Gazoinks: So it's a case of "Not as much of a betrayal as everyone says, but it just doesn't stack up to the rest"?
M&M started rolling downhill with 8, where they compensated for derelict graphics engine by giving you an opportunity to have an overpowered dragon for every side character in your party, with free flight and other funny things. M&M9 suffered both from being a rushed air bubble escaping from the lungs of drowning 3DO, and from using early Lithtech - that engine by Monolith, which didn't look like shit only in Monolith's hands, and even they have a less than perfect record with it. It's hard to recreate the epic scale of the series, when you share the engine with Blood 2 and Shogo.

grviper: With the unofficial patches it's quite stable, less of a script mess and generally playable. Character development system isn't bad. Dungeons can even be enjoyable it you approach them with first person shooter in mind. However the overworld travel can take long: the maps are small, but they use twisty paths to stretch the travel time, you have no "jump" of "flight" spells and the portal workings are annoying. Also you'll be setting a lot of crap like skill books all the time. Not to mention that some areas do feel empty and unfinished even with all the fan updates.
Thanks :) It sounds a bit mediocre and I don't like long travel times, so I'll probably not get it.

Snickersnack: No, HoMM VI single player really is single player. There are these little map features (conflux orbs?) where players can leave hints for each other (more like spoilers and vulgarities) but that is the extent of it. HoMM VI could be played totally offline when I played through it last spring.* You won't be able to use your dynasty goodies (extra weapons and hero abilities) as those are linked to your online Conflux profile but those are unnecessary and kind of cheaty IMHO. *launch the HoMM VI executable with the '/offline' switch.

mistermumbles: Ah. Thanks for setting me straight. I wasn't quite sure what the deal was with that.
You're right to be suspicious. New Ubisoft titles have had a lot of unfriendly DRM lately. The Uplay/ Conflux has no business being in a single player focused turn based strategy game and can cause a lot of trouble. Fortunately HoMM VI isn't totally crippled like Diablo 3 and AssCreed 2 were/ are. I hope to see it on GOG some day.

I barely even buy new games anymore since it's all drenched into disgusting DRM. Seriously you have to do research about the game you're buying now just to make sure you're not getting screwed, since they don't write it on the box (which should be illegal). What happened to when you could just buy a game and pop the disc in knowing you'd be able to play it whenever you wanted and that it was going to be yours forever?

Me too ... anyway i have so many GOG games to play that buying new games it's just plain stupid since i don't have the time to play them too.
When I'll have the time those game will became relatively old, cheaper, patched-up etc and hopefully DRM-free. Then i'll play them. Also, I don't need to upgrade the hardware so often to keep up with the increasing new game demands.
Seems to me that this is a great strategy ... perfect gaming experience.
Great sale. I finally broke down and bought Il-2: 1946. Best flight game I've never played.
Ubi is better with DRM-free.

Everything is better DRM free. ;).
Far Cry 2 without the annoying DRM! Thank you! It's a love it or hate it game, and I absolutely love it. The stealth elements and large world are so well done.

Picked out Rainbow 6 as well, haven't played that since it came out on the PlayStation. My friends and I were totally amazed and engrossed by the game at the time. Recently my buddy gave me his copy of Ghost Recon for Xbox, but I grabbed the GOG one as well.

It's funny, when I was around 9-12 all I played was RTSs, hardcore tactical shooters, flight sims, and I even got into some turned based war games. Now I like arcade racers and mind numbing action games, what happened to me? I need to stock up on tactical games lol
I seriously don't understand WTF is Far Cry 2 it's You have Malaria hunt for Diamonds CONVENIENTLY located in SUITCASES and you also have a diamond tracking device HOW CONVENIENT you sell diamonds to get upgrades and more tablets you then get oddball quests called Missions that don't really do anything What a friggin Mess of a game! the multiplayer is also FUBAR without any radar to show you where the opponents are you have to keep checking your MAP WTF?!?

Your main mission in Far Cry 2 is to kill the Jackal.

Yeah and I guess he doesn't exist in the game.

I just love the stealth action of Far Cry 2. I love the reactions of the AI. It's one of the few games where I feel like a total badass without it being canned. For some reason I hated both Far Cry and Crysis lol, yet I very much enjoyed Crysis 2 for similar reason to FC2, excellent stealth. There's very subtle things both games do that add greatly to the experience, like believable path finding, or enemies having fear based reactions, or enemies searching an area I've just been in a realistic and coordinated fashion.

I find it weird that I got into dumbed down games as I got older. Major exception was driving simulators, I got more hardcore into those as I got older. I play the ones that arguably aren't games, but training tools lol, and the game like ones annoy me lol

I still love FPSs, probably always will, and fighting games. I just can't do those fast paced twitch shooters anymore since my reflexes aren't what they use to be. I like the tactical ones like AA3 or Tribes: Ascend where I can beat batter players by being smarter.
