Miasmata, the Geneforge Saga, Hotline Miami, and more up to 85% off!

grimwerk: Can someone please explain that clock that appears in several of the DROD screenshots here on GOG? If it's something like a move counter, great. But if it is a timer (as in how fast can you complete this level?) it'd spoil the game for me.
Don't worry, there's no time limit in the game. It is in fact a move counter that is very much needed, because some of the creatures spawn or breed after a certain number of moves.

Elinnea: I have the remake of Avernum: Escape from the Pit elsewhere, but I haven't played it yet. Is there a reason to get the original version here as well? Other than supporting the developer I mean, a noble goal to be sure.
The GOG version includes seven games: The six Avernum adventures and a collection of shorter stories called Blades of Avernum. The remake you own is simply the first of those six adventures remade.

I really enjoyed the Avernums and the Geneforges. And Spiderweb's site has a demo for every damn one of them, and each of those demos is several hours long.

I think its really good for adventure noobs. The puzzles are pretty easy and if memory serves, its a one button clicking game (like you just use everything, you don't have to look at, touch, taste, talk to, etc) which I found simplified it a little.

Darilon: Pretty interested in Avernum and Geneforge. Anybody recommend one over the other? They are both cheap but seem to have enough content that by the time I finish one, the other will probably be on sale again.

pi4t: They have noticeably similar gameplay, from what I've seen (which admittedly isn't that much: I've played Geneforge 1, part of Geneforge 2 and the Avernum 1 remake, and read more on the forums). Geneforge has a...slightly more sci-fi element (though it's definitely still fantasy) and you play a single character in each game who literally makes his party around him. Quite an interesting mechanic, as the more effort you spend on your party members, the lower your maximum mana will be. Avernum involves making a more conventional group of heroes.

ShadowWulfe: Geneforge has more moral dilemmas. Avernum focuses on the action.

Both will likely challenge your tactics strats. Geneforge party is a bit smaller than Avernum party, so less micromanagement (sort of).

One can't possibly recommend Machinarium enough.

As for noobs, it's probably OK mostly. Puzzles are logical and the interface is easy to use.
There are one or two puzzles which may be annnoying, even for more experienced adventurers, but you don't have any pixel hunting, "magically" appearing items, talk to person A five times, etc. kind of puzzles, which might be a bit difficult for noobs usually.

Crosmando: Man why isn't the Papers Please game on sale, I've had that one on my list for ages waiting for a steep discount.
Because (like Banished) it's not just another <genre> game and the developer reaps the people interested in buying and doesn't lose that much money with his discounts (if I remember correct, it was once 33% off). Developers like these are in my humble opinion the ones which survive market struggles/bubbles.

Nice Promo! I already have most of the games on Steam but might pick up the 3 games from this promo i don't have yet.

On a side note i have exactly 200 games on GOG now and with that there aren't too many games i must have on GOG left. Time to finally play more games and stop buying games i'm only halfway interested in. :D

Oh, I didn't realize this, thanks for the tip. I love Geneforge, so I'm confident I will enjoy the Avernums too.

LOL Impaler, I'll be at 200 or 201 too!
Depends if I'll buy both Machinarium and Unmechanical (any opinion on this?)

Hmmm, I don't have many of these indie titles. I really enjoyed Hotline Miami.

However, if I had to pick one, Real Texas looks the most interesting out the bunch.
