Get Thief, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Soul Reaver, and more Square Enix classics up to 75% off!

We're all gamers, here at GOG.com, so we know very well that games aren't something you can have. They're something you must have. A commodity, essential to our wellbeing. We take it as our mission to deliver what makes you happy right onto your virtual doorstep. Our weekend [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/square_enix_weekend_promo_040414]Square Enix Supply offers you the chance to get games from some of the most exciting series with up to 75% off discount. Square Enix catalog features some of the most impressive gems in the GOG.com offer. Titles that evoke memories and emotions in thousands and thousands of gamers. The character cast of the Square Enix stable alone is impressive enough to make one's heart race. If GOG.com had a red carpet, celebrities such as Lara Croft, Garret the Master Thief, Agent 47, Kain and Raziel, and JC Denton would arrive to walk it on a limousine marked by Square Enix logo. Let's take a quick look at the featured games, shall we?

Lara Croft is the ever-shining star of the Tomb Raider series. Lately her character has undergone some major changes. Here, we give you a chance to spend some quality time with good--erm--classic Lara. Tomb Raider 1+2+3, Tomb Raider: Last Revelation + Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness sum up all of the miss Croft's early career, for only $3.99 each!

Yet another hero who is a fan of property re-assignment concept, Garret the Thief has now made a comeback with a new game. The word on the street is that the new title is very nice, but not quite what the long-time fans of the series expected from a Thief game. On GOG.com you can catch up with all of Garret's classic adventures, as long as you can keep up with him, as he silently moves through the shadows. Thief Gold, Thief 2: The Metal Age, and Thief 3: The Deadly Shadows let you experience the life of a thievery archmaster, for only $3.49 each!

Not really in the mood for action and adventure? Startopia takes the classic city-builder genre to the stars and lets you manage a fully simulated alien society of nine distinctive races in which each citizen's mood, needs, and goals can be individually tracked. You'll get some help from VAL--your AI advisor--brilliantly voiced by William Franklyn, the British actor famous for his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio performance. The game is only $1.49 this weekend!

That's only a small taste of the Square Enix titles you can get up to 75% off this weekend. Head out to our Square Enix Supply promo page, to check out the whole offer available until Tuesday, April 8, at 3:59AM GMT. Enjoy your weekend!

Redfern: This sounds like if they decide to go Steam-only they demand you to destroy all drm-free copies?
I'm not a legal expert, but I'm pretty confident that one party cannot change the terms of an agreed contract post facto without arbitration. EULAs are notoriously dodgy in what they claim versus what they can enforce, and a good chunk of them are devoted to attempting to impose terms on the consumer that are not permitted by law.
Also, does anyone know how to configure a controller with a pad for Soul Reaver?

Niteris: I was about to buy the entire collection of Legacy of Kain when I see this:

"ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY"

So I click it, then I see this nightmare:

"The terms and conditions of this EULA are without prejudice to any terms and conditions governing your use of any third party proprietary software product including without limitation any STEAM™ software. Such third party proprietary software may be embodied on the media containing this Software Product or otherwise downloaded within the software package containing the Software Product and may be required in order to use certain features of this Software Product, which use may be subject to and conditional upon your acceptance and observance of additional third party end user licence agreements.""

and this:

"WE ARE ONLY PREPARED TO LICENCE YOU TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT ON THE TERMS OF THIS EULA."

and this:

"7. Termination
Without prejudice to any other rights, Square Enix may terminate this EULA immediately without notice if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In the event of termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software Product and all of its component parts including any Software Product stored on the hard disk of any computer. All provisions of this EULA relating to disclaimers or warranties, limitations of liability, remedies, or damages and Square Enix’s proprietary rights shall survive termination."

I'm sorry GOG, but I came here to get away from this kind of bullshit, but now you're selling games where we have to accept your competitors EULA/contract to play the games we get from you?
Now, if I somehow misread all this, I apologize; but this all looks extremely fishy to me.
Thankfully, it's only appeared on the Square Enix games on sale, so far. Even "my" (I guess I shouldn't call it that anymore should I?) of Theif GOLD has this malware now.

If this starts spreading and/or I have to start using steam to play my GOG games, you've eternally lost a loyal costumer and friend. I'm going to to download my catalogue now before it gets infected.

I hope you read this and self-correct it.

