Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm S2, and other War & Strategy games 60% off

This weekend, our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/back_in_the_ussr_weekend_promo_16_11_12]"USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo storms your screens with a tactical advantage of a 60% discount! GOG.com HQ has planned this sudden strike for weeks, and to ensure a totall victory we've allied with the Russians, and former Soviet republics. After all, it worked like a charm during the final days of World War II, and those developers and publishers excel in strategy and war games. Let's not waste time here and see what arrived in the reinforcements package from Russia (and former Soviet republics), with love.

For air support, we've got Il-2 Sturmovik, a highly praised title coming from the (sadly) almost extinct breed of realistic military aircraft simulations). Armchair generals will be extremely satisfied with Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology--two feature-full RTS titles taking the realistic and historically accurate approach to the famous campaigns of World War II. Or if you like something less serious, but maybe even more challenging, try S2: Silent Storm Gold--a complex turn based strategy set in an alternative time-line, where the German Nazis excelled in technological advancement.

We're also happy to announce, that and [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/soldiers_heroes_of_world_war_ii]Soldiers: Heroes of World War II--two games that gone MIA for a little while--have made their way back safely into GOG.com catalog, and are reporting for active duty. Just in time for the promo!

Do you doubt the military (gaming) potential of Eastern Europe? Head out to our our "USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo page to see at least 17 titles proving that it should not be taken lightly!

Last, but not least--here's our video summary of the week. In case you missed it, here's what's new!

I ended up picking up Etherlords. I've played it years ago and remember it to be hard but rewarding. It seems that Cossacks, American Conquest and Heroes of Annihilated Empires may remotely interest me but... I'm not really into RTS anymore and I definitely don't like +1000 unites on the battlefield.
Three unrelated thoughts: Etherlords looks interesting, and I'll try it for this price. I feel that putting Cryostasis into a "War and Strategy game" bundle is stretching things. Glad to hear that we're getting another vanished game back again!

F4LL0UT: I think the "USSR" theme refers to the devs featured in this promo being located in former Eastern Block countries. Hind was developed by a British company.

TheEnigmaticT: This is, indeed, the case.
We're pretty much as bad off, if not worse than, many Eastern European countries these days. Stick it in!

Oh my... I bit for Descent 3 and Lionheart and now I'm feeling tempted to bite for Silent Storm and Heroes of Annihilated Empires and maybe Blitzkrieg. I have enough games, why do I keep reaching for my credit card?
Not a half-bad promo. King's Bounty is one I'll definitely pick up but a few of the others look pretty good too.

Also, to re-enforce what was said earlier: force whoever owns Freedom Fighters to get it on GOG! Such an amazing game. Actually designing a game for my University course that's strongly inspired by it. It's a real shame that it never saw a sequel but maybe IO Interactive will get around to making another some day. But, yeah, get it here eventually, I beg of thee, and preferably with Jesper Kyd's amazing soundtrack.

I personally didn't really like HOAE but definitely flip a coin for SS and Blitzkrieg, both are great
Well, that put a dent in my wishlist!

Huh. Now you'll get me reading reviews and watching let's play videos just to check if I like it. Not that I doubt your taste but people like different things. I bumped Perimeter off to put HoAE in, but that one is also on the read-reviews/check-videos list.

I played a demo of SS a long time ago and that one's going in the cart for certain.
When was Cryostasis a war or a strategy game? XD Nice promo anyway. Not sure theres anything I really really want sadly.

Well, you play a Soviet... don't you? Loosely Cold War, I guess.
Had almost all of these, lol. Buttttt, still picked up 3 I didn't have : S2 SSG, BK2 Anth, and Etherlords.

ShadowWulfe: Been waiting for Star Wolves!
Loved Starwolves, and you probably will too, if you like games like Homeworld, and to an extent Freelancer. After you have played it, I highly recommend picking up Starwolves 3 (don't bother with SW2, it's a bloodly mess unfortunately). SW3 takes everything from SW(1) and makes it all more fun and interesting..much larger universe, hell of a lot more ships/weapons/systems, more branching plot-lines and endings, and a heck of a lot more freedom to go off exploring, grinding, and even finding "hidden caches" with great loot! (much like Freelancer) There are a couple script errors in the game, and the current official patch actually breaks the game as it is...but fortunately, on the 1C Starwolves forum there is a fix for the update, and player made fixes that take care of all that. There are also a few really cool player made mods for the game on there as well. SW3 now ranks right up there among my favorite Space Strategy games like SWTS (1), Sins, GalCiv2, Homeworld 2 and Freelancer. Definitely recommend playing SW1 first though...get a good feel for the gameplay, and plot, and characters...then go enjoy SW3, and smile ;-).

Would be nice to SW3 show up here on GOG...a great follow up for SW(1) fans

Zoltan999:
I love space operas/sims. My backlog is so long that by the time I finish SW1, SW3 will likely have been released on GOG. Though SW1 might get bumped up the list...
Phew! After that purchase I thought I would have nothing left on my wishlist...
...just checked, still plently of games on there! :)

Thanks GOG, great promo.
Where, where, where Russian language packs?!?
The title of the thread/announcement scared me for a moment. I almost went into my bunker.
