Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Earthworm Jim series, MDK 1&2, Freespace 1&2, Die by the Sword, and more Interplay classics 50% off!

When a conversation between gamers comes down to listing the absolutely essential PC classics one can't simply imagine the gaming world without, inevitably Interplay games come up. Most PC gamers are dedicated Interplay fans, even if unknowingly. Even if by some strange twist of life you don't instantly recognize the label, it's an easy bet that looking at our this week's [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/interplay_weekend_promo_280314]Interplay Irresistibles promo page you'll immediately notice at least two or three titles that will make you excited or nostalgic. The number of unforgettable classics in Interplay's offer here on GOG.com is simply astounding. Today, we bring you all of them with a 50% discount. Let's give our users the chance to talk about some of their favorites!

"My most indelible impression of playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto for the first time all those years ago was of just how FUN it all was. A great sense of humour (British, naturally) coupled with gorgeous graphics, lively characters, a host of play styles and topped off with THE best creature-stomp levels ever presented in gaming."--says our user GTLC in his review of the game.

I have never played a better "sword fighting" game than Die By The Sword. While the controls take a while to get used to, THEY MAKE SENSE! Being able to control your swings, where they go, how fast, being able to do feints, targeted shots, block, ripostes, etc. What other game gives you that type of control?--asks Shnar in his review of the title he calls the Most realistic sword fighting game EVER!

Besides the offbeat humor and the entertaining variety of the gameplay, MDK has one major thing going for it: presentation. This decade-old game holds up rather well thanks to some inspired level design and art direction. The colors really pop out; the game is dark, but isn't afraid to throw in vivid reds and oranges amidst the browns, blacks and grays. The dated graphics inadvertently give an otherworldly quality to the world's architecture. It's true that the assets are blocky, yet manage to be discernible and even look futuristic somehow. There are some seriously awesome textures here that are meant to disorient the player and try to turn genre conventions upside-down. The game is a joy to look at, listen to, and play[...]--says Chad praising the game's "unreal art direction".

That's only a small part of our weekend offer. Head out to our Interplay Irresistibles promo page and grab yourself some of the best games ever made for the PC, 50% off on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Tuesday, April 1, at 3:59AM GMT.

pi4t: What exactly is it that makes Sacrifice so good? The description and reviews don't seem to explain it too well. I can't even tell what genre the game is ("third person strategy", ok, but turn based or real time? Is it based on a single commander character giving orders, or a top-down view of your army?). Is there a campaign, or is it just skirmish battles? How long does a battle last, and if there is a campaign, are there multiple options/a full strategic map in the style of the total war games?

Adzeth: If you have time, here's a nice video about it:

That video has spoilers tho...

I'll put up a spoiler warning. Can't remember the video since I watched it when it came out, I just remember that I thought it was a good video about the game :)

Incidentally, please don't gift me the game as you did with zaine-h: I have a massive list of games to work through including most of the Fallouts and Infinity Engine games, so won't be able to play it if you do and will just feel guilty about it. Just tell me what the game is, and why it's recommended. Thanks.

Licurg: It's an Action/RTS game . You control your main unit (Wizard) like in a traditional 3rd-person action game (MDK,etc) and you control your units with your mouse . The game has 5 factions, each with it's own unique units and with it's own campaign, and you can mix it up between them during the campaign, in certain conditions (you'll get a chance to betray the god you're currently working for in favor of a new one, for example). There's no strategic map like in the Total War games . It also has skirmishes, which can last between a few minutes to 1-2 hours, depending on the map you play, number of players, whether you play in a team or not, other things as well .

Also, this game has amazing production values, with the music, voice-acting, etc. Everything is top-notch - Just take a look at who worked on this game :

Thanks for the information. I'll look into maybe getting it at a later date.

tinyE: Finally Invictus. This looks great however the stills look TBS but the reviews call it RTS. Which is it?
It is a RTS game, though I only play tested it a bit. You can zoom in and rotate the camera, which is a nice mechanic to find in an old strategy game. I don't remember it being overly difficult if that is what concerns you.

My guess is this is one you would want in your collection, and a game you can actually play through to the end.
And Fallout isn't here... WE MISS YOU TO BLOODY DEATH FALLOUT 1 2 & TACTICS!
Ok, my period of introspection is over and I bought the following:

From this promo:
Sacrifice
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
Subwar 2050 Complete

And while my card was out:
Downfall
Braveland
Unholy Heights

What sucks about GOG sales is that they often happen when I'm in a money-saving mood. What's great, though, is that if you miss one, you don't have to worry because another one will be coming soon.
Well, damn. I'm only missing one game for some reason.
These 50% sales are a bit difficult for me, there aren't really any games that I want at a 50% discount but there are quite a few I'd pick up within seconds if they were discounted at 70%. This sounds like a spoiled thing to say but it's just how my purchase behavior has changed over the decades.

It's funny, I remember being on the fence about Stonekeep when it was released, turning the box in my hands and marveling at the screenshots printed on the back but at a price of about 90 USD I wasn't sure if it was worth the risk. The reviews then were divided as they are today, a love or hate it kinda game.
Now the game is on sale for a laughable $2.99 and I'm still unsure whether to get this or not. Most likely, I won't buy anything.

I don't know whether discount percentages are even in the hands of GOG so not sure if posting that I'd buy more games and ultimately spend more money at 70% discounted sales will even be heard and taken into account for future sales, at all. But I'll throw it out there anyway.

I completely agree. To the best my knowledge the publisher is responsible for the discount just as they are for the prices. (didn't Interplay also raise the prices of the Fallout games at some point?)
Not gonna lie. Of all that is on sale, I'm thinking about Descent + Descent 2, Descent 3 + Expansion, MDK, Lionheart, and Messiah. I already own Redneck Rampage Collection, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, and Kingpin: Life of Crime.

I'm interested in some of the others, but I feel I've already staked out a decent set for myself.

inc09nito: What I can say from my personal experience.
Get Giants: Citizen Kabuto - it's fun , original and full of humour.
I second that.
Ok. This time, I'm getting Sacrifice for sure.

And to those still on the fence about it, I will only say this: Tim Curry. And that should be enough, really. :p

Will probably also pick up Earthworm Jim 1+2 and Battle Chess, for nostalgia's sake. :)
Earthworm Jim is a must play.
I own all the games so nothing this time.

When a big deal was made about GOG increasing the price on several of the games(this isn't about that), they made a big deal that they had 4 new Interplay titles coming to GOG. Well, we got Screamer 2 and about 6 months later we got Subwar 2050. It's nearing a year and a half since then so . . . where are the last 2 titles?
