Get Thief, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Soul Reaver, and more Square Enix titles 50% off!

If you read the tagline, what more is there really to add? Our [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/square_enix_weekend_promo_080213]Ultimate Square Enix promo offers you the chance to get games from some of the most exciting series with a nice 50% off discount. Square Enix catalog features some of the most impressive gems in the GOG.com offer. Titles that evoke memories and emotions in thousands and thousands of gamers. The character cast of the Square Enix stable alone is impressive enough to make one's heart race. If GOG.com had a red carpet, celebrities such as Lara Croft, Garret the Master Thief, Agent 47, Kain and Raziel, and JC Denton would arrive to walk it on a limousine marked by Square Enix logo. Let's take a quick look at the featured games, shall we?

Lara Croft is the ever-shining star of the Tomb Raider series. Lately her character has undergone some major changes. Here, we give you a chance to spend some quality time with good--erm--classic Lara. Tomb Raider 1+2+3, Tomb Raider: Last Revelation + Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness sum up all of the miss Croft's early career, for only $4.99 each!

Yet another hero who is a fan of property re-assignment concept, Garret the Thief is now preparing a big return. On GOG.com you can catch up wit all of his adventures, as long as you can keep up with him, as he silently moves through the shadows. Thief Gold, Thief 2: The Metal Age, and Thief 3: The Deadly Shadows let you experience the life of a thievery archmaster, for only $4.99 each!

Also preferring to keep a low-profile, Agent 47 is the main character of the Hitman series. The newest game featuring the bald assassin brought a lot of new ideas to the table, and not all of them met with gamers' appreciation. We give you first two classic Hitman games: Hitman: Codename 47 for only $2.99 and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, for only $4.99!

That's only a small taste of the Square Enix title you can get 50% off this weekend. Head out to our Ultimate Square Enix promo page, to check out the whole offer!

Below, you'll find a new episode of This Week on GOG, a short video guide to recent events, promos, and other happenings on the site. By the way, if you haven't already, you might want to follow the GOG.com channel on Youtube, so you won't miss our shows, specials, and exclusive trailers.

Iain: I was up to 1am last night to try and stop the spinning. Unfortunately didn't manage it. The problem lies with the game having the joypad enabled all the time so you can swap control schemes on the fly. If you could enable and disable the pad in the options and set to just keyboard then it would be fine.

I tried deleting all the joypad stuff in the 2 config files but no luck, also tried changing all the joypad keys to unused but still the spinning. Even tried changing the deadzone on the profile in XPadder to maximum but it still won't work. I will keep looking for a solution and if I find one will post it up.
I see, thanks for the confirmation. Maybe i'll try plugging my cheap generic USB controller, and see if that works.
i'm thinking about getting the first 3 tomb raider games (1+2+3), but i wonder if it also includes the expansions.
Could anyone clarify that?

Useful thread: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_games_missing_content_broken_games_incomplete_version_variations_etc/post2

So, apparently the first 2 are missing the expansions.
What I think at the very least should have been done was to move the discussion unrelated to the promo to another thread and let people continue the debate there.

Prior to what I write, it is not my intention to argue or even bicker on forums, which I tend to avoid as it is time consuming and more often than not counterproductive, but to contribute my opinion.

While gameon's post is out of place and may be perceived as a bait, Licurg's response is what makes it a provocation and not vice versa. That said, if I understand his intention correctly, gameon did give a very valid point; frequently responding with "Buy Sacrifice!" at random in unrelated threads is disruptive posting, which technically is a spam. What can be seen in kromcita's post; which are but examples, there is much more; are all indicators of behaviour with various degrees of inadequacy, from inappropriate to very problematic.

In my opinion, the disposition GOG staff has towards moderation is not suitable to the circumstances, that is to requirements of internet forum. The purpose of moderation is to offer as user-friendly environment as possible to the majority. If it is too heavy, it can dissuade the people from participating, however if it is too light, things can and will escalate to a degree most will not be comfortable with. If moderation is appropriate, for which you need a capable people, it will in long term lift the quality of debating and discussing to a higher level.

As otherwise in life situations, intervening with a concrete action is sometimes necessary.

RevGalen: Before the sale is over I want to try one of the Tomb Raider games. I've never played one of those. Anyone care to recommend which one to try first? How about "The Last Revelation"?
If you have never played any before then my suggestion would be the first 3. Although the Last Revelation is a fantastic game and can stand on its' own without any problem, the first three games have the largest amount of growth between them and have strong stories that take you through the game without you feeling a slump half way.
LR is far more polished in its appearance, goes back to her beginnings and is defiantly enjoyable so worth playing as is Chronicles.
The only one I would avoid is Angel of Darkness because it is the first part of an unfinished trilogy with many things left unfinished which is a real shame. The game itself is missing large chunks of story, which by the end leave AoD as a broken, yet very playable game.
So for the price of 1 game I would suggest the first 5 games to play if you are interested in Tomb Raider.
A small side note though is the Gold additions from the first three are missing right now, but they do not detract from the main games so still go for them.

