Get Master of Orion 1-3, Alone in the Dark 1-4, KKND 1&2, and more endangered Atari classics 65% off!

Out of all gaming industry brands in existence, Atari always was one of the most recognizable and respectable. For over 40 years the name has became inseparably associated with unpretentious gaming fun. The amount of progress a single company can bring to an industry is simply astounding. From game cabinets to home consoles, from 8-bit classics to recent blockbusters, from engineering to publishing--the company was always in the center of it. It's unlikely there are many gamers who weren't saddened by the news of company's trouble. Whatever happens now, we should hope that it will emerge victorious once the dust settles, as it did numerous times before. Gaming legends are forever, so today all there's left to say is: [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/atari_weekend_promo_120713]Thank you, Atari!

The entire Atari catalog on GOG.com is available 65% off. We're talking landmark titles like Master of Orion 1+2, Alone in the Dark 1+2+3, Total Annihilation: Commander Pack, Star Controll 1+2, and , among many others. Outcast if you haven't already played it. Amazing adventure game.

Ok thanks. I bought it. :)
Well, I bough B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th. A good flight sim that'll actually run on my crappy laptop? I'll take that.

Ditto, if there is just one game you have to buy in this sale it's definitely Outcast.

Yikes! Whatever happened to The Enigmatic T's flawless grammar? :D

Gazoinks: I highly recommend Darklands. Very underappreciated RPG that's kinda the precursor of games like Mount&Blade. It definitely has flaws, mainly in some obvious repetitiveness after a while and the obligatory clunkiness, but it's still good. Also, great setting and the character creation system is brilliant.
I second that. I picked it up a few months ago and it's absolutely fabulous. And for 2 bucks, you can't go wrong.

Bloodygoodgames: GOG has no way of knowing. It depends who buys each IP, and that won't be known until the auction which, I believe, is next week? It's not really a precautionary measure, though, as I think it's pretty much guaranteed some of these games will disappear once their new owners decide what to do with them.

Atari is asking $100,0000 to half a million dollars to over a million dollars for each IP, with them wanting at least $3.5 million for the Rollercoaster Tycoon. Your guess is as good as anyone else's as to who will buy them, if anyone does.

BTW, you can see minimum wanted bids for each IP here;

tarasis: Curious the Independance War / I-War franchise I missing. Has someone already grabbed that IP? Or is it mixed in with the Atari Brand / Atari Classics?
They may have already sold it as they have with Outcast and (I think?) at least one other IP as, from what I've read, I don't think they're planning on keeping anything.

TheScorpion: Question, what happen if a game you bought is no longer sold by GOG?? Do you still have the chance to download it?? Do you get a refound?? Or is like... you better make a backup...
They remain in your library on GOG, just like they always did. It's just that nobody else will be able to buy them here.

GOG.com: promo page...
Oh dear, I've read it as...
Never mind. :)

Moon Base Commander look interesting. And two bucks are less than a box of penauts.

How's Independence War? Got kinda mixed signals from people about this series...
If you like FPS, even a little. I beg you, buy Blood!!!

It's one of the finest shooters I've ever played and is miles above Duke 3D or Shadow Warrior.
I joined GOG to play Blood. The idea that people in the future won't be able to buy it here makes me sad.

If the Blood IP is sold I hope it's to someone who will greenlight the Blood Remake Atari turned down.

Master of Orion 1+2,Colonization and Master of Magic if you like TBS games. Even if you're not a TBS player, MOO 1+2 and Colonization are still must-buys.

Outcast is a good game, with lots of flaws, but worth it , especially for this price.

Pirates! Is a must as well.

Blood(the first one) needs no introduction. Don't bother with the second one...

Darklands is dated and hard to get into at first, but a great RPG once you get over that.

JaqFrost: I think they had some sort of Gentlemen's Agreement in regards to royalties and are now squeezing Beamdog's head like a pimple.
No, Atari is dead: Infrogames (or whatever you spell it) is / was a publisher that bought up Atari when it went bankrupt. Atari was a US company, Infrogrames was a European one; Infrogrames gutted Atari's US staff, harvested their backlog of IP rights, then re-branded themselves as "Atari" like some kind of skin mask.

after that, they proceeded to run themselves into the ground while barely staying afloat by sucking royalties from Bioware's D&D games, but when Bioware gave them the bird on that by switching over to other IPs "Atari" went straight into the shitter.

somewhere after that Bamco (Bandai-Namco) slid in and silently bought up "Atari" and gutted it for its European offices and publishing division, but because "Atari" is such a cluster fuck of partial ownership mergers and buyouts, Bamco has been able to hide how much they have actually taken possession of while the European corporate entity for "Atari" has been left to rot and the US box shipping division that put Witcher 2 & Tera on Walmart's shelves has been set to auto pilot.

Hasbro owns D&D, but they also were the ones that owned Atari before it was sold to Infrogames, so while they were quite able to take back ownership of the IP from "Atari" and start shipping out new boxes of old D&D games, I think there have been some issues with how much of the publishing rights they sold along with the Atari name.

Bamco inked the deal for BG-remastered, then the rights to the old D&D games reverted to Hasbro so Beamdog started sending the royalty checks to them; now Bamco is claiming that BG-remastered is actually a new game and that they should be getting the checks as the publishers for it, like how WB gets the producer checks for DDO and Perfect World is getting the checks for Neverwinter. (but to highlight their hypocrisy, Bamco is in bed with Steam now and doesn't want to rock the boat on whatever deal they have with them for Dark Souls 2, so BG-remastered stayed up on steam while everyone else got take-down notices.)

Just think about how fucked up and back asswards Dark Souls PC release was to see how much "Atari" is still alive and well inside Bamco.

gandalf.nho: Nice promo, already have Rollercoaster Tycoon 1-3, Blood 1 and 2, both Total Annihilation, Darklands, Pirates! Gold Plus, Outcast and KKND 1, will buy at least KKND2. Thinking in get Star Control and Master of Orion, how is the difficulty of these for players who genereally don't play TBS, only RTS?
avatar
tinyE: Ditto. word for word, same post, same questions, anyone?
Master of Orion 2 has a very intuitive User Interface, additionally it features a good explanations for every button whenever you control (or shift) click it to make a popup help appear. There is no tutorial, but whenever you're stuck and the help-click doesn't work you can ask me or any MOOII fanboy.
Next to Alpha Centauri it's one of the most popular turn based strategies ever made, not for the brutally challenging difficulty (unlike dark souls you can play the game on easy without feeling bad) but because of streamlined control and addictive concepts.
I had my problems with Star Control 3 but I think I get that one just for the cheesy dialogue and hilarious races you can encounter there.
Alpha Centauri also has a very nice unofficial patch over at patches-scrolls, which really improves the stability of the game, overhauls AI and rebalances some of the issues with supply and the new factions Alien Crossfire added

It's Infogrames, not "Infrogames". I know you said you weren't sure how to spell it, but if you're going to write an article in which you'll use the word a lot, a little googling wouldn't have hurt.

Also, you make it seem like Infogrames were this evil corporation that ultimately clipped Atari's wings and were responsible for some kind of creativity loss. Infogrames actually developed a whole deal of great games (one of the best SNES games I own, Lucky Luke, is by Infogrames), and I should let you know that Alone in the Dark, one of the highest rated, great classic games on this Atari promotion, is an Infogrames game, developed in-house.
I would recommend Darklands, which is a very unusual party-based RPG, and Outcast, which is an interesting adventure game. Picked up MOO myself.
