GOG loves D&D

The Best of The Best. Unrivaled Champions of the genre. Nine of the Greatest. The Supreme Achievement of isometric era. Matchless. Perfect. 11 out of 10. Yes, you've guessed it--we're talking about D&D RPGs. From now until Friday, September 21 at AM 9:59 GMT [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/hasbro_stacking_promo/]you can buy fantastic Hasbro RPGs from the world of Dungeons and Dragons up to 65% off! If by some terrible twist of fate you didn't have the chance to add all of those Diamonds to your collection, now is a chance to correct this terrible injustice. Let's take a peek into the treasury, shall we?

In the center of our D&D chamber we've got the iconic Baldur’s Gate: The Original Saga and Baldur’s Gate II: Complete that collectively received over 10 “Best game of the year” awards from publications such as PC Gamer, Eurogamer, Computer Games Magazine and IGN. And in the cold, ice-filled corner there's the Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 series that brought the D&D license to a more combat-oriented RPG gaming. The strange shimmering light comes from the inter-dimensional portal where Planescape: Torment resides. Winner of multiple RPG and Game of the Year awards in 1999, it is widely considered as one of the best storytelling RPGs in gaming history.
The treasure chamber wouldn't be complete without Neverwinter Nights--a game with a great single player campaign that offers even greater multiplayer experience and modding capabilities. This game is literally one you could play the rest of your life, if you were determined to get through every single user-created campaign or keep attending a multi-player server. And don't forget about the somewhat underrated gems in the collection! Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is a fascinating blend of RPG and RTS. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is an action RPG with some interesting tactical elements to go along with the usual hack and slash of the genre. Finally, Temple of Elemental Evil, one of the tougher tactical RPGs ever--so hard that it balances on the fine edge of fairness.

A short news post like this is not nearly enough to give justice to each single D&D Diamond available in this promo. And because GOG staff loves D&D so much we are going to tell you about our personal experiences with those games throughout the week, starting tomorrow. But enough talk! Let the D20s roll! Visit the promo page to complete your collection of Diamonds of D&D!

MrBunraku: So, quick question. I just found GOG, and I'm really interested in getting either BG 2 or NWN while they're on sale. Which should I choose?
Depends on what you want. Baldur's Gate 2 is a party-based game with a strong narrative, a huge amount of content and some great characters, whereas Neverwinter Nights thrives on its customizability and the HUGE number of community-made adventures. The main campaign of NWN is rather bland, but the two addons Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark are well worth playing.

billybgame: I read that about the BG1 expansion, as well, and wondered about that. I think I'm just going to plunk down the $30.01, or whatever it was, and buy the whole kit and kaboodle, and hope for the best. My 10 year old son is here sick off school today, so what better day to give BG1 a multiplayer shot again?:) If I can't get it to work, I'm going to be pretty frustrated. We shall see.
Good luck! I hope you guys get to play together (and that he feels better)! :)

I'll second what Nergal01 said; it depends what you're looking for. BG2 will give you a fantastic story all around, and NWN is more dependent on the expansions and modules. Personally, I have played BG2 many times over but only did NWN once and couldn't bring myself to go through the expansions because of the negative experience I had during the main campaign.

I have Minsc on disc ;) but i wanted the games on GOG all at once...so... :)
I've bought:

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition
Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale Complete
Icewind Dale 2 Complete
(had the other games and didn't want Dragonshard and Demon Stone)

but the bank processed the payment and the games don't appear on my collection!

This is the first time when i have a problem with the site ... what to do?

Thanks

Contact support with a description of your problem; they're very helpful.
I've contacted the support and they solved the problem.
All it's good now.
Thanks
Ah damn, missed it. How often is this kind of promo run? I want it!

Barefoot_Monkey: I saw the word "Diamonds" and you had my full attention.

I need to lay off the Minecraft.

All of these together hasn't occurred before, but the IE games were on sale during last year's Christmas sale, if memory serves. I would bet on them being on sale again this coming Christmas season.

If you mean this kind of promo, whatever the game, that's roughly once or twice a week.

They've had very similar promos before, September of last year and February of this year. So about every 6 months, but yeah, the Christmas sale will likely be the next opportunity.

billybgame: Thanks...those are somewhat useful.....I've read at least some of them before, when I was trying to get it to work....we even tried Game Ranger, but had some issue, that I can't recall at the moment. It's been months, so it's fuzzy.

So, basically, it seems the GOG games don't really remove any of the issues the disk version have.

But, I still don't have the expansions for BG1 or BG2, Icewind Dale 1 or NWN. And, don't even own T of Elem Evil or Icewind 2.....I still think I'll buy most or all....just not sure the less desirable few games are worth $3 more:) My disc copy of Planescape works fine, so don't need that one, etiher.

kelseyr713: Welcome! I tried, anyway. Something I came across while reading those was that GameRanger preferred the expansion of BG1...perhaps that would solve your problem? I ended up buying ToEE and IWD2 for the same reason - never played and didn't own. :)
Here I am again......took a long time to download and install BG1 and 2, that day, and we never got a chance to give MP a whirl until today.......thought I'd post my results.....

Game Ranger would not work. That's what I tried first. All we ever got was "aborted" messages when starting to get into the multiplayer join screens. Gave up on that after a bit, and after reading some here. Thing was, I know I read that TOSC works better there, but all I see is Baldur's Gate listed, for my games?????

Anyhow, figured I'd just give regular multiplayer a try.....and lo and behold, it worked! No windowed mode, or anything. Only thing I did was go in and change the Compatibility to get rid of the Desktop Composition and Visual Themes, as I've seen suggested many times. So, there ya go.......cool beans....

BTW....I hosted on my Win 7 laptop and him on an XP desktop, with a AT & T Uverse router home network, for what it's worth.

I'm so glad it ended up working for the two of you! Have fun beating the games together! :)

GOG's version of BG1 includes TotSC as well.
