Get Master of Orion 1-3, Alone in the Dark 1-4, KKND 1&2, and more endangered Atari classics 65% off!

Out of all gaming industry brands in existence, Atari always was one of the most recognizable and respectable. For over 40 years the name has became inseparably associated with unpretentious gaming fun. The amount of progress a single company can bring to an industry is simply astounding. From game cabinets to home consoles, from 8-bit classics to recent blockbusters, from engineering to publishing--the company was always in the center of it. It's unlikely there are many gamers who weren't saddened by the news of company's trouble. Whatever happens now, we should hope that it will emerge victorious once the dust settles, as it did numerous times before. Gaming legends are forever, so today all there's left to say is: [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/atari_weekend_promo_120713]Thank you, Atari!

The entire Atari catalog on GOG.com is available 65% off. We're talking landmark titles like Master of Orion 1+2, Alone in the Dark 1+2+3, Total Annihilation: Commander Pack, Star Controll 1+2, and , among many others. Head out to the [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/atari_weekend_promo_120713]promo page, to see the entire selection. The offer lasts until Tuesday, July 16, at 3:59AM GMT. Don't miss out!

jalister: I get it. Something didn't feel right, so I never bought BG:EE.

I'm still sore about Infinite Dungeons, and the other two premium modules for Neverwinter Nights getting pulled from sale. I never got to buy those three since I was waiting for a DRM free version to get released.
Well, modern Atari or what's left of it may suck but this sale and the good old games are nice. A while ago in anticipation of Atari's demise I bought everything I thought I wanted by them here just in case. Too bad now I didn't wait but oh, well, better than too bad I waited, etc. which I was worried then could have happened.

As my dad likes to say, "He who hesitates is lost." Better buy now folks to ensure you are not disappointed and out of luck later.

There is just two more I am a little tempted by: the first Roller Coaster Tycoon (I own the other two) and TA:Kingdoms (already have TA). Maybe I should listen to old dad's advice and not hesitate. lol

Oh, and Moonbase Commander looks kind of cool too.

HypersomniacLive: A question about the Alone in the Dark series.

The first three games are labeled (by GOG) as "action / adventure / horror" while the forth as "adventure / action / horror".
I haven't played the last one (and a very long time since I last played the first ones), but every review I've read says that all games fall into the "action-adventure" sub-genre of adventure games.

Could those that have played them all shed some light:
-- Are the first three games more action-oriented than the forth?
-- And in what way?

Thanks ahead.

EDIT: typo

Ghorpm: I wouldn't pay attention to GOG labels. Sadly, there very messy. Caesar 3 is labeled as simulation/strategy/managerial while Pharaoh and Zeus strategy/simulation/managerial and the concept of those games is absolutely identical only the setting is changed and there are of course some mechanic-wise improvements.
How is that messy? They're just tags.

Some people round here...

The tags are the same, just the order has changed.

You know what's even worse? If you had already purchased the premium mods for NWN, Atari won't even let you download them anymore.
Now's a good time to finally get I-War and MOO :D I've been crazing some realistic space sims!

Well, you can filter the catalog by genre (action, adventure, indie and so one) and the thing is that Ceaser 3 is displayed under the sim tag (because it's the first one listed on the gamecard) while Pharaoh and Zeus are in Strategy tab (same reason as before). Shouldn't they be in the same category? So the order does matter here. Filtering the catalog is therefore a bit impractical because you can miss some games that you should see under a specific tag. I guess you've never used those filters but for me it would be very nice if they were working correctly. For example when I want to pick a new strategy game it would be good to filter the catalog to display strategy games only. But with those messy tags (I still think they are messy) I can't really do that. I hope you understand my point now ;)

EDIT: and the same story with AitD series: the trilogy appears in action (because that's the firs one listed) while New Nightmare is referred as an adventure game. Weird, isn't it?

kodeen: GOG, do you know something that we don't, or is this just a precautionary measure?
GOG has no way of knowing. It depends who buys each IP, and that won't be known until the auction which, I believe, is next week? It's not really a precautionary measure, though, as I think it's pretty much guaranteed some of these games will disappear once their new owners decide what to do with them.

Atari is asking $100,0000 to half a million dollars to over a million dollars for each IP, with them wanting at least $3.5 million for the Rollercoaster Tycoon. Your guess is as good as anyone else's as to who will buy them, if anyone does.

BTW, you can see minimum wanted bids for each IP here;

Thanks for that. I'm still hoping Humongous appears eventually, even though it's even less likely now. :P
One would hope that whomever would buy older IPs such as these wouldn't be fool enough to remove them from any distribution platform, let alone GoG.

Hell, even EA has the Wing Commander series, Bullfrog games etc, despite having their own distribution platform.

One would hope so, anyway.

Ah, ok, then that's what I didn't know. Thanks.
I just watched the intro from Outcast and I think I'm sold based on the storytelling alone.

Also, I own Riddick and it's one of few GOG games I've actually completed.
This development really bums me out. There's just so many of these I'd like to have; even trimming them down to essentials leaves too many :(

Hope these find good new homes! TA and MoO seem like absolute steals at these prices.
Even if the games should disappear, I still won't buy those which don't interest me...which are most of them :D
Have some, have to see if I'll buy some others...

Summer Sales aren't good for our wallets. Not at all.
Which is better/easier TA Kingdoms or TA Commander Pack? I dont know, buy both or not, because I have not played any game this series and I am not great rts games player.
For anyone considering Outcast, there may be a new one in the future. You may want to grab the original while you still can.

I haven't played the TA games but the GOG reviews suggest TA Commander is superior to KIngdoms so I intend to purchase just TA Commander (not both for finanical reasons). .