Please, do something about this.
It's not our competitor's EULA, it's Square Enix's standard EULA that they delivered to us as-is and requested that we put it into their products. Now, I am not a lawyer but I *think* you kind of have to be one in order to alter a document such as an EULA (real lawyers feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

I hope that helps :)

I picked up the rest of the Kain games and grabbed Gangsters. Still considering a couple of others - Daikatana, just for boasting rights, you know how it is - and I nabbed a copy of Project Eden to give away somewhere down the line. I love that game, and when I did my first GA last month I really really enjoyed it. At this price, I might lay in a few copies for future reference.
None of those games are actually square or enix
Thanks for the special GOG! Picked up some very nice titles for cheap; much appreciated. To think...one of the greatest PC video games ever (Deus Ex) for 4 bucks...sacrilege.

You like that game Project Eden? Funny I never would have guessed that. :P Seriously that is one of the true hidden gems on this site and I'm glad to see it getting a little more press.

I just abhor the fact that they reserve the right to take away our games without a moments notice, it's steam-esque.
I think a lot of costumers would feel better if the EULA was taken out, I came to GOG because it has DRM-less games, meaning they couldn't take my paid for products away from me which is why I kept putting buying digitally off for around 7 years. The only reason I buy games here and digitally (only here) at all is because I trust GOG to not take away said paid for games.

Do you really think it would be fair to say "Oh sure, you can spend real life money purchasing this game so you can play, as long as you sign this contract that says that at any point in time, forever, we reserve the right to take it away from you without notice for no reason and without explanation."
I really thought GOG was above that, and for the a lot of things it is. You guys are the only company to actually apologize to fans when you make a mistake and then do something about it and learn from it, and we love you for it.
I know you guys are a company trying to earn money, if you have must-accept EULA's that have people downloading their entire libraries in fear of losing their games, then that's not good in the slightest.

I don't mean to nag or something, I'm just voicing my concerns because I really love using GOG's service to purchase and OWN my own games without them getting taken away. I'd like to keep it that way because this is a unique and amazing place to be with a great fanbase and great employees. Let's not forget that.
Also please don't take away my games... Please...

Normally GOG dont take away games from you even if they was taken off from selling - like Fallout or Guilty Gear.
I think (only think!) that this EULA allows Square Enix not only to remove game from GOG store, but also demand to remove it from customers game shelves. Still i very doubt Square Enix will be able to come to your house and format your hard drive to ensure that all your copies was destroyed. You always can download installer and hide it somewhere.
Anyway, i really dont like this move from Squeare Enix...its looks like another slick way to ensure complete Steamification of games if S.E. will want it ever. As we all know publishers loves to complain about "piracy" and there is virtually very little help to fight it by putting game on Steam when where is officially drm-free copies on GOG That reason why a lot of games available both steam and DRM-free have at least "extended" versions on Steam which probably will not be released DRM-free.
Errrr yeah where is FF 7/8/9 on GOG when you need it...

Speaking of extended versions and steam. Why was AoE HD released on Steam but not GOG same with Balder's Gate II HD.

But anyway, about the Fallout, GOG's contract to sell them expired or the game rights were switched or something, so they lost the right to continue selling it for now but not let people download their purchased games, so that's a different matter.

Still though, in the Sqeenix EULA, it basically says that they can put steam in the game and then you have to use it or forfeit the game (pun slightly intended) or they can just straight up remove it. They shouldn't be able to do that to paying customers, it's not right or fair.

Extended Steam-inly version is not only for "big" games. For example in current IndieRoyale - BlackSoul: Extended Edition for: Win - Steam, DRM free , Desura ( not Extended). Its usual thing. Still better then simply removing game from downloads.

And yeah, its exactly same that i think about Square Enix as with recent Hero Siege game scandal when developer simply said "if you want to continue play this game - redeem it on Steam).
And i dont think they CARE that you paid real money.

HiPhish: Because Square-Enix don't want to. The company is extremely protective of their original Japanese games, what they are selling here are just old leftovers from Eidos.
Both FF7 and FF8 requires SE Account that you ned to log in once to be able to play
wich is pretty dumb since it was almost impossible to play it the first week it was re-relase on steam due to high traffic on the SE servers.
Also, i higlhy doubt we will get it here since the Final fantasy brand is kinda a milking cash cow for them.
Expect to se Collections, remakes or whatever before they will make it DRM free.

Because there is no DRM in the game they cannot remove it from your computer or stop it from starting. Most if not all EULA say that your license to use the software is revokable. Before DRM this was not enforceable. Since DRM they can do it but only if the software has DRM built in. GOG software is DRM free so there is no problem.
Is there a full moon tonight or something?! :P
