Get Thief, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Soul Reaver, and more Square Enix classics up to 75% off!

We're all gamers, here at GOG.com, so we know very well that games aren't something you can have. They're something you must have. A commodity, essential to our wellbeing. We take it as our mission to deliver what makes you happy right onto your virtual doorstep. Our weekend [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/square_enix_weekend_promo_040414]Square Enix Supply offers you the chance to get games from some of the most exciting series with up to 75% off discount. Square Enix catalog features some of the most impressive gems in the GOG.com offer. Titles that evoke memories and emotions in thousands and thousands of gamers. The character cast of the Square Enix stable alone is impressive enough to make one's heart race. If GOG.com had a red carpet, celebrities such as Lara Croft, Garret the Master Thief, Agent 47, Kain and Raziel, and JC Denton would arrive to walk it on a limousine marked by Square Enix logo. Let's take a quick look at the featured games, shall we?

Lara Croft is the ever-shining star of the Tomb Raider series. Lately her character has undergone some major changes. Here, we give you a chance to spend some quality time with good--erm--classic Lara. Tomb Raider 1+2+3, Tomb Raider: Last Revelation + Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness sum up all of the miss Croft's early career, for only $3.99 each!

Yet another hero who is a fan of property re-assignment concept, Garret the Thief has now made a comeback with a new game. The word on the street is that the new title is very nice, but not quite what the long-time fans of the series expected from a Thief game. On GOG.com you can catch up with all of Garret's classic adventures, as long as you can keep up with him, as he silently moves through the shadows. Thief Gold, Thief 2: The Metal Age, and Thief 3: The Deadly Shadows let you experience the life of a thievery archmaster, for only $3.49 each!

Not really in the mood for action and adventure? Startopia takes the classic city-builder genre to the stars and lets you manage a fully simulated alien society of nine distinctive races in which each citizen's mood, needs, and goals can be individually tracked. You'll get some help from VAL--your AI advisor--brilliantly voiced by William Franklyn, the British actor famous for his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio performance. The game is only $1.49 this weekend!

That's only a small taste of the Square Enix titles you can get up to 75% off this weekend. Head out to our Square Enix Supply promo page, to check out the whole offer available until Tuesday, April 8, at 3:59AM GMT. Enjoy your weekend!

justanoldgamer: Why isn't "Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 1" here? Is it owned by someone else than Square Enix?

I'm thinking of getting the series but I'm afraid of starting the story in the middle.

JudasIscariot: It's in licensing hell, actually :(

I think TET mentioned something like this elsewhere on the forum but I can't recall where...
Does Silicon Knights still have any ownership for this version anymore? Also, I find it annoying how the rights to the PSOne version, with its insufferable load times, aren't in this situation.

As much as I dislike Silicon Knights and am truly fed up with Denis Dyack, after a long and fruitless attempt at funding a "spiritual successor" to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, I don't think they have any involvement with the publishing hell Blood Omen is in. Crystal Dynamics/Eidos (now Square-Enix) are the only ones holding the rights to the PS version, whereas the PC port had Activision working on it, as well. Whatever the issues are, I don't think they'll be solved any time soon, if ever.

It's not like you're missing much, to be honest, Blood Omen has more hype going for it, than anything else. Amy Hennig did a much better job with Soul Reaver than Dyack with Blood Omen, and if you play all the Legacy of Kain games available on GOG I can assure you won't miss much of the back story, aside from the pseudo-lovecraftian element Denis Dyack obsessively pushes in all his games.

[EDIT] It's a long read, but Mama Robotnik's NeoGAF Silicon Knights' post-mortem thread sheds some light on the legal hell Blood Omen is in. Check it out here.

Ah, gotcha. Activision should just give it up already. It's not a brown and grey shooter so there's no way they'd be interested in it anyways. They let go of Sleeping Dogs, so why not this? Oh well, hopefully karma takes this into account too when he's figuring out how to f*ck Bobby Kotick.

Niteris: I was about to buy the entire collection of Legacy of Kain when I see this:

"ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY"

So I click it, then I see this nightmare:

"The terms and conditions of this EULA are without prejudice to any terms and conditions governing your use of any third party proprietary software product including without limitation any STEAM™ software. Such third party proprietary software may be embodied on the media containing this Software Product or otherwise downloaded within the software package containing the Software Product and may be required in order to use certain features of this Software Product, which use may be subject to and conditional upon your acceptance and observance of additional third party end user licence agreements.""

and this:

"WE ARE ONLY PREPARED TO LICENCE YOU TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT ON THE TERMS OF THIS EULA."

and this:

"7. Termination
Without prejudice to any other rights, Square Enix may terminate this EULA immediately without notice if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In the event of termination, you must destroy all copies of the Software Product and all of its component parts including any Software Product stored on the hard disk of any computer. All provisions of this EULA relating to disclaimers or warranties, limitations of liability, remedies, or damages and Square Enix’s proprietary rights shall survive termination."

