King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, and Police Quest series, as well as many other Activision classics, 60% off! Any Questions?

Nowadays, hearing the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> your mind will probably follow the train of thought inevitably leading to the realms of role-playing games. But 20 years ago? In the 1990s, when <i>Sierra Online</i> was the towering mountain in the landscape of game development, the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> was almost synonymous with an adventure game. Last week we did celebrate the fact that point-and-click adventure genre is doing almost as well as in the good old days. Today, we take a look back at the best that said good old days had to offer. Retrogamers, rejoice! For we give you the [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/activision_weekend_promo_170114]Winter Quest Fest, with all the quest titles form the GOG.com classic catalog, as well as many other memorable titles from the nostalgic treasure chest that is Activision catalog, with a substantial 60% off discount! Let's take a closer look at one of the adventures that await you, shall we?

Quest for Glory 1-5 is an amazing collection of Sierra's innovative action-RPGs. Each of the five games can be played as a whole but you can also treat the series as one big adventure, as the character and his accumulated wealth can carry on from one game into another. Become a mage, a thief, or a knight and explore the five huge worlds, each based on a different culture and mythology, from Germanic fairy tales, through Arabian and Slavic folklore, right down to Greek myths. Experience the game that set many standards in the "new school" of computer RPG. All that, for a mere $3.99. Let our user Rambutaan tell you a little more about that timeless gem!

Rambutaan's GOGgame Story: Quest for Glory

Note, that the game featured by Rambutaan is the EGA original Quest for Glory, but you get both this and the updated VGA version in our package. Another classic quest series--the one that started it all, in fact--is the long-lived saga known as King's Quest (available in thee packs King's Quest 1+2+3, King's Quest 4+5+6, and King's Quest 7+8, for $3.99 each). Let the classic gaming paladin, our user Rknight718 tell you more about his favorite, King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human!

Rknight718's GOGGame Story: King's Quest 3

Feeling a little hobbity, not in the mood for an adventure? No problem! There's a ton of other games--action games, strategy games, driving games, and whatnot-- in our promo page. All of them available 60% off, until Tuesday, January 21, at 4:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

Any thoughts on which Zorks I should get?

lugum: Because they are not available to GOG or other reasons? i know some are "rare" and harder to get.

jimbob0i0: The way publication and distribution rights work you might find it is a different company that holds the rights to that specific version than the DOS one they have ...

This. Pretty much. Which does not mean we'll ever stop trying to secure those versions. The Quest series are some of our key products, so we do care to make them as attractive as possible for you. Well, this and the fact that there's nothing more awesome than a complete collection. :-)

Still, we do offer all of the King's and Space Quest titles, so both stories are 100% playable from the first command to the last point-and-click :-)

I'm only familiar with Zork I so I can only recommend The Zork Anthology. The others look interesting though and I might pick them all up myself.

Would you not offer the AGD remakes of King's Quest 1-3 along with the originals? They're free and AGD often promote GOG.

Nemesis is the best one IMO, but it isn't a humorous game like the other Zorks and that turns some people off. Grand Inquisitor is most people's favorite. It has the old humor, but easier than Nemesis. Both are must haves if you like that sort of first person adventuring.

The text adventures are worth playing as well, if you're interested to see the series' roots. I haven't played Return to Zork so I can't attest to that one.
I just found my Dark Reign 1 field guide, guess I better go ahead and get the game in here. At 3.99 I guess it's worth only being able to complete the tutorial. :P

OT does anyone else here have the original DR field guide/manual? It's done up to look like some old tome ie Diablo or NWN or something; not exactly what you think of with "The Future of War". XD
I will get that Quest for Glory pack someday but I'm not ready yet... :D

PS. Remember that there's also AGDI's free remake of QfG II.

I'd be happy to see some more Activision releases in general. We haven't had any appear in here a LONG time!

golea: Balls! How will I ever be able to play all these games? Could someone please add a couple of hours to a day and prolong the average human life span.
Please no, they would be automatically converted to additional working hours.. :\

We could fire off a message to AGDi/Himalaya asking them to drop by and clarify the situation, but my understanding is that Activision had AGDi enter into an agreement regarding those remakes, and having them here would go against it (pretty sure IQ and POS had a similar agreement with their own remakes/fan games).
Nice Promo!

Although I was hoping for something that would present me with an alternative to sail my ship clear of the sirens of the Humble weekly sale and the jagged, rocky doom of Steam :(
How I love the Quests series (space, king and police), ever since they came out. Always have fond memories of my first games. I sill remember being surprised sooo sooo many years later that the King's Quest series was made by a woman. They never ever advertised that when the game started out and took off, only later. I have always wondered how that would have impacted the game since I am sure most (if not all) of us playing at that time where around the teen male demographic. Such different times.

Oh and I still remember that thing about putting something something on the bird nest and getting whatever gizmo was needed to progress. Gosh that puzzle was stupid.

Good times, good times.
I am very happy to see this sale, and it is one that I have been waiting for. Apparently, I missed the same sale from November 2013. Looking forward to trying out Quest for Glory.

This was fairly well known at least in the States.

Also, King's Quest IV is probably my favorite of the text parser King's Quests though the third one is right up there.

I was also very much surprised that the lead designer of the Quest for Glory series is a woman as well. :) Although in fairness, Quest for Glory is the brainchild of both Lori Ann and Corey Cole, and they worked on all five games together. ^^
