City manager, space explorer, omnipotent entity, or a keeper of a humorous dungeon--whichever way you want to play, you’re the master.

Rule the EA Worlds! Decide which of the EA classic worlds you want to rule (or rule them all!) and get 50% off on GOG.com during this weekend’s promo. This promo ends next Monday, May 21 11:59 PM EDT

Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri is a space-based spin-off from the legendary Civilization series. Alpha Centauri is a 4X turn-based strategy at genre’s best: build, colonize, produce, research, and kill in a fantastic sci-fi world. Whether you’re a technology-loving Academician or a Chairman whose goal is to crush his people under the burden of neural stapling, you can get this fantastic startegy game from GOG.com for just $2.99.

SimCity 2000 Special Edition is a sequel to a ground-breaking SimCity, and it improves on the original in every aspect. As a mayor of an isometric city, you need to create a hi-tech metropolis starting from the smallest village. Setting up streets, houses, commercial facilities, preparing your city for disasters, setting up taxes, and managing other aspects of everyday city running--SimCity 2000 life is a tough nut to crack. Create the best city ever for only $2.99 on GOG.com.

Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2 form a pair of wonderfully evil and hellishly entertaining RTS-sim games in which you’re in charge of an underground empire. Set up deadly traps, recruit demons and imps, and send the gloriously hapless holy heroes straight to heaven. There’s never been a game that offered so much fun when you’re being the bad guy, probably thanks to tons of dark humor and addictive gameplay. Rule your very own nightmare dungeon for only $2.99.

, designed by the famous Peter Molyneux, is a ‘god-sim’ that places you in a game of world domination between the gods. You need to use your divine powers to control and award your followers or punish and destroy the non-believers with a goal to destroy other player’s enemy forces. Flooding, lightning, earthquake--you’re omnipotent so it’s only up to you how to shepherd your people. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/populous_2]Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods follows its almighty predecessor with more spells, an enhanced interface, and adding a character development system. You’re now son of Zeus and need to battle your way through the Greek pantheon. Kill all the gods for only $2.99 this weekend on GOG.com.

Crosmando: It's not my statement, GOG themselves state on the game page for DK2 that ATI users can only use software mode, thus no hardware acceleration.
But at the same time they link to extra information, stating this:

"If you don't have this shortcut, download and extract this file. Afterwards use the dk2_safemode.exe file to launch Dungeon Keeper 2 in a visually tweaked software rendering mode."

I have positive experiences with that workaround, making the lack of hardware acceleration a non-issue. That workaround is already included with fresh DK2 GOG installations apparently so you don't need to download it separately unless you are using an old installation.

HiroshiMishima: Are Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 related in any way? That is, do I have to play one to get backstory or such? If not, would I be happier with 1 or 2? I looked at the screenshots, and DK1 looked kinda.. odd. But DK2 looked a bit like a clusterfudge, making me nervous.
DK2 is not related at least in story. However, DK2 is the more polished version of the game. Well worth $3.

(I have had no issues but some people have)
How about the expansions? Is it likely GOG may add these at a later date? I hear the expansion to Alpha Centauri is quite massive, so it would be interesting to have that one.

I have avoided buying both DK and AC until the expansions have been added.

Hopefully they will one day be added.

AC had a 'soldout' release which included both which should be cheap if you can find a copy.
I bought Simcity 2000 because a month or so ago I couldnt get my retail copy to work all so this is good I can play the game again for nostalgia. The outdated interface is quite hard to look at and use for me but still fairly fun.
Nice, I own all games from this promo. I guess I'll just have fun and make sure I don't forget to check out the next offer.

That is, if I heed GOG's advice on the matter. ;)

I had quite a few issues trying to get my head around it, but I slowly figured it out.
I bought Alpha Centauri, because I loved Civilization III. Shame it's without expansion pack, but I hope it still will be awesome.

Thought about buying Dungeon Keeper 1 too, but don't have enough money. Next time!

Thanks. Doubt I'll be able to find that release, especially where I live. Will give it another think. Would like the games, but a downer they don't include the expansions and possibly don't even work properly on modern machines.
Well, I do have a ATI card on this computer (it was a free comp from a relative when my previous one died) but if that safemode workaround or whatever it is makes it playable, I don't think it should be too bad of an issue.

All Steam had was SimCity 4, which looks great but I can't abide that kinda price for a game that old. I also did a bit of checking around, the the Special Edition IS pretty much the best version of SC2K unless you actually think networking is important in a SimCity game. So yeah, I think I'll definitely get SimCity 2000.

I can FIND a copy of Alpha Centauri which comes with Alien Crossfire, but it's like 10 bucks on Amazon and that's still more money than I'd have really liked to spend. The whole point of getting a game on GOG when it's on sale is.. you know.. that it's on sale for at least half of the price.

The main reason that's an issue is because I don't know how well I'll enjoy the game and if I don't like it as much as I thought I would, $10 is a much harsher loss than $3-5. Which makes me wonder if they'll make the expansion available as PART of the game for those who've already bought it, or if they're gonna make it separate like some of their other expansions..

EDIT: After conferring with a couple friends, I've decided to bite the bullet and get the Sold Out copy of Alpha Centauri. As one of them pointed out, even if it turns out the game isn't as much fun as I'd hoped, I can always give it to my cousin who enjoys these kinds of games more often than I do.

Sylenall: Hey GoG, have you actually fixed the terrible compatibility issues with Dungeon Keeper? Because Last I checked you hadn't and that was MONTHS after release. I bought DK2 and can't play more than 5 minutes without crashing to the desktop.

Pretty disgusting of you to promote it in such a state.
And you've tried various workarounds in the Dungeon Keeper forum? ( http://www.gog.com/en/forum/dungeon_keeper_series/#1337468361 ) or ( http://www.gog.com/en/forum/dungeon_keeper_series/dungeon_keeper_2_stability_issues/page1 )

There are various threads discussing ways to fix the crashing, most prominently turn off hardware acceleration and switch to 800x600 or 640x480 resolution. Here's my own thread featuring peoples' suggestions from the "Reviews" section: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/dungeon_keeper_series/possible_support_from_the_reviews_section

Even though I don't own the game, I am still somewhat disappointed in GOG for this, but I think they tried to help people out and, since they don't have the source code, there's only so much they can do. Obviously the game works for some people, both on ATI and nVidia, plus it's still selling well, so those are probably some reasons why they haven't pulled it...

There's also the Unofficial patch 1.8 for DK2 linked in the DK forums. Always a possibility the patch fixes the problem...or adds five more :D.

Well butter my balls, that's nice and unfortunate at the same time. :P

I only said it might add more problems...it all depends on the individual PC and other things related to that...

I think it's actually 1.73 (at least that seems like the latest KeeperKlan has). But yes, as GOG has shown to everyone, "it all depends on the individual PC and other things related to that" time and time again...
