Tales of Monkey Island, all Sam & Max games, and more from Telltale 80% off.

For the last 8 years the talented people at the Telltale Games studio have been delivering the best point-n-click adventures, featuring many of the all-time favorite characters, to our computers' screens. Their episodic publishing formula allowed a steady flow of development and gave the devs time to carefully and lovingly polish all the fine details of their games. Each episode is a little shiny gem, priceless and unique. But here's a thing about buying jewels: you can usually only afford one at a time. So what if you want to catch up with a whole season of episodes of a Telltale adventure--an equivalent of a box full of jewels? You [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/telltale_weekend_promo_9_11_12/]get it 80% off on GOG.com!

The Tales of Monkey Island--starring the world famous hapless pirate, Guybrush Threepwood--offers five chapters of fantastic fun for less than $7!

Back to the Future: The Game offers you a glimpse into the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown, that took place after (or before--time travel is tricky) the movie storyline. Get it for less than $5!

Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures features the very British pair of comedians, that starred in many critically acclaimed movies (well, stop-motion claynimations, actually). The entire season of four episodes can be yours for less than $4!

And last, but not in any way the least: Sam and Max, the freelance sleuth duo consisting of a dog in a trenchcoat and notoriously naked white rabbit, are well known to any adventure fan. Now you can get the entire collection of their adventures--all sixteen episodes produced by Telltale spanning over three seasons: Sam & Max Save the World, Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space, and Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse--for less than $20!

The GOG.com point-n-click all you can eat buffet is now open, so you can finally satisfy your hunger for great Telltale adventures, 80% off! The promo will last until Tuesday, November 13, at 4:59AM GMT.

And in case you missed it, here's what's new... I mean: here's the new episode of our weekly show:
Sonofa-!!

I just impulse-bought devil's playground, bttf and wallace and grommet for full price the day before this promo!!!

That's over $75 for three! (KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!)

You can get ALL of them for half of that! DO IT! NAO!!! Don't make the mistake I did! ;_;

The only comfort I have is the warm fuzzy feeling that my money is going to worthy companies...
That and I now have 3 ossom games to get through ^______^

Still. I did promise Emily I'd never buy their games until they made them available without any DRM so maybe that's karma payback... >_>

@Telika - If you like Monkey Island, get it. It's not as good as Monkey Island 3, but it's better than 4 if that's any help :) The puzzles range from fairly easy to MK1-levels of obscureness but the humour is right up there :D And... BEWARE THE MANATEE :O XD

Telika: I don't really think these games are overpriced. They are episodic, but each time I've played an episode of Sam&Max, it felt like a full game to me. The fact that the episodes aspect forces you to buy several is what makes them expensive, but I don't find the individual prices unfair. And I think they would not look so, if the stories were unrelated.

Anyway.

I'm hesitating to buy Monkey Island. I had adored Monkey Island 1, I had played half of Monkey Island 2... But I can't imagine how successfull or enjoyable the transposition to telltale 3D can be, It worked pretty well with Sam and Max, in my opinion. I have doubts about Monkey Island, for some reason.

So. Opinions of Monkey Island players ?
Although I only finished season 1 and 2 of Sam & Max, I think the episodic nature didn't work at all, because all episode have the same structure and almost the same locations/characters.

It worked better for Tales of Monkey Island, because the episodes take place on different locations, almost like the chapters of the original Monkey Island games.

At first I was very skeptic about the 3d enviroment, but I think it works. I like 2d better, but it isn't bad.

Tales of Monkey Island doesn't use click to move (e.g. click on the ground and move to the locations). Guybrush can be controlled using click and drag in a direction (like a virtual joystick), by keyboard or by gamepad. I prefer the keyboard way.

To sum it up: I would recommend playing Tales of Monkey island over playing the Sam & Max episodes. If you think Sam & Max works in 3d and the episodic format, I believe you will like Tales.

Monkey Island 1, 2, and 3 are some of the best adventure games I've ever played, and I've only played the first episode of ToMI, so I may be a little biased here.

Anyway the game feels a little different - I found that the puzzles aren't as clever or funny as before. Also given the episodic nature of ToMI, it felt small and limited in terms of locations and things to do (I felt the same about TellTale's S&M games too).

I'd say that ToMI still does a very good job with the humour overall, especially with the dialogue and characters. It's just that it seems a lot more casual than the originals.
I almost bought Tales of Monkey Island, but then I saw it only supports English. Why?
Thanks for the good advice to give it a try, i just played some of the first chapter with my little niece she also like Sam & Max. charming game just a little bother with the interface and no azerty support for the movement.

koima57: Haha you guess it there is just something violently unappealing to me in the visual of those two.. Maybe that clay rendered in 3D or the original feel of it, i never saw the cartoon movie so i can't tell.. Though i have most of Telltales games in my library i always skip on this one, maybe if i were to try a demo someday would grace it on my side.

Edit : Trying now Steam demo, let me give it a chance!

Edit 2 : Chance given and purchased, i learn some more not to judge too fast a book by its cover, very Telltale from the demo so i see. Also nice, French subtitles on a GOG game FOR ONCE.. :)

KainDrake: Haha. Nice. Glad you liked it. :) Have fun and enjoy the rest of the games. And if you have the game on GoG, check out the Cracking Contraption videos. Those are some of their old shorts. :)
So which one, BTTF : Game or Tales of Monkey Island?
I already bought Wallace and Gromit, and now i have 21€ to spent. So i'm getting Sam & Max Season 1 - 3 and after that i can buy 1 game, so which one should i get. Back To The Future : The Game or Tales of Monkey Island.
Both are fun but if you prefer one license to another, go for it. Also, BTFF is easier than Tales of Monkey Island.
Wallace & Gromit or Monkey Island?

Already played BTTF. Loved it.

Wallace and Gromit is... frankly, it's dull. It's not nearly as interesting, and the stakes aren't nearly as high as they are in Monkey Island. However, 4 bucks is a good deal, and this is the only available DRM free copy of the game.

koima57:
what's azerty? Well, moving around isn't that hard to get used to. Just use WASD to move around. The orientation does get a little annoying when the camera changes.
Sorry azerty is my french / european keyboard layout, WASD become ZQSD here. But not for a few games including this one, ah well the arrow keys still work for this one.

Do owners of the Tales of Monkey Island Deluxe Edition benefit something in buying the GOG digital version?

Although its really cheap right now, I'm not particulary interested in buying the same thing twice! From what I could see, all of the GOG extras already come with this edition, is this correct?

I still haven't installed it yet, to not sure how's the DRM like... can anybody enlightment me in these 2 aspects?
GOG should add the three movies as extra to the BTTF owners. :-)

But of course that will only happen in like a hundred years when the copyright has expired...
