Commandos series, Creatures series, Constructor, Imperial Glory, Mob Rule, and Praetorians 60% off!

With the releases of [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/cultures_12]Cultures 1+2, Imperialism 2: The Age of Exploration, and King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY this has been a particularly strategy-focused week on GOG.com, so why not continue on that note with our weekend promo. We present you 9 great Digital Game Factory titles 60% off! Let's see what you could be doing this weekend, shall we?

In Commandos Ammo Pack and Commandos 2+3, the great tactical RTS series, you can assume the role of the commander of a WWII special ops unit. Be careful, though--that's not an easy task, by any means.

In and its sequel, [url=http://www.gog.com/gamecard/mob_rule]Mob Rule you can become a made man, or even the Don, and organize crime in any way you can imagine. The city is your oyster, so get the lime and begin your feast!

And in case you're a little less strategically inclined, but you'd still like to emerge yourself in a game that requires quite a lot of careful planning and the ability to exercise authority, you can try to help some furry alien artificial life forms to evolve and become more intelligent in Creatures Village, Creatures: The Albian Years, and Creatures: Exodus.

But that's not nearly all you can do in the games we're offering you 60% off this weekend. Why don't you go to the promo page and see what other interesting activities cooked up by Digital Game Factory await you.

Below, you'll find this year's first episode of This Week on GOG, a short video guide to recent events, promos, and other happenings on the site. By the way, if you haven't already, you might want to follow the GOG.com channel on Youtube, so you won't miss our shows, specials, and exclusive trailers.

Have a nice weekend!

Deathtrap Dungeon!

ShadowWulfe: Deathtrap Dungeon!
they plan "special 500th game release", and Deathtrap Dungeon isn't really a game that could fit into that description. Only 60 votes on the wishlist.

Maybe it's special like some kids in sports. This is a kind of game that is always picked last

grviper: Actually a VGA release of LSL is supposed to be coming for the last Groupees bundle buyers. It's still "(coming soon)" however.

gibbeynator: Isn't that the remake? I'm talking about the original, Sierra developed games. Codemasters owns the IP rights, but maybe/maybe not the actual, original games.
Nope, that's not the remake but the old version updated to work on newer systems (= I presume prepared by GOG).

PaterAlf: Ok, what to buy now? Commandos 2+3 and Constructor or King's Bounty: Crossworlds?
avatar
jpolastre: Depends on how much you like turn-based RPGs.
My personal choice would be Commandos and Constructor, hands down. I've spent countless hours having fun with both series. It's an awesome feeling when you open up the minimap and you see you cleared half the map using just your Green Beret soldier, you feel like you don't need more than your 6 soldiers to invade Berlin and win the war.

I also am not one for TBS while I enjoy RTS a lot more. But YMMV.
Thank you for your advice, but I finally decided to buy King's Bounty: Crossworlds. Commandos 1 is still unplayed in my backlog and I saw that I also have Commandos 2 lying around as a retail version (the same for Constructor). On the other hand I completed KB: The Legend some months ago and really enjoyed it, which makes KB: Crossworlds the far more obvious choice to buy at the moment.

System Shock 2!!!

dirtyharry50: Imperial Glory no longer has a Mac version (the Feral port)???

Where did this go? More importantly, where the hell is the Mac installer I paid for? I checked my game shelf and notice only the Windows installer there. I bought it specifically because of the Mac port being available when I made the purchase.

I happened to notice this just now as it is one of the games on sale and it only had the windows logo next to it. So I checked the store page and noticed no mention of Mac. So.... I went to my shelf and found my Mac installer not there to download now, just disappeared.

Not cool.

Once I buy a game here, Mac or Windows, etc. I do not expect it to disappear from my shelf at some future time.
If you haven't already received a response from gog, can I ask that you make a separate thread about his. I am very interested to hear gog's response. Unless its a temporary mistake, i would have thought you are entitled to a refund.

Yeah, in your case there's not much to think about. Just don't keep those games unplayed forever. They're very easy to fall in love with, and deliver plenty of fun despite their eventual flaws. (Except for Mob Rules that I can't exactly say why, but it doesn't feel as fun as Constructor1)
I did send in a support ticket. I'll report back (perhaps start a thread then) on the outcome.

What bugs me is the disappearing act without a word. It was left to me to discover this. This game was among the first 50 released with the announcement of Mac support. The game page had indicated Mac support in the past. I did have a Mac installer before which unfortunately, I did not yet download since I trusted GOG to keep my files available to me. It seems I may have made a mistake there but we'll see.

The Mac version of FTL disappeared for a bit but then came back. Vthe game was always listed as having a Mac and windows version however. I assume the game card for imperial glory doesn't refer to the Mac version anymore...

Technically, all editions of LSL1 are enhanced remakes.

In the early 80s, a guy named Chuck Benson created Softporn Adventure for the Apple II. This was a text-only adventure game ever published by Sierra (or On-Line Systems, as they were called at the time), and the only text-only game they ever released. It was a huge success, selling 25,000 copies at a time where only 100,000 systems existed (and that's not even counting all of the piracy!). Today, it is probably best remembered for its cover featuring three naked women in a hot tub, and yes, that is indeed Roberta Williams on the right.

In 1986, Sierra started working on an AGI remake of Softporn and in 1987, Larry was unleashed unto the world. This was the EGA AGI release, followed 4 years later by an enhanced VGA remake in the SCI engine. The Replay Games version is yet another enhanced remake, this time with more content than the previous LSL1 versions.

In other words, the upcoming Larry game is an enhanced remake of an enhanced remake of an enhanced remake of Softporn, and I'm pretty sure that has to be some kind of record.

No, the game card has been changed to remove reference to OS X support.
Could not quite stretch the gaming budget to pick up the Commando series when they were 50% off during the big sale. They were the very final games I reluctantly removed from my basket before checkout. Here we are in the new year, and CHA-CHING commando series is now 60% off. a whole extra 10% in mah pocket!

It is almost like GOG knew!

Nah, just google the list of all of the Dragon's Lair re-releases.
