Psyringe: Yep. Some people prefer the first two games, which were simpler. Some prefer HoMM5, which has better graphics. Practically nobody prefers HoMM4. But many players prefer HoMM3, and even the ones that don't, will usually agree that HoMM3 was a pretty good game.
Thank you sir.

StingingVelvet: Okay so, never played any of them... started RPGing in 1997... which Might and Magic should I get? Don't say V, I'm on a laptop right now.

Psyringe: Since you're talking about V, it seems that mean the "Heroes of Might and Magic" series, i.e. the strategy games. In that case, HoMM3 is usually seen as the pinnacle of the series. The first two games are simpler and have less content, the fourth one was a botched release that was salvaged only partly later on. If you're talking about the RPG's, then - if pixelated graphics don't deter you - I'd get the MM1-6 collection. The later games have better graphics, but the games from 3-6 have the core gameplay that's the hallmark of the series. Skip the first two games though, they are just of historical interest.
This man knows what he is talking about...
Ouch, I can only afford one thing thanks to PE closing soon. It seems like M&M 7 is considered the best, but would it best to pick up the 6-pack because of how many games it comes with? I'll have to pass up HOMM3 for now.
Addendum: Also, on top of the huge amount of content that Homm3 has to offer - if you ever think you've seen all of it (and that will take a while), you can install WoG (Wake of Gods), a massive mod that makes a ton of additions to gameplay. Or look for the ERA mod which _seems_ to be replacing it.

There's also a widescreen mod, which allows you to utilize the full screen. You can also set the game to higher resolutions, which makes the main map look much better, though the battle screens suffer a bit in usability. Might be worth a look.

And finally, if you have the assets from the original game, you can run VCMI, an open-source replacement for HoMM3's game engine. It's far from complete yet, but it's improving steadily over the years, and it promises to eventually break the limits imposed by the original engine. If it ever comes that far, then expect a wave of new high-quality mods and additions.

You should be able to find information on all of the projects I mentioned (and several more) here: Heroes Community
Great promo with an excellent section of games.

M&M 6 is the only M&M I've played so far, and it is very good.

MM7 is better in terms of class differences, but if you want general badassery MM6 is the way to go. By the end you'll be summoning fiery meteors from the sky and gunning orcs down with laser rifles.

That does sound pretty awesome. Plus, 6 games for 4 bucks is a pretty awesome offer. How're 4 and 5, I hear they link up? Should I play them or 6 first?

I'd go with MM1-6 as well, especially when your budget is tight. MM7 _might_ be better, but MM3-6 are still pretty good, and it's simply much more content per dollar spent.

MM4 and MM5 link together to one massive world. It was pretty spectacular when the games were released. From today's perspective, it probably doesn't feel as large, because you can't walk around seamlessly. You walk in steps, and can turn by 90 degrees, and you can't see very far. But the connected world _is_ very large.

Basically, you can start with 3, 4/5, or 6. The stories are only loosely connected. All the games have the hallmark M&M gameplay: You start as a group of rookies, and you'll continually build up your abilities and your gear until you're able to fight not just mighty mythical beasts, but robots as well (there's traditionally some sci-fi stuff in the M&M high level areas). One thing that M&M always did very well is that it continually provided rewards along that journey, you'll always feel that you're improving, you'll always find interesting loot, etc.
Damn. The only Ubisoft game that I don't have already that I'd like is missing from the promo. :(
GNAAAA!

Talking about Might & Magic and HoMM has made me look up the news from the HoMM3 modding community. I find that an interesting project has updated and looks pretty interesting now, but it requires a clean install of the game. And since I'm too lazy to fiddle around with the discs and a multiple-step install process, I end up buying tha game from the promo even though it costs more than I was originally willing to pay for it.

This thread is costing me money!! ;)

Bingo. The games do not coddle or limit you either. You can very easily walk into areas where creatures exist that are way too tough for your party at the time. What fun though is wandering into those areas, getting your butt kicked, escaping, then coming back later with more experience and better weapons and kicking tail yourself. It can be *very* rewarding.
what a promo, finally i will have legal copies of HoMM -_-
HoMM 2 cost like starting from 50 usd on ebay behehe

yyahoo: You can very easily walk into areas where creatures exist that are way too tough for your party at the time.
I was warned not to open a particular door in MM4 because "there are young knights there, and those dudes are tough". So I think, I've been killing everything in the region with ease, and a bunch of novice tin cans doesn't sound all that dangerous. I open the door, out comes a single Yang Knight, whoosh whoosh, the party's dead.
"You should've told me how that damn mob's name is spelled!"
"Dude, I told you to save."
Good promo, just nothing here for me as I already have the ones I want.
