Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm S2, and other War & Strategy games 60% off

This weekend, our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/back_in_the_ussr_weekend_promo_16_11_12]"USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo storms your screens with a tactical advantage of a 60% discount! GOG.com HQ has planned this sudden strike for weeks, and to ensure a totall victory we've allied with the Russians, and former Soviet republics. After all, it worked like a charm during the final days of World War II, and those developers and publishers excel in strategy and war games. Let's not waste time here and see what arrived in the reinforcements package from Russia (and former Soviet republics), with love.

For air support, we've got Il-2 Sturmovik, a highly praised title coming from the (sadly) almost extinct breed of realistic military aircraft simulations). Armchair generals will be extremely satisfied with Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology--two feature-full RTS titles taking the realistic and historically accurate approach to the famous campaigns of World War II. Or if you like something less serious, but maybe even more challenging, try S2: Silent Storm Gold--a complex turn based strategy set in an alternative time-line, where the German Nazis excelled in technological advancement.

We're also happy to announce, that and [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/soldiers_heroes_of_world_war_ii]Soldiers: Heroes of World War II--two games that gone MIA for a little while--have made their way back safely into GOG.com catalog, and are reporting for active duty. Just in time for the promo!

Do you doubt the military (gaming) potential of Eastern Europe? Head out to our our "USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo page to see at least 17 titles proving that it should not be taken lightly!

Last, but not least--here's our video summary of the week. In case you missed it, here's what's new!

SCPM: Anyone have any ideas what the upcoming game they hinted about in the video is?
Yes. I do.

Since I recorded the voice over and everything. >.>

It's just the question of listing the many games, besides Victoria, that featured spheres of influence.
Blitzkrieg Anthology, Fantasy Wars and Star Wolves my picks. Anything else worth getting? How's the UFO games?

As long as you are not expecting X-Com, they are good. Real Time with Pause, some customization, and a bit of mod support. AfterMath (the first one) is the most barebones, so I wouldn't suggest it, AfterShock is the better balanced one, concerning stuff you have to do and enjoyment, AfterLight is the one with the most stuff to do, though I found them a bit overwhelming at times. As I said before, be sure to pay a visit to StrategyCore for quite a few mods.

SimonG: Dreadfull DRM, shitty regional versions, restrictive contracts, etc ...
As opposed to the dreadful DRM and shitty regional versions of present-day gaming?
Great, another sale! Time for hours and hours of research.

I like uPlay. And the regional restrictions of Steam games are far and few between. I buy 90% of my Steam games on Amazon.com.

And unlike disc based DRM, neither Steam, uPlay or any other DD DRM ever affected usability of my DVD drive.
Pretty sure I'll grab S2: Silent Storm Gold, kinda meh on the rest though.
I really don't like the music in the video. Reminds of some porno intro. I think the vids would be much better if the music somehow reflected the content, it would keep people more interested and even excited at times. You know, for example Shadow Warrior didn't seem half as badass as it is without its awesome main theme or at least some fast and strong music.

And as for the promo: epic. Will definitely grab a game or two. But sadly the "USSR attacks" thing made me think of several games that aren't on GOG yet such as Freedom Fighters, World in Conflict and the Red Alert series. :P

Finally a sale in which I'm not interested in any of the games. *rubs ointment on bank account*

Grab Cossacks if you got the extra bucks for it, one of the best games from GSC
Great sale! I picked up all of them but three. How the heck am I ever going to find time to play them all? Holy crap!

But only in skirmish. I used to play the game a lot in skirmish mode and over LAN ages ago, had a lot of fun playing it against my brother and some friends but when I recently tried playing the campaign "for serious" for the first time I was just shocked how badly designed and scripted it is. It made me understand why so many people dislike Cossacks. :P

Fantasy Wars is in the Build a Bundle 4 atm ($0.75), unless you're particular about a GOG version.

Shame this sale came after they removed Space Rangers 2 Reboot (removed everywhere now it seems). Still, games like Kings Bounty, S2, UFO, Star Wolves are certainly nice to see on sale :) (haven't played some yet though :/)

Makes me glad I picked up both of the Space Rangers games while they were on previous promos, I definitely did not see that removal coming
