Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam 1st,2nd, Unreal games, Blood series, and other action-packed shooters 50% off

This weekend we thought we might throw a [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/fps_weekend_promo_240513]FPS Flashbomb your way. Don't worry--we do that with no intention of injuring you. It's all fun and games after all. Shooting virtual guns at digital living things (and on-screen mechanical foes) is satisfying and entertaining. That's a fact no one can ignore. That's why the First Person-perspective Shooter genre (commonly abbreviated as FPS) has been popular ever since it began, and it looks like it's not going to lose its charm to gamers in the foreseeable future. With fast and action-filled gameplay these games offer, every second of talk is a second wasted, so let's get fraggin'!

So what's in the FPS Flashbomb, you might ask? There's a nice piece of the genre's history in the form of Catacombs Pack if you want too see how it all began. Then, witness how it evolved and got really bad-ass with Duke Nukem 3D Complete Edition, and how it kept on throwing one-liners with Serious Sam: The First Encounter and The Second Encounter. Witness how immersive things got with Unreal Gold, and how competitive the genre has become with Unreal Tournament 2004 ECE. Or maybe you just want to have some gory and politically incorrect fun? We've got you covered Shadow Warrior is here as well.

Enough talk, let's shoot somethin! Head out to the promo page, to see all of the great FPS games we offer 50% off until Tuesday, May 28 at 3:59AM GMT.

tinyE: Someone sell me on Unreal. I was always under the impression is was 90% MP but all of a sudden I'm not so sure. For sure if it is mostly MP than I'm not interested but I'd like to hear about it from some of the fine folks in here that have actually played it. In addition if there are any other FPS you can compare these too I'd be grateful.

Thanks! :D
Unreal is primarily single player. Unreal Tournament is multiplayer (with very decent bots, so extremely enjoyable even when playing alone) and so is UT 2004. Unreal Tournament was a direct competitor of Quake III Arena (most notably it has more and better team play modes than original Q3A). However if you don't like that kind of gameplay and prefer a game with a story to play trough and levels to finish, Unreal Gold is just a game for you.
Damn, have all these in one form or another except Blood 2, Catacombs, and Sniper Elite - and not interested in those.

Was hoping for Undying...
Hmm, time to get Dredd vs Death and Unreal 2 then, I guess? Wait. Three games? What more don't I... Catacombs? Never heard of it, what the hell is that? When did it arrive?

I read that it was before Doom and almost those first shooters.. I like the Hexen look of stuff.. but seems so EGA.

And Judge Dredd.. Is that some sidescroller? =)

Edit: I read those sentences here so there prob isn't any truth to that. ^^

Catacombs was developed and programmed by Carmack, Romero and Hall. Kinda surprise not a lot of buzz around here considering the pedigree of these three individual.

All things considered, those games have aged quite well, I completed them for the first time this year and they've become a new favorite of mine. I definitely recommend them.
Awesome, finally an occasion to grab Catacomb. :)
The FPS bomb seems well timed with The Game Music Bundle selling the Duke Nukem soundtracks (and remix album) and complete Shadow Warrior among other ones.

Aningan: I guess this translates to "confirmed on GOG!!!" :))

G-Doc: If only it was that simple :-)
Small steps then. While you are at it, please try to get the other Serious Sam games on GOG.

Just added the venerable grandgrandfather FPS Catacombs to my GOG shelf (and digital backups of Unreal Gold and 2)
16 bucks lighter, let's see what this whole Riddick thing is about.

G-Doc: You're 100% correct--this could be very misleading. It was only to save some precious space. You think 1st and 2nd are more clear?

timppu: You get my approval now. Even better if you actually released Serious Sam 2. :)

(albeit I recall playing some demo version a long time ago, and for some reason not liking it as much as the 1st/2nd Encounter games...)
SS2 is not as good as those games, it isn't just the demo.
Ooh. Definitely picking up Catacombs. Off the wishlist you go! ;) Seeing how much I enjoy ye olde Blake Stone games I should totally love this. There's something to be said about the simplicity of old-school FPSs.

Kind of tempted to finally get Judge Dredd. It may not have the reputation as super shooter of the decade, but I could imagine it should be quite enjoyable for when I'm in the mood for some mindless blasting.

Lastly, I'm looking at Blood 2 and Riddick... mainly because of the Atari thing and the possibility of losing a bunch of their games, yet I'm not really all that sold on either. Knowing myself I probably shouldn't buy them seeing how in the past during such situations I bought games I've barely played due to lack of real interest or I didn't enjoy them all that much. Any thoughts?

Tarhiel: WHAAAT? How come I do not know about this? Oh, my goodness, you, sir, just made my day! :P
Gotta look for the trailer :)
avatar
G-Doc: Yup, and it's being developed in Poland, Warsaw too. A friend of mine does writing for that game :-) Plus it's going to be published by Devolver Digital, the same company that published Hotline Miami. How cool is that.
Trailer looks amazing and I really can´t wait for it. On a side note, since it´s being developed by Flying Wild Hog, I hope Hard Reset:Extended Edition will end up eventually on GOG as well :)
Actually, I am patiently waiting for it for quite some time ;)

You know that writing things like this could easily be misinterpreted as blasphemy here, right? I nearly got a heart attack, before I realized you were talking about Serious Sam! ;)