I'm sorry GOG, but I came here to get away from this kind of bullshit, but now you're selling games where we have to accept your competitors EULA/contract to play the games we get from you?
Now, if I somehow misread all this, I apologize; but this all looks extremely fishy to me.
Thankfully, it's only appeared on the Square Enix games on sale, so far. Even "my" (I guess I shouldn't call it that anymore should I?) of Theif GOLD has this malware now.

If this starts spreading and/or I have to start using steam to play my GOG games, you've eternally lost a loyal costumer and friend. I'm going to to download my catalogue now before it gets infected.

I hope you read this and self-correct it.

Please, do something about this.
Quite frankly, who cares?

The whole point of DRM free is that the company can put any ridiculous nonsense they want into the EULA but have no way to enforce any of it without some sort of DRM.

If you're worried about these games being updated to include Steam, just back them up to a CD. Not that they would, if the huge controversy over regional pricing is any indication to go buy, you can be sure forgoing DRM free would kill off the site single handly.

How come the On Sale section on the front page only lists 20 games, when there are at least 26 on sale this weekend? Is this a limitation inherent in the website's design? In any case it's a bit misleading.

Thank you.

I still think of just Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest when I see Square Enix name.
Really want to pick up the legacy of kain series but not until Blood Omen 1 shows up on here. Until then I'm ok with the disc versions until that shows up on here. Is Omikron worth it? Leary due to David Cage's name attached to it since I hated Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain. and beyond looks awful.

First of all, let me just say the non-Silicon Knights Legacy of Kain titles are way better than Blood Omen, and unless you're a neurotically obsessive completionist you won't miss Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain as part of these games. I was fortunate enough to play all the games in the series, but I have to say it was Soul Reaver that got me hooked, not Blood Omen. People say that Nox is but a Diablo clone, but they praise Blood Omen just because it got featured in Home of the Underdogs and is considered a hard to find "overlooked" classic, when Blood Omen is little more than a Diablo clone with Zelda mechanics and puzzles thrown in for good measure, starring a "vampire anti-hero" (yeah, really innovative, the anti-hero stuff, we never had those in centuries of literature...) in the pseudo-lovecraftian setting Denis Dyack loves and uses as his single greatest trope in game developing. I know a lot of people who started playing the Legacy of Kain series with Soul Reaver, never having touched Blood Omen, and they didn't feel like they missed anything, the lore is explained and thankfully expanded in the Crystal Dynamics-only LoK games. Blood Omen would be a nice game to add, but it isn't essential, GOG already sells the four that matter the most.

As for Omikron, if you don't like any of David Cage's other games, then I would strongly recommend against getting it. It is, in my opinion, better than Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain (haven't played Beyond: Two Souls and don't plan on it), but that doesn't make it less of a distinct David Cage game. It's good, the story is ambitious, the gameplay isn't the QTE-fest Cage would become to be known for, but it surely shows its Quantic Dream aesthetics and design choices. You could give it a try, in my opinion it is a great game, but if you're so anti-David Cage, be aware the game does show it's a Quantic Dream developed title.

Yeah, that's going to take a long time to wear off!
Before I commit myself for wanting to play Daikatana... can anyone tell me if multiplayer still works/works well (enough)?
Ok, I've played Daikatana, and after five minutes in the very first level I was killed by a tiny lill' toad who blasts lasers...

Damn ! I'll put up with it...

Naev.
Great promo. Let's release more Square Enix games on GOG.

CrowTRobo: I'm curious, do you know of any issues that are keeping Dungeon Siege from being brought to GOG? Its not one of their original Japanese games and the Microsoft hurdle is no longer a problem. That game with the Ultima 5 & 6 mods seems like a perfect fit for here.
avatar
Niggles: Always thought was an MS issue myself, having said that, DS 1 & 2 is being sold elsewhere minus the expansions (not sure why this is the case).
Yeah, MS was the problem before, but now Square-Enix seems to own it. The reason it was on my mind is because Steam had a Square-Enix sale last week and the Dungeon Siege series was part of it, which surprised me. Unfortunately while Dungeon Siege 2 is DRM free per the DRM-free Steam thread on the forum, the first one is not. Their version of DS1 also seems to have a bug which breaks the end-game cinematics. Imagine putting hours and hours into it and then not being able to watch the end. :)

Now that I know that most, if not all, of the Square-Enix games here are former Eidos titles, I would have to think that Square-Enix is not interested in making any additional titles available on GOG. I wasn't a user of the site back when Eidos was sold, but I'm guessing they had the contract with GOG and Square is just allowing the contract to continue.
