Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Earthworm Jim series, MDK 1&2, Freespace 1&2, Die by the Sword, and more Interplay classics 50% off!

When a conversation between gamers comes down to listing the absolutely essential PC classics one can't simply imagine the gaming world without, inevitably Interplay games come up. Most PC gamers are dedicated Interplay fans, even if unknowingly. Even if by some strange twist of life you don't instantly recognize the label, it's an easy bet that looking at our this week's [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/interplay_weekend_promo_280314]Interplay Irresistibles promo page you'll immediately notice at least two or three titles that will make you excited or nostalgic. The number of unforgettable classics in Interplay's offer here on GOG.com is simply astounding. Today, we bring you all of them with a 50% discount. Let's give our users the chance to talk about some of their favorites!

"My most indelible impression of playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto for the first time all those years ago was of just how FUN it all was. A great sense of humour (British, naturally) coupled with gorgeous graphics, lively characters, a host of play styles and topped off with THE best creature-stomp levels ever presented in gaming."--says our user GTLC in his review of the game.

I have never played a better "sword fighting" game than Die By The Sword. While the controls take a while to get used to, THEY MAKE SENSE! Being able to control your swings, where they go, how fast, being able to do feints, targeted shots, block, ripostes, etc. What other game gives you that type of control?--asks Shnar in his review of the title he calls the Most realistic sword fighting game EVER!

Besides the offbeat humor and the entertaining variety of the gameplay, MDK has one major thing going for it: presentation. This decade-old game holds up rather well thanks to some inspired level design and art direction. The colors really pop out; the game is dark, but isn't afraid to throw in vivid reds and oranges amidst the browns, blacks and grays. The dated graphics inadvertently give an otherworldly quality to the world's architecture. It's true that the assets are blocky, yet manage to be discernible and even look futuristic somehow. There are some seriously awesome textures here that are meant to disorient the player and try to turn genre conventions upside-down. The game is a joy to look at, listen to, and play[...]--says Chad praising the game's "unreal art direction".

That's only a small part of our weekend offer. Head out to our Interplay Irresistibles promo page and grab yourself some of the best games ever made for the PC, 50% off on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Tuesday, April 1, at 3:59AM GMT.

Shaolin_sKunk: Own everything, thanks!

Descent and Freespace were two games I'm glad I discovered. I'm halfway through the first Descent game and halfway through the second Freespace game and they have both been great experiences for me. Shogo's fun if you just want to blow stuff up for a while. VR Soccer is a nostalgia trip for me so I can't judge that one fairly. The MDK games are awesome fun too. Some crappy mini-reviews there for ya.

Jeez-o, I saved ~$180 buying the $30 bundle from the PWYW promo a few years back.
You own them all? I was curious about Invictus and Super Hornet.
I'm probably going to snag Jim just because I've never played it and that's like saying you never played Pac-Man or saw Star Wars.

Invictus has a pretty bad rating, by GOG standards anyway, so I haven't played that one yet. I think I installed Super Hornet once but had trouble figuring out where to start, but that's par course for any given flight sim really.

XD Yeah ditto on flight sims. I think I am eternally stuck waiting for the next Wings Of Fury though Heroes of the Pacific would be a VERY VERY VERY nice addition here.
Nice write up, I really like the incorporation of helpful user reviews! I feel like it engages the community and lends the marketing a heaping scoop of genuine authenticity. A part of me wants to point my finger and cry, "lazy!" but, I am going to choose to ignore that impulse :]

I suppose it's time I pick up Giants: Citizen Kabuto, already. Jeez, I'm such a slacker, right?

zaine-h: I'd love to... but not yet...

zaine-h: Really, the only thing that catches my eye in the promo is Sacrifice. I probably won't be getting it though.

Licurg: Yes you will .
What exactly is it that makes Sacrifice so good? The description and reviews don't seem to explain it too well. I can't even tell what genre the game is ("third person strategy", ok, but turn based or real time? Is it based on a single commander character giving orders, or a top-down view of your army?). Is there a campaign, or is it just skirmish battles? How long does a battle last, and if there is a campaign, are there multiple options/a full strategic map in the style of the total war games?

Incidentally, please don't gift me the game as you did with zaine-h: I have a massive list of games to work through including most of the Fallouts and Infinity Engine games, so won't be able to play it if you do and will just feel guilty about it. Just tell me what the game is, and why it's recommended. Thanks.

F1ach: Would have liked to get Messiah (have the original) in a working condition but looking at the reviews and the game forum its quite the bugfest :(
avatar
tfishell: Good job doing your research. My understanding is, though, that GOG has actually improved the game significantly now that they implemented nGlide into the game.

EDIT: Hmm, well no the gamecard still says only XP and Vista are supported.
Well, having a version that doesn't work makes it necessary to check the game out so I don't swap it for a new version that doesn't work either :)
What I can say from my personal experience.
Get Giants: Citizen Kabuto - it's fun , original and full of humour.
Do NOT buy Messiah - you'll only regret it.

DBTS isn't that bad and actually has some very nice spots, it's just so alien in it's control scheme and even I'll admit that does hurt it, but if you like decapitation, tunnels, and all sorts of mean nasty axe wielding beasties then it's pretty fun.

The short answer is that it is a strategy game that you control your units from the ground perspective "third person strategy", where the ultimate goal is to conquer the world. Reading through the first few reviews does give you an idea of what to expect.

Eventually I would like to get Sacrifice but can’t in this sale as I’ve just blown my entire game budget on the Age of Wonders 3 pre-order... :/
I'm actually glad to see that there isn't anything I just HAVE to have in this weekend's sale. I spent more than I should have at the Pot of Gold promo. ^_^; I Am Alive! is on sale today, and I'm not even sure I can swing that! (Really really really tempted, though!)

It's an Action/RTS game . You control your main unit (Wizard) like in a traditional 3rd-person action game (MDK,etc) and you control your units with your mouse . The game has 5 factions, each with it's own unique units and with it's own campaign, and you can mix it up between them during the campaign, in certain conditions (you'll get a chance to betray the god you're currently working for in favor of a new one, for example). There's no strategic map like in the Total War games . It also has skirmishes, which can last between a few minutes to 1-2 hours, depending on the map you play, number of players, whether you play in a team or not, other things as well .

Also, this game has amazing production values, with the music, voice-acting, etc. Everything is top-notch - Just take a look at who worked on this game :

If you have time, here's a nice video about it:
TotalBiscuit and PressHeart Play Sacrifice <- Contains spoilers, though.
