might help with those things. When I've had to remove malwares such as what you are describing, it does a good job nuking it.

You are the victim of a "ransomware" program. Nothing is wrong with your computer they just want you to purchase their crapware program. Your black desktop and the "popups" are a dead giveaway. Post the name of the "program", something like "Windows 7 Antivirus" or some such and I will post a link to a "remove" page if there is one.

You got infected. Here's what I do: from the IE window that popped up telling you to buy that software, take that software name and do a search. I'll bet that half the links on the first search page are from sites telling you how to remove that particular malware.

Good luck with it - this stuff usually takes me a couple hours to fix; then again, I'm no IT pro so it may take me longer than other folks. It's usually not difficult but it does take some time.

What is the name of the "Virus scan" program?

i can't it is gone infact I think it is gone all that is left in it's wake is my empty desktop and a screwed up start menu. or maybe it will come back later who knows. i am glad that it is a malware virus and not just my computer crapping out on me

These newer ransomware programs disable system restore and some . . . disable exe execution so installing a malware program may not be possible till you kill the process in safe mode or a regular boot to windows

Safe mode loads no programs if they manage to add themselves to the windows root system I'm pretty impressed since safemode hashes them to make sure they aren't tampered with...

also when that Internet explorer window popped up I couldn't really do anything so I had to log out and that's when it went back to semi normal.

The smarter programs are disabling exe execution in the registry regardless of being in safe mode. System restore is disabled along with other file extensions as well. They are getting fairly good at what they do nowadays . . = )

Best bet with this is to boot into safe mode with networking, then download malwarebytes, update it and do a scan / remove.

When you first boot into windows safe mode the program will most likely still run, just cancel out of it then get malwarebytes.

Once downloaded you may have to rename malwarebytes as these ransomware programs usually block you trying to run AV type programs. Just remove a few letters from the name and then install it and let it do its thing.

Hopefully that will be the end of the ransomware. Occasionally though you sometimes have to re install or repair Windowsafter the removal
