Il-2 Sturmovik, Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm S2, and other War & Strategy games 60% off

This weekend, our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/back_in_the_ussr_weekend_promo_16_11_12]"USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo storms your screens with a tactical advantage of a 60% discount! GOG.com HQ has planned this sudden strike for weeks, and to ensure a totall victory we've allied with the Russians, and former Soviet republics. After all, it worked like a charm during the final days of World War II, and those developers and publishers excel in strategy and war games. Let's not waste time here and see what arrived in the reinforcements package from Russia (and former Soviet republics), with love.

For air support, we've got Il-2 Sturmovik, a highly praised title coming from the (sadly) almost extinct breed of realistic military aircraft simulations). Armchair generals will be extremely satisfied with Blitzkrieg Anthology and Blitzkrieg 2 Anthology--two feature-full RTS titles taking the realistic and historically accurate approach to the famous campaigns of World War II. Or if you like something less serious, but maybe even more challenging, try S2: Silent Storm Gold--a complex turn based strategy set in an alternative time-line, where the German Nazis excelled in technological advancement.

We're also happy to announce, that and [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/soldiers_heroes_of_world_war_ii]Soldiers: Heroes of World War II--two games that gone MIA for a little while--have made their way back safely into GOG.com catalog, and are reporting for active duty. Just in time for the promo!

Do you doubt the military (gaming) potential of Eastern Europe? Head out to our our "USSR Invades! War & Strategy Games" promo page to see at least 17 titles proving that it should not be taken lightly!

Last, but not least--here's our video summary of the week. In case you missed it, here's what's new!

Duskwolf: Just curious, how is the latest expansion in LOTRO? I used to play LOTRO, but canceled before the latest expansion (didn't feel like spending $70 for it).
Ah, sorry, I cannot really provide you with info about Riders of Rohan, I am still at the beginning of Mines of Moria. :) Have only been playing for two months and I am not the powerleveler type, spend most of my time RP-ing. xD It is a great game though, but as one can play for free, subscription isn't really needed in cases like mine, when you don't want to be a top player, zooming through all the content as fast as you can.
What exactly kind of RTS is Blitzkrieg? As far as WW2 RTSs go, I'm familiar with Company of Heroes and Men of War.

S2 looks like a strange TBS, how awesome is it? as good as XCOM?

Also, how's King's Bounty? Looks interesting.

Can't comment on S2, as I've not played it (just got it through a trade). I've also not played Blitzkrieg, but I've played other games that are supposed to be similar, using the same engine. It is a rather detailed RTT, closer to Men of War than Company of Heroes, but on a slightly larger scale.

King's bounty is also quite nice. A bit on the repetitive side, but you get a lot of game for your money, and it is well done. Imagine Heroes of Might & Magic but instead of the overworld where you capture cities and take resources, you have an RPG (King's Bounty is by the way a remake/sequel to the game that most people view as the predecessor to Heroes of Might & Magic)

I hear you. My favorite part of most MMO's is also the leveling. :) Once I hit max level, and the game becomes grinding the same stuff over and over, I get bored and quit. The only MMO that ever kept my interest at maximum level was DAOC. I just loved the pvp in that game. I have high hopes for the Elder Scrolls Online. Like DAOC, it will also have 3 factions (so much more interesting than 2!) and a massive, non-instanced open RvR zone with siegable castles. The makers of Elder Scrolls Online also claim they will be able to support 100's of people on screen at the same time, something I have not seen done successfully since DAOC either.
How replayable is S2? What about King's Bounty?
GASP! I'm on to you, commies!
I always knew this was comming since we were first warned:

I like the hell out of King's Bounty. As far as S2; watch this. Reminds me alot of JA.

There are 3 different character classes to play in King's Bounty, plus the location and type of mobs, troops for hire, and treasure is somewhat randomized each game.

Does S2 have a skirmish mode or randomly generated maps or something? It looks great, but if it only has its campaigns, well, I dunno.

It has generic "random battles" outside of the plot, and the story assignments are not exactly linear.
It also has very bad endgame equipment, which ruins the entire tactical side of the gameplay. Roughly imagine JA2 culminating in battles between wild cats with the hitpoint count of alien bugs, armed with rocket rifles and mortars. That how utterly broken the diesel power armor is in S2.
I finally nabbed myself Etherlords. Quite enjoyable so far.

King's Bounty has a decent amount of replay value, as you have 3 different classes offering different playstyles (at least a bit later into the game at least). But it is a 50+h game, so even if you only play it once, you get your moneys worth out of it.
Thanks for your answer eveyone, I'll probably be getting King's Bounty and S2
Thanks, gOg, for the big sale on a couple games I've been waiting to toss into the backlog closet! Keep 'em coming.
I was going to pick up Etherlords, but the demo constantly crashes and based on the forums so does GOG's version.
