Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm S2, and other War & Strategy games 60% off

This weekend, our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/back_in_the_ussr_weekend_promo_16_11_12]"USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo storms your screens with a tactical advantage of a 60% discount! GOG.com HQ has planned this sudden strike for weeks, and to ensure a totall victory we've allied with the Russians, and former Soviet republics. After all, it worked like a charm during the final days of World War II, and those developers and publishers excel in strategy and war games. Let's not waste time here and see what arrived in the reinforcements package from Russia (and former Soviet republics), with love.

For air support, we've got Il-2 Sturmovik, a highly praised title coming from the (sadly) almost extinct breed of realistic military aircraft simulations). Armchair generals will be extremely satisfied with Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology--two feature-full RTS titles taking the realistic and historically accurate approach to the famous campaigns of World War II. Or if you like something less serious, but maybe even more challenging, try S2: Silent Storm Gold--a complex turn based strategy set in an alternative time-line, where the German Nazis excelled in technological advancement.

We're also happy to announce, that and [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/soldiers_heroes_of_world_war_ii]Soldiers: Heroes of World War II--two games that gone MIA for a little while--have made their way back safely into GOG.com catalog, and are reporting for active duty. Just in time for the promo!

Do you doubt the military (gaming) potential of Eastern Europe? Head out to our our "USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo page to see at least 17 titles proving that it should not be taken lightly!

Last, but not least--here's our video summary of the week. In case you missed it, here's what's new!

cich: So I saw the title of the promo and I went here all excited thinking Original War will surely be a part of this. And it's not. And I'm a sad panda. A very sad panda. Come on, gogsters, Original War doesn't seem to get any discounts in here, even though it's a cool game!
Exactly!

And Original War suits this promotion USSR theme pretty well...
Never replaced Cryostasis after selling all my boxed games so I guess I will do that. The rest aren't my thing, not a strategy gamer really outside of some tactical RPGs and Civilization.
Now! Release *hint* Sudden Strike Universe + Cold War Conflicts *hint*!!!11!1

Thank you as always.
Cossacks is my favorite on promo. I've been secured before Perimeter and Soldiers. Good to see they're back. Any news from Second Sight?

Especially CWC, because it was never released in Poland.

I got excited for this sale, becuase I like Strategy games, and have in particular been wanting to try a new RTS game.

So, I was looking at titles like the Blitzkrieg games, and the Cossack Anthology, and I was wondering...Are these games at all similar to games like Age of Empires or Rise of Nations? These are the RTS games I've played in the past, and unless these GOG games will provide me a similar experience, I don't want to spend money on them.

Thanks!

The Blitzkrieg games have nothing in common with Age of Empires. You get all the units you have in the beginning of each map, and you have to defeat the enemy troops. It's all about the battle, and using proper tactics. The game is very realistic, and I highly recommend it.

Also, I suggest you buy Perimeter, because it's a very original game. Each player gets his own city, and each city has a perimeter(that's where the name comes from) which is essentially an impenetrable barrier that you can turn on and off at will, provided you have the necessary energy. It's quite unique in terms of gameplay, don't know any other game with similar gameplay.

Cossacks is probably the closest thing to Age of Empires from the promo, but it has many differences, including the huge number of units you can control at the same time(thousands of them).

Heroes of Annihilated Empires tries to be a mix between Cossacks and Warcraft III(it's made by the same studio that made Cossacks) but I found it boring.
Does anyone know it the GOG version of American Conquest will work with an SLI card? I use to have to disable the SLI on my Nvidia card to play this game on the CD version. Since I installed new drivers, I am unable to disable SLI. Has anyone tried it with SLI enabled?
Got Cossacks and Etherlords. Left Blitzkrieg, the AI seems too weak. You should get the Steel Panther games, although you can get SP World at War free.
Here's hoping that GOG can get the remaining removed games back. Also, more titles from GSC, plz.

by the by, there is no link to the "This week on GOG" video.

Absolutely no time for 'em, but bought Blitzkrieg Anthology and S2: Silent Storm Gold.
Damn, I knew I should have cancelled my LOTRO subscription. :( Well, no Cryostasis for me now...
S2 and Cossacks for me this time around. Not sure about Cossacks, but I watched an LP and it looks interesting to me. Picking up Shadow Warrior as well. Was hard to pass that one up as I've been wanting it for awhile.

DaCostaBR: To everyone else, is King's Bounty worth it when I already have Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and haven't gotten around to it yet?

grviper: If you get easily annoyed watching the same unskippable summoning animations 50 times even sped up, dealing with fetch quests that send you several times across the map and a few loading screens, and the visual design of the map that sometimes makes it unclear, which areas are walkable and which are walls, then you might not enjoy KB quite as much as other people.
This is why I qualified my recommendation based on whether you love the HoMM combat system. People seem to have a love/hate relationship with it. Personally, I love how it rewards clever use of spells to overcome forces much greater than your own. In fact, in King's Bounty, I played a good chunk of the end game with only one unit in my army (a single black dragon), and used spells to destroy the enemy.

Just curious, how is the latest expansion in LOTRO? I used to play LOTRO, but canceled before the latest expansion (didn't feel like spending $70 for it).
