Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Earthworm Jim series, MDK 1&2, Freespace 1&2, Die by the Sword, and more Interplay classics 50% off!

When a conversation between gamers comes down to listing the absolutely essential PC classics one can't simply imagine the gaming world without, inevitably Interplay games come up. Most PC gamers are dedicated Interplay fans, even if unknowingly. Even if by some strange twist of life you don't instantly recognize the label, it's an easy bet that looking at our this week's [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/interplay_weekend_promo_280314]Interplay Irresistibles promo page you'll immediately notice at least two or three titles that will make you excited or nostalgic. The number of unforgettable classics in Interplay's offer here on GOG.com is simply astounding. Today, we bring you all of them with a 50% discount. Let's give our users the chance to talk about some of their favorites!

"My most indelible impression of playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto for the first time all those years ago was of just how FUN it all was. A great sense of humour (British, naturally) coupled with gorgeous graphics, lively characters, a host of play styles and topped off with THE best creature-stomp levels ever presented in gaming."--says our user GTLC in his review of the game.

I have never played a better "sword fighting" game than Die By The Sword. While the controls take a while to get used to, THEY MAKE SENSE! Being able to control your swings, where they go, how fast, being able to do feints, targeted shots, block, ripostes, etc. What other game gives you that type of control?--asks Shnar in his review of the title he calls the Most realistic sword fighting game EVER!

Besides the offbeat humor and the entertaining variety of the gameplay, MDK has one major thing going for it: presentation. This decade-old game holds up rather well thanks to some inspired level design and art direction. The colors really pop out; the game is dark, but isn't afraid to throw in vivid reds and oranges amidst the browns, blacks and grays. The dated graphics inadvertently give an otherworldly quality to the world's architecture. It's true that the assets are blocky, yet manage to be discernible and even look futuristic somehow. There are some seriously awesome textures here that are meant to disorient the player and try to turn genre conventions upside-down. The game is a joy to look at, listen to, and play[...]--says Chad praising the game's "unreal art direction".

That's only a small part of our weekend offer. Head out to our Interplay Irresistibles promo page and grab yourself some of the best games ever made for the PC, 50% off on GOG.com. The offer lasts until Tuesday, April 1, at 3:59AM GMT.
Hm, Stonekeep or Lionheart, difficult choice. Some opinions?

Niggles: Try 190 and finished none (let alone start - oh wait i did play Aqua Kitty for a while heheh) .Wonder who has the record? :D

Licurg: LOL ? Not even one ??? :/ The hell are buying them for ?
.Not even one. Thats a problem with me. I buy games - retail as well, fiddle with them, then get distracted and never come back to them. I guess im more of a collector than most now... come on.... admit it.... many have a bit of a collecting bug....;)

awalterj: These 50% sales are a bit difficult for me, there aren't really any games that I want at a 50% discount but there are quite a few I'd pick up within seconds if they were discounted at 70%. This sounds like a spoiled thing to say but it's just how my purchase behavior has changed over the decades.
I'm feeling the same thing. 50% off is very nice, but GOG has spoiled us lately with 70% discounts, so now when a game is at 50%, I am somewhat on the fence. It's all your fault GOG! :D
Only a couple of the games really catch my attention, most of them I've already got...

But then I see 'Earthworm Jim 3D' and it looks like a really really bad N64 port. Other games like 'Die by the sword' looks like a bad PS1 port...

A few of these I can't help but wonder why some of the companies don't put in a few hours and update the graphics just a little, improve the models and textures a little, maybe fix any outstanding bugs or bad camera controls, not like the game would be that different.
Great games at a nice price makes for a good promo! Thanks GOG!

I'm glad someone mentioned this. I picked it up despite the shit reviews and I have to say I'M LOVING IT. What puzzles me is that while it's not the greatest game ever and, yes the camera can be a pain, it is certainly no worse than some of the other 3D platformers (Rayman) which get great reviews. I think it looks fantastic, plays fast, and for a change I actually love the music.

Yeah the camera sucks. Get over it and get this game! XD
Already have everything I want from Interplay, and 50% off isn't that irresistible to make me buy up the rest.
The thing about irresistibles is that I didn't resist them the first time they were on sale!

My personal favorites are Giants and MDK2.
I already have Freespace 2, so is there any reason to go back and play Freespace 1?

Also, does anyone know if the hit detection on Shattered Steel has been improved, and if not, how playable is the game?

I know that feeling. I am looking at Stonekeep and Kingdom: The Far Reaches as the only two up there that I wishlisted thinking that they could be interesting. Yet with both my backlog and the fact they are only 50% off (I know, entitlement), I find it almost impossible to justify the idea of buying them.

Oh well, off to play Long live the Queen again.
:)
Although Direct3D gives me black screen and 3Dfx cause lag and fps drop when texts and comment dialogue pop up appears, the software mode itself with All detail and High video mode looks very good in Die by The Sword. ;-)

Btw Extended doesn't work for me but for nostalgia software mode is all I need.

Freespace 1 was a great game, I actually liked it more than Freespace 2.

FS1 had some epic music! Plus some of the missions involving the Shivan's Lucifer warship are particularly memorable. -_^
(imo anyway...)

If you enjoyed playing FS2, FS1 is worth playing and the expansion pack ' Silent Threat' is included with the GOG edition! O_O
(Haven't tried the expansion myself yet so I'm not sure what it'll be like...)

Thanks for the reply, I'll give it a try in that case.

I mostly hesitate because the discounted prices are equal to the former retail prices of these games on GOG.
It doesn't really feel like a sale when Interplay has already doubled the prices.

However, the question remains as to whether or not these games will ever be discounted more than 50%...

I decided to buy Battle Chess, seems OK though I suck at the game. Does anyone know what the difference between "regular" Chess and Chinese Chess is?
