King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest for Glory, and Police Quest series, as well as many other Activision classics, 60% off! Any Questions?

Nowadays, hearing the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> your mind will probably follow the train of thought inevitably leading to the realms of role-playing games. But 20 years ago? In the 1990s, when <i>Sierra Online</i> was the towering mountain in the landscape of game development, the word <span class="bold">"quest"</span> was almost synonymous with an adventure game. Last week we did celebrate the fact that point-and-click adventure genre is doing almost as well as in the good old days. Today, we take a look back at the best that said good old days had to offer. Retrogamers, rejoice! For we give you the [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/activision_weekend_promo_170114]Winter Quest Fest, with all the quest titles form the GOG.com classic catalog, as well as many other memorable titles from the nostalgic treasure chest that is Activision catalog, with a substantial 60% off discount! Let's take a closer look at one of the adventures that await you, shall we?

Quest for Glory 1-5 is an amazing collection of Sierra's innovative action-RPGs. Each of the five games can be played as a whole but you can also treat the series as one big adventure, as the character and his accumulated wealth can carry on from one game into another. Become a mage, a thief, or a knight and explore the five huge worlds, each based on a different culture and mythology, from Germanic fairy tales, through Arabian and Slavic folklore, right down to Greek myths. Experience the game that set many standards in the "new school" of computer RPG. All that, for a mere $3.99. Let our user Rambutaan tell you a little more about that timeless gem!

Rambutaan's GOGgame Story: Quest for Glory

Note, that the game featured by Rambutaan is the EGA original Quest for Glory, but you get both this and the updated VGA version in our package. Another classic quest series--the one that started it all, in fact--is the long-lived saga known as King's Quest (available in thee packs King's Quest 1+2+3, King's Quest 4+5+6, and King's Quest 7+8, for $3.99 each). Let the classic gaming paladin, our user Rknight718 tell you more about his favorite, King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human!

Rknight718's GOGGame Story: King's Quest 3

Feeling a little hobbity, not in the mood for an adventure? No problem! There's a ton of other games--action games, strategy games, driving games, and whatnot-- in our promo page. All of them available 60% off, until Tuesday, January 21, at 4:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

Andanzas: What is Call to Power 2 learning curve like for a Civ player?

Now that I have a baby at home, I only have the energy to play the simplest games... When I have the energy to play, that is. :p
It's extremely similar to Civ 2 and Civ 3 and you'll have no problems in achieving something. To win you'll have to play through one or two times. And Civ games are generally not the simplest games, being grand strategy and everything.

Not sure how much fun it is nowadays but I remember it being much fun back then. Biggest different to Civ series is that you have armies and that they fight togehter. Just start with a scenario like "Alexander Great" and build units in all your cities and try to conquer some other cities for the beginning. Should be easy enough.
Weird, some ancient or mediocre titles cost more\same than newer or better games (ex: zork1-3 vs zork5-6, kq1-3 vs kq4-6, pharaoh vs caesar3, phantasmagoria vs gabriel knight, etc)
its very well possible to choose something. at first goes bright matter - betrayal at krondor. the game that wasn't just on best reviews (but still good ones) about its distant release and which gained its excelent reputaion just during the time followed up.

so i'm really not sure if i will like it or not thats why i consider the chance to buy it in discount offer as attractive and wellcomed :-)

maybe with some building strategy which i love but have too little time for it...

fronzelneekburm: Already got all the Sierra classics. I've said it before, but I really hope to see some of the lesser known Sierra titles on gog in the near future, especially Freddy Pharkas, Shivers, Hunter Hunted, Harvest Of Souls, the Laura Bow and Eco Quest series, Lighthouse, 3D Ultra Pinball,... and of course the SQ 1/KQ 1-versions mentioned above.
True that. I'd like to believe this sale is indicative that more Activision games will be appearing in the coming weeks (we haven't seen any new ones in over a year, I believe), but I dunno.

I tweeted Activision Support a few times - https://twitter.com/ATVIAssist - about games like Freddy Pharkas coming to GOG. You might consider doing so also.

G-Doc: Gotcha! I thought you might have had that in mind, but I wanted to make sure. No, sadly these versions aren't available on GOG.com - at least now. Should that change, we'll surely post an update news post.

lugum: Because they are not available to GOG or other reasons? i know some are "rare" and harder to get.
The way publication and distribution rights work you might find it is a different company that holds the rights to that specific version than the DOS one they have ...

Similarly although I'd love them to do amiga games (emulated with winuae similar to the way they use dosbox and scummvm) trying to find the correct rights holder and negotiate an agreement might be excruciatingly painful if not impossible.

Could very well be the case, but all those other versions where also made by sierra if i am not mistaken. Would make it strange if those rights belonged to someone else.
I know some versions were/are hard to find.
Think I shall have to pick up Quest for Glory at long last. Some nice titles here, covers a good range.

Rama would also be interesting to see here, but since that one's based on a novel, I figure that the rights situation might be a bitch to sort out.
Agreed, particularly about Lighthouse. I too believe that Rama might be difficult to secure due to associated licensing. The same is probably keeping the Trillium/Telarium games from re-release (they did several based on sci-fi/fantasy novels, including a Rama title of their own). A shame, as it would be so nice to have the game versions of Fahrenheit 451 and Nine Princes in Amber here too.
Balls! How will I ever be able to play all these games? Could someone please add a couple of hours to a day and prolong the average human life span.
Clearly Sierra (/Activision) are unwilling to license any of their titles for OS X. So as much as I'd like to play many of these games, they get nothing from me :(
How is SWAT 3?

Same here..but maybe our wishes will be granted?

Some nice games from my buy if cheap list in this promo.

undeadcow: How is SWAT 3?
It looks GREAT but it's more tactical than I thought it might be. You actually tend to stay more or less in one place while you order your groups around. A lot of "Red Team take the Stairs"....."Blue Team cover the back". If you want a balls to the wall action shooter this is NOT the game for you but if you want the thrill of being a squad commander I recommend it.
Nice promo. Interestingly the Activision catalog was also on sale during November. So it seems earlier than normal for a publisher promo to repeat (not that I am complaining, of course). Just a random thought I had!

I also like the use of GOGgame stories. This could be an interesting feature to have for future promos.
SWAT 3 is one of my favorites in the whole PQ and SWAT series lines. Good level design, interesting mission objectives, promotes non-violent approach to just going in and killing all bad guys. The story? Was there much of a story could have been better, but otherwise its quite interesting and fun game.

Still hoping GOG can release SWAT 4 at some point.

Thanks for your answer. I took a look at a gameplay video and it does remind me a lot of Civ 3. It should be fun.