PenutBrittle: To clarify: gameon likely doesn't have paranoia. He once said in a post that he was paranoid the GOG staff had missed his message, which TET apparently decided to extrapolate on. And no, you're right, TET wasn't making fun of mental illness. He was, however, being extraordinarily patronizing, insulting and demeaning, which for me is inexcusable.
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: I wasn't trying for patronizing, actually. I read a lot more threads than I comment on, and I have seen gameon mention in more than a few places that he has mental and social issues. It is possible to me that if he legitimately means it when he has posted about these disabilities that he literally doesn't know that Licurg's threats are empty. As such, speaking in a clear and unambiguous tone is not patronizing, it is informative. It is possible I'm wrong in my approach here. I'm as human as anyone, and just as prone to error as the rest of us.

Should Licurg make empty threats? No. Have I told Licurg this? Yes. If gameon had conducted his, "I am disgusted with you and GOG" discussion via PM with me, I"d be happy to keep the conversation there, but it seemed that he wanted it public.

Harassment requires a pattern of repeated intimidating or unwanted behavior. Twice over three months is not a pattern, although Licurg telling people that he wants to kill them isn't funny and isn't appropriate. Being told so by a mod should, generally, settle the issue. If Licurg makes a habit of repeatedly being hostile to users and is reported frequently, then further action may, indeed, be appropriate.

I'm not dismissive of handicaps or of mental illness; as someone born with profound hearing loss, I understand that life is harder when you're disabled than when you're not. That said, I also believe that if you want to engage in the majority community, you pretty much have to play by the same rules the rest of us do because you don't get much of a life otherwise. I could stick to sign language as my main language, but then life's options would be pretty crappy for me, since the majority community doesn't speak that one. Likewise, realizing that someone's puerile and unfunny insult isn't an actual death threat is pretty important if someone is going to make his or her way through any large online community.

There are millions of people who use GOG each month; it is impossible to moderate for each of their wants or needs. I--as any moderator in a large community like this must--look for truly egregious examples of abuse, harassment, hate speech, or otherwise objectionable speech and swat at those; the remainder--the stupid, the tactless, the misinterpreted, and the borderline cases--are generally either ignored or set in a bin of "monitor but don't act yet." In this case, the appropriate action seemed to fall more in the latter than the former, and I took the action that seemed appropriate. Namely, I warned Licurg.

Hopefully, you guys understand my point of view, here. If not, well, sorry to have let you down, but I'm not sure what else I could have done here except ignore the issue entirely.
No matter what happens i myself believe that there is no need for any of this nonsense! and if you knew this guy you would understand how he actually feels... well i know him and i am absolutely disgusted by all these stupid and careless replies, it is not an issue to be ignored! i am absolutely fed up with people who cannot keep their sick thoughts to themselves..... Yes as you said you dont know him in particular but you have no idea how much a stupid little comment can mean to him.....and people are continually picking on him for no reason whatsoever it is absolutely unnecessary. if you cannot take this issue seriously then i pity you.

and you can rate me as low as you like, i do not care. i do not aim to be a 100 star noob.

Thanks. I'll buy the first three then and when I play them I'll begin with the 1st one.

While i believe he already mentioned it couple of time ago (about his condition), but sorry to say if that's the case, i believe it's time for the guy to stop visiting the internet or the forum for a while. If it starting to affect him and other people in negative way, i believe that's the best thing to do at the moment. Maybe you can help him with that.

I do not have time to tolerate nastiness whatsoever... he is my brother actually so i should understand his feelings and yes they were hurt, i read through all the thread and thought that everything that was said was highly unecessary, ok youd probably tell me not to get invoved, but so what... he is my family and i will no way stand for it! at all....

If I may jump in for a sec. I've been a TR junkie from day one and played them all up to underworld dozens and dozens and dozens of times. Take the following link and bookmark it. Regardless of if you feel you do or do not need it right now, it is THE BEST TR site on the planet offering every possible patch, walkthrough, bonus, yadda yadda yadda known. It also gives a tidy review of the entire series. Like 011284 said, play them in order, but I would only recommend skipping AOD if you DID NOT adore the others. By this I mean that its got some nasty rough spots and some control issues that a TR freak like myself can overlook but not so much just a casual fan.

Here is that link! Happy hunting...or raiding. :P

You are a good brother, and gameon is a great guy, but nothing was anything until everyone else jumped in and spouted.

Just normal crap, no malicious intent, that got out of hand.

I'm no diplomat, but know both principals, somewhat, and both are ok.

Please give him my best, and relate to him that there is nothing wrong with saying "piss on the world," when needed.

Edit to add: Figuratively speaking, of course.

Apologize for the gender confusion, but spoken as well as any man.

My best to you "guys."

You'll both be fine imo, just watch out for the pack mentality, not that I saw it here. Even lions fall to jackals. :-) tc
