Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman, and Thief series and more from Square Enix 60% off.

Here comes the GOG.com [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/square_enix_weekend_promo_28_09_12/]Square Enix Squad! A gallery of characters that shine a bright light in the history of gaming. The beautiful tomb raiding daredevil Lara Croft, the cyborg savior of humanity JC Denton, the king of stealth and thievery Garrett, and the mysterious archmaster of assassination known only as the Agent 47. This amazing ensemble of badasses is here for one reason only: all of their respective games in our catalogue are now discounted by 60% along with many other Square Enix titles until Tuesday, October 2 at 03:59 AM GMT.

Witness the first steps of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 1+2+3, a bundle that contains the first three games that made her a superstar. Then witness her more obscure, but even more dangerous adventures and witness her younger years in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation & Chronicles. Finally, follow Lara as she tackles a mysterious cult in Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Be sure not to miss all the action-adventure girl-power goodness!

Dare to venture into the dark dystopian future of Deus Ex and become JC Denton, the hardcore cybernetically enhanced peacekeeper that started to doubt his superior's agenda and stood up to the conspiracy. Then decide the fate of his successor, Alex D, the hero of Deus Ex 2: Invisible War. If you are a cyberpunk fan, a RPG aficionado, or if you simply want to try a different and challenging FPS, make yourself acquainted with the Deus Ex series.

Not all of the Square Enix Squad members enjoy the publicity. Some of them prefer to keep a low profile. Especially Garrett, the master-thief who sneaked into the promo through an unlocked skylight. Many gamers consider his adventures to be the pinnacle of stealth games and its first iteration, adequately titled Thief GOLD, an origin of a whole genre. The GOLD edition contains the original Thief: The Dark Project and an update that enhances the game with three new campaign missions and new enemy types. While you lurk around GOG.com treasury with Garret, be sure to also grab your copies of Thief GOLD and Thief 2: The Metal Age and Thief 3: The Deadly Shadows. At $3.99 each, it's really a steal!

Head out to the promo page and check out all 16 of the great Square Enix games you can get 60% off until Tuesday, October 2 at 03:59 AM GMT.

paulcmnt: It's been a while since a GOG promo got me interested. I got Hitman 1 and 2 and Deus Ex 1 and 2. I never played the original Deus Ex games, but Human Revolution was really good so I want to give them a try.
I recommend DX10 mod, HDTP (not finished but still working) and New Vision mod (better textures, about 75%). :)

morciu: gotta say I'm a little disappointed with Tomb Raider 1+2+3, I tried TR2 and it's unplayable, everything is shaky and twitchy and there are trails all over my screen. I was really looking forward to play this all night but now I find myself sitting like a dumbass staring blankly at the screen not knowing what to do. Don't know what to say Mr GOG, I thought we had something special here...
I got the 1, 2 and 3 pack and was pretty put-off as well. I didn't realize how ancient those games were I guess. I think I will stick to the Legend trilogy for my Tomb Raiding.
Oh GOG! Now I hate you so bad because I've just gave you a lot of money! This was a promo sent from hell! Argh!

Did you run the "universal patch" for TR 1,2,3?

I ran all three both on ATI/AMD and NVidia hardware, and they all run pretty much perfectly on both PCs. Ok there is some minor graphical glitch in the FMV parts of TR2 (as if the corners of the video are not always updated correctly, causing small artifacts), but it is minor. It is visible on both PCs, a bit similar glitch as in Gorky 17 FMV.

I was especially delighted to see TR1 running great with the 3Dfx Glide support. :)

Were they worse than you remembered, or was this the first time you saw them?

My reaction to them right now is pretty much the opposite. For an early 3D game series starting from 1996, they have stood the test of time surprisingly well. I thought I wouldn't be able to stomach the controls anymore, but even they felt fine now that I got the hang of them again (like remembering to first walk to the edge before trying to make a running jump...). I felt I might even try to replay the whole TR1 again, and work from there to the newer games.

Then again, if you were earlier familiar mostly with the newer TR games and only now tried the older ones, I guess that may taint the experience. That's why I usually try to play game series in correct order, if I intend to play the earlier parts too. :)

andrestv: EDIT: and as I look through Thief 2's gamecard I see that it comes with the soundtrack. The Universe isn't so powerful...
I assumed that the Thief soundtracks were basically just atmospheric music, and nothing memorable. Are they much more than that?

It's too bad some of the best Squeenix soundtracks (TR series and Hitman) aren't available as bonus content; having the Angel of Darkness soundtrack would certainly justify the $10 price tag in my book. (Of course, one can get the soundtracks elsewhere...)

I just like when gog games have the soundtrack, it's a personal preference (and its existence can tip the scale when other factors are equal). I don't even know if the soundtrack is good or not, I only know that the Thief games are pure gold :)

timppu: I presume Hitman 3 (aka Hitman: Contracts) will probably not appear in GOG, because for some reason it is missing also from other digital stores (Steam, GamersGate), even though all the other installments are there. Some IP rights issue with the third one?
The reason is a stupid song used in one scene. That's it. Apparently they can't be arsed to remove the song or replace it.

BananaJane: Yeah but they didn't publish them back then
None of those games are even japanese!
Japanese companies CAN publish non-Japanese games too, you know.

Thank GoG! I just picked up the whole promo (plus Perimeter and Soldiers).

Eighteen fun games for under $60. Wait a minute...How much is Diablo 3 again?
avatar
deonast: Definitely will enjoy it. Looks like GOG are sucking $52 from me so I think they might have a good one too based how many are probably going to be sucking down these games.

dipsal: It was their plan all along :-) Any personal favourites from the promo?
Probably going to be the thief series and Deus EX games. I have the thief series on CD and never had a chance to play (would like to one day, at the moment is nice to clear a bit of physical shelf space and go digital). Deus Ex I have been after for a while wanted to play it first before I gave the latest Deus Ex game a go which I have on PC and PS3 (PC game I got for free in a promo comp and the PS3 game I picked up cheap and yet still haven't played either. Actually my PC needs an upgrade to run the PC copy.

No time lately I've been buying lots of Blu-ray movies and you would't believe how much research that takes, it seems not every old film transfer to Blu-ray is done well, sometimes the DVD is still a better option, sometimes the directors get involved and decide they should try something different and make a mess of the resulting Blu-ray edition. Just about done with that Blu-ray buying madness for now so maybe more time will come my way soon.
I just saved $33

Got deus ex series, Thief series, And anachronox

Im poor at the moment so i have not been picking up games on release, Also hopefully i have over 200 games now.

Yeah I applied the update, at least I think, I'm not sure how it works because it only has 2 buttons (one to confirm and one to cancel). I put the update file in the game folder and clicked update, after that it said update finished.

I played them back in the day... well, the first and maybe second one I guess. They weren't my favorites but I did play them. Legend is what made me like the series though, so maybe there is some truth in what you say.

I know with RPGs it is hard to "go backwards" from where you got into the genre. I started RPGing with Baldur's Gate and going backwards to classics like Ultima 7 or Lands of Lore is really hard.

First world problems ;-) Enjoy the weekend and good luck with Deus Ex/Blurays.

Ok, I hope GOG staff will be able to fix it. I don't think you even need to put the update file into the game folder, I presume it finds your GOG TR1-3 installation automatically and updates the games there. I ran the patch file straight from the download directory.
Ouch. Why do you do this to me GOG. Brilliant promo though. If I hadn't started experimenting in the kitchen, could probably afford to splurge a bit more. As it is, gonna have to deal with that guilty conscience. Or at least, until I boot up the first game...
