Pid, Strike Suit Zero, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Trine, La Mulana, and more indie titles 60% off!

In the golden age of classic PC gaming there was very little limit to developers creativity when it came to action games. Each new title could introduce new ideas, gameplay models, technical advancements, and aesthetic choices. Nowadays the progress slowed down almost to a full stop, and the diversity toned down by far. New action games developed by large studios follow same patterns and rarely experiment with their identity. Even the best and most elaborate titles rarely divert from the popular choices. Are we really doomed to buy the same games over, and over again? Indies to the rescue! Modern independent developers present the same amount of sheer unlimited creativity as their predecessors in the 1980s and 1990s. Even when drawing from the classics, their games present the same enthusiasm and imagination as the titles many of us grew up with. That's why today, we're proud to present you with our Indie Action promo. You can get 12 indie titles, each of them original and fresh in its own way, with a 60% off discount!

There's , a gorgeous, original platforming adventure telling a story of a little boy stranded on a mysterious planet, for only $3.99. Or, if you like some physics-based puzzles in your platformers, for the same price you can grab Trine, a game following the fantastic voyage of three likeable characters, each with a special set of abilities. Or perhaps you like your games with a bit of punishing difficulty? Well then, be sure to check out La Mulana, a challenging old-school free-form platformer that lets you explore mysterious ancient Mayan ruins.

Say, maybe you're missing the excitement of deep space combat? Don't miss your chance to take the steers of Strike Suit Zero, for only $7.99. In this action packed, visually stunning revival of space combat sim genre, with many new ideas, you'll pilot a craft capable of transforming into a giant robot to take on swarms of enemies with unsurpassed maneuverability and firepower. Too serious for your taste? No problem! For only $3.99 you can take the fight somewhere completely different in Symphony. In this music-driven vertical shoot-em-up full of eye-candy, and packed with a dynamic electro-soundtrack, you will defend your very own music collection from a strange virtual entity that threatens to corrupt your hard drive.

JudasIscariot: Have you ever played SHMUPS like Gradius or R-Type? If you have, it's kind of like that with enemies coming in waves and in a particular pattern. The only difference is that the kind of song you have playing dictates enemy density and how fast they come at you. It's not hard core like say a bullet hell shooter like Touhou is :D
I see. No, I haven't. I don't play SHMUPS. I managed to finish only the combat sequences in Jade Empire grinding my teeth (the last flight!) but the idea of gaming tied to music is intriguing. Non-Touhou difficulty is definitely plus :).
Hmm, this could serve well as a filler for pauses at work... Decisions, decisions. Thanks for replying, Judas.

Well, here you can unlock permanent upgrades, have more than one weapon AND adjust the angle it fires, you can just autofire by pressing on the proper mouse button (IIRC..been a while since I played it...), and you can repair your ship on the fly as you play a level just by collecting musical notes.

Also, all you need is a mouse for this game :D
In some circles Indie Action = Amateur Porn

In all honesty I'm kind of depressed that this thread was referring to games. :D

JudasIscariot: We just had Tzar! Don't tell me you blazed through that already? :D
Not yet, but my hunger is infinite! :P
avatar
Ghorpm: Judas, please! "dokładnie" in this context is a calque. You shouldn't use it like that :) I know that wikipedia is not the most trustworthy site but at least this article is pretty decent: http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglicyzm
avatar
JudasIscariot: Dude, 20+ years of using English structure is not just going to go away overnight, even though I try much to my and other Poles' detriment :D
You are provoking me yet again ;) Quite recently I had a discussion with my friends whether the aforementioned calque originates from English "exactly" or German "genau" and I think it might be the latter. But ok, ok I'll take my purism elsewhere ;)

On a side note, when you are watching an amateur porn you should keep in mind that most of the time the video is uploaded without the consent of at least one partner and in some cases you are clearly watching a rape in action, because the chick is obviously high or drunk sensless or both.

Aha. So this must be you.

Redfoxe: You really like indies dont you GoG ;).
avatar
JudasIscariot: Not speaking for everyone at GOG as this is something subjective, but I like a lot of indies due to the fact that they remind me of a time when games focused on fun and interesting ideas. Also, remember the Ultima series could be considered "indie" back when Richard Garriot was selling diskettes in ziplock baggies :D
Didnt know that.
Learn something everyday :D

I am stuck on the red balloon boss. Will I ever get past it?

SpikedCereal: Indies is the only thing GOG likes, apparently GOG hates AAA titles, you know, the games people want to see here the most
Speak for thee and not for we
I'll probably get 99 Levels to Hell this time as I passed on it when it came out.

avatar
timppu: GOG could rectify the situation by releasing Trine 2, then I'd have something more to buy. And while you are at it, Torchlight 2 and Sacred 2 Gold would be nice too.
Trine 2 DRM Free is like a Sasquatch sighting at this point. At least Sacred 2 Gold is sold DRM Free on Gamersgate and Torchlight 2 has the direct from Runic Games version.

If you don't like the amount of "AAA" games on GOG, contact the publishers and tell them you want to see their games on GOG. GOG can only release stuff from companies willing to work with them.
avatar
timppu: Does anyone have a good opinion if 99 levels to Hell is better to play with a gamepad, or kb+mouse?

I just can't make up my mind about it. The gamepad seems otherwise more suitable for the game, but aiming with the mouse again gives an edge to mouse, even though it is mostly a 2D platformer game.
avatar
JudasIscariot: If I may
Of course you may, it is your forum! :) Ok, maybe I'll also use kb+mouse with it. There was something that still made it feel very natural with the keyboard, I was suspecting the game originated in Xbox360 (like many indie games apparently do).

Yeah I guess there is no DRM-free Trine 2 yet, but is there specifically something preventing it to be, at least at some point? Considering the first game is also (which I take as an indication that at least the developer is not against it being DRM-free)? Does it have multiplayer as an integral part of the game without which it is worthless, etc.?

Naturally it would mean losing achievement, cards, blue coins, cloud saves, autopatches and free LSD trips to everyone, but I think the game could be played even without them.

Some say that Steamworks DRM is near impossible to strip away from a game, yet we do have Brutal Legend and Alan Wake without it.

The Mac and Linux versions had working multiplayer between each other for the initial releases, so they have MP code there to at least let non steam versions play each other. It was taken out when they put steamworks into both versions. For a Windows DRM free release, they have been saying it is coming soon for a year now with no actual release either here or at the humble store.

Any DRM except stuff that relies on a server to run can be stripped away. (And in some cases, it still can then.) Cracked versions of steam games appear online the same day they come out. Multiplayer usually doesn't work unless there is a LAN mode, but the actual game itself will still run.
