Commandos series, Creatures series, Constructor, Imperial Glory, Mob Rule, and Praetorians 60% off!

With the releases of [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/cultures_12]Cultures 1+2, Imperialism 2: The Age of Exploration, and King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY this has been a particularly strategy-focused week on GOG.com, so why not continue on that note with our weekend promo. We present you 9 great Digital Game Factory titles 60% off! Let's see what you could be doing this weekend, shall we?

In Commandos Ammo Pack and Commandos 2+3, the great tactical RTS series, you can assume the role of the commander of a WWII special ops unit. Be careful, though--that's not an easy task, by any means.

In and its sequel, [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/mob_rule]Mob Rule you can become a made man, or even the Don, and organize crime in any way you can imagine. The city is your oyster, so get the lime and begin your feast!

And in case you're a little less strategically inclined, but you'd still like to emerge yourself in a game that requires quite a lot of careful planning and the ability to exercise authority, you can try to help some furry alien artificial life forms to evolve and become more intelligent in Creatures Village, Creatures: The Albian Years, and Creatures: Exodus.

But that's not nearly all you can do in the games we're offering you 60% off this weekend. Why don't you go to the promo page and see what other interesting activities cooked up by Digital Game Factory await you.

Below, you'll find this year's first episode of This Week on GOG, a short video guide to recent events, promos, and other happenings on the site. By the way, if you haven't already, you might want to follow the GOG.com channel on Youtube, so you won't miss our shows, specials, and exclusive trailers.

Have a nice weekend!

dirtyharry50: I did send in a support ticket. I'll report back (perhaps start a thread then) on the outcome.

What bugs me is the disappearing act without a word. It was left to me to discover this. This game was among the first 50 released with the announcement of Mac support. The game page had indicated Mac support in the past. I did have a Mac installer before which unfortunately, I did not yet download since I trusted GOG to keep my files available to me. It seems I may have made a mistake there but we'll see.
I think that only happened when some legal issues came out. I remember they removed some soundtracks without notice, because of legal reasons.

Yeah. I imagine there is some explanation for it. I have requested that and will wait and see what it is.
Im looking to buy 1 of the creatures games.
If you can pick up one of the 3 - which one would you recommend? What are like the key differences?

Well, definitely not Village which is some spinoff meant for kids. For the true Creatures experience you'd have to go for one of the others. Personally I'd suggest picking up The Albian Years since that's the original two games while Exodus contains the last ones. I can't say which one is the best though since I've only played Creatures 1 and taken only a quick look at Creatures 2 ages ago.
Would it be possible to add subtitles to those movies?

Creatures 3+ I find more fun - it has a lot more gadgets and things to play with. Creatures 1 is probably the best a-life sim out of all of them. I think they toned down some of the simulation in later versions to make it a bit easier to understand and control.

The guy who invented it, Steve Grand, was definitely more into the science of AI than the game use of it. His book "Creation: Life and How to make it" heavily discusses what went into the project. I think I had more fun reading the book than playing the game, although the games are cute and definitely have their charms.

Agreed. I own that and played it practically non-stop for weeks after I bought it. A huge amount of gameplay with the two games, and incredibly fun.

Be warned though, you do get addicted to trying to stop your little guys from dying :)

dirtyharry50: No, the game card has been changed to remove reference to OS X support.
No, my copy of FTL now shows both Windows and Mac versions again. The game card shows both Windows and OS X versions required to play.

You missed what I was replying to directly above my reply where htown1980 said:

"assume the game card for imperial glory doesn't refer to the Mac version anymore... "

and to that I replied the game card has been changed, etc. because for THAT game, "Imperial Glory" it HAS been changed.

Ugh...what button....?

You have to click the CC button to enable subtitles for an individual video.

If you have an account at YouTube, you can open your playback settings and configure captions to always be on (when any are available). You may prefer this over having to do it manually for each video (especially since most videos don't have subtitles, except those horrible and nigh useless ones generated from speech recognition, which are distinct from these "manual" subtitles).
